We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Thanks
Thankyou for responding to "double agent"--that person should look up the word WARNING.  When we warn people, we tell them to beware of people like the "double agent", who was so defensive in the response.
and people who give their e-mail address and ask for a private response on a public site
and people who refuse to read the hard work and detailed info that we all provide and want a simple solution after waiting a whole year to complain like Deb who gave her e-mail address.

    Spread the word a.s.a.p.
It is more urgent than ever for us to reach as many people as possible.
I think it's time to start printing copies of the best letters and hand them to scammed people.
Ever since I found this site, I have worried about when they are going to try to wipe it out, one way or another.
It's very frustrating that so many people make complaints but they don't follow-up and check back in with updates.
It's really sad that there are people trying to abuse this site, calling people stupid and simple minded for getting scammed.  Most people are supportive, though.

There are alot of unbelievable people defending DB on the
    CBC MARKETPLACE INVESTIGATION
THE PRICE CUT PROMISE - VIDEO that you can still watch, below it there are over 100 comments, most of them are defending DB, and criticizing CBC for not defending DB.  They like to call people stupid just like "Double agent"
and I notice a strong pattern of DB defenders.

The worst part is that CBC did not offer a single solutions for the poor people who got scammed.  The report was done in Ontario and they didn't even mention the CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT or THE CONSUMER PROTECTION BRANCH, at least it is mentioned several times on this site.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IS YOU THINK THAT SOMEONE IS ABUSING THE SITE IN ANY WAY, YOU MAY REPORT THEM BY CLICKING ON THE RED SYMBOL  TO THE RIGHT OF THE REPLY  BUTTON.
THIS IS NOT A "WARNING" this is just a fact of information.

My letters are no longer on line?  My letters above are right in front of your face and if you read them you would know that all the info is right there.  We don't e-mail people on this  site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You would also know that you do not have to prove fraud, I didn't.

    Hi Everyone
Please check out the comments from "double agent" on May 3rd and May 5th and let me know what you think, if you care to.  It sure sounds like some kind of threat to me, when someone uses a position of power to WARN  someone to watch what they say.  This person tries to redeem the comments by saying that DB is reading the comments.  I think that would be obvious to everyone, that ANYONE CAN READ THESE COMMENTS.  They can also speak freely and tell me straight out, if I did something wrong or right.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your support.
I still see the ads on t.v. 25 times a day and it still makes my blood boil.
I even know someone who is part of the advertising end of the commercial and I cannot fault that person in any way because it is just an advertising contract and I cannot blame this person for making a living because it is a totally separate issue.
But when we get through to the owners and directors, this is the only way that we can get the message out successfully.
Good Luck Everyone.   Don't give up no matter what DB does or says.

    HI Kathie
That's an easy one, just google "British Columbia consumer protection act"
Click on: Table of Contents  -Business practice and        "      "    "
Takes you to the act-  DB is operating contrary to the act by  usng Deceptive Practices- Part 2 of the act
Use the letter writing tips that I have provided and tell them that you want a rescission based on the way that you have been misinformed.
Good luck.  It will take patience and hard work on your part but it's worth it.  Any questions, please ask.

    We will not be bullied!
I am also sure that DirectBuy is monitoring all of these complaint websites. I would do the same if I were in their position. However, if they were honest business people, they would take all of the information and strive to improve their services so that people don't have anything to complain about instead of trying to threaten people from voicing their opinions.

I was dismayed by the comments on the Marketplace site. It sounds like there was a mass email to all DB franchise owners & employees to write positive comments on the site. Everytime I see a DB ad, it makes me cringe. I noticed they changed their strategy in the US because the 1/2 hour long infomercials have been replaced by commercials with "real members" talking about how much they saved.

Does anyone know what's going on with the class action lawsuit? I was able to get my money back and can't join the class but wanted to make sure that others get their money back as well. None of us can afford to throw away money or spend $5000 on a couple of cups of DB coffee. Thanks Trudy for your information and for taking the time to help others. I didn't see this site until after all was said and done, otherwise, your information would have been very helpful.

I'll do whatever it takes to warn other people as I have gone on to other sites to share my DB story. Sounds like Double-Agent is MIA.......perhaps DB's Legal Department is on to him!

    Trudy-
In response to your comments about Double Agent....I can't agree more. It's interesting how that person was so vocal about "warning" us (but didn't tell us why) and seems to have disappeared from this site altogether. Such jr. high school drama! It's sad how people can't act like adults. We will continue doing what we do as we follow the Golden Rule.

Hi to "we will not be bullied"
I am so happy that you got your money back.  We don't hear that often enough so I'm really glad that you shared this.

PLEASE BEWARE OF OTHER LETTERS ON THIS FILE, WHO ARE ASKING FOR A PRIVATE RESPONSE TO THEIR E-MAIL ADDRESS.
I have been targeted 3 times on this site.
The people are   Debbie - 16 April 09
                    Susan  - 16 April 09
                    Y      - 22 April 09
Someone will probably try this with you but it is a trick to get you to give up your personal info,
because this is the only site that does not require an e-mail address.

I have also been WARNED by "double agent" to watch what I say.
These people may be the same person or a group of people working together,
and they really make me angry.
So just ignore them and keep on referring people as soon as you can. Thanks

    Hi Kathie
I have a website for you and you do not have to sign in to view the site.
I suggest to only contact them by telephone and keep your personal info to yourself.

    Hi Amy
You sound upset about it and if you read through all the nightmares that we have went through, you would realize that you are one of the luckiest people on earth. You have been excused from the hell that we call DB.

    HEY "DOUBLE AGENT"
Where did you disappear to?  Oh well, we prefer constructive comments, anyway.  Did you ever consider that whoever owns this site or someone from DB might know who you are and might be monitering you?  You are really defensive, but if you have something helpful to say, please do so.

You really deserve to be reprimanded for your unethical conduct, I'm pretty sure that someone will treat you worse than you treat others, what comes around goes around.
Does anybody know the intern who can't write, read, spell, proofread and doesn't have any grammer skills... you know, that spoiled disrespectful brat whose just getting by, with his grades...
You're not too hard to figure out.

    From Y...
Sorry for asking for a response directly. I also posted "Msg for anyone who has been succesfull". I was so desperate at the time for information when I asked for a direct response, I didn't think how it could come across to those helping and providing info.  Again, my apologies. I almost caved when I kept getting calls from DB to discuss my situation but I stayed firm as Trudy advised.  The site has been invaluable to me and I hope to get a positive resolution soon.

    Trudy
Thanks for understanding why I am so vocal about respecting everyone's privacy.  I appreciate the apology.
I really hope that you get your money back.

IF they still insist on talking, just keep sending them another fax stating that "In response to your telephone call on ___________ at ___(time), I am reminding you to please respond ONLY in writing"
Don't argue in your response because it gives them ammunition to keep fighting you.
Remind them that they offered to co-operate by e-mail so there should be no problem to send a letter.  You could also state that if they have time to call, then they obviously have time to write.

If you send them a fax every time that they call they will get really annoyed and just might co-operate.  Let them know that you are keeping track of every single time that they call and even if you get their number on your caller i.d., mention the dates and the times, as well.
REMEMBER that you need accurate records in case you need to further your complaint.
    Any questions, please ask.
    Good Luck.

Direct buy need more exposure on the local news stations,

probably tough to get any consumer  advocates to  expose them, as  most stations  put  advertising revnue  above   morals.

( just look at all the crap that is being pushed on late nite tv, that is all useless)

still,   we all need to  keep bugging our local stations to do a real story on   db
