We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Trudy-
YES! I love what you said!! We need to get you on TV! Forget those consumer advocates.....they only go against those their TV stations will "approve" Which means, they are afraid of losing advertising $$. They know who pays them in the end. Yes, I like the idea of testing judges for senility! That would prove why our justice system is so jacked-up! Who is watching and monitoring these people, anyway? More people who are too afraid to speak up! We will not be silent about DB! We will fight to the end! Thanks for being a friend.......you continue to do fabulous work. Let's keep warning people to stay away!

Another thing that I have gathered from the 120 pages is that Trudy spews venom under a different nick when someone does not agree with her/him or challenges, or does not heap praise on his/her advice.

Trudy is the nick "WHO HELPS??????????????????????" and all the other nicks in the 120+ pages that rant when his/her advice is challenged or criticized.

All the name calling against the company and the people who run the clubs, which is deserved, all of Trudy's name calling and rants against the company only leads one to believe that Trudy has not received the refund of his/her membership monies and has not received a cancellation of the membership. Calm down Trudy.

Directbuy is on its way out. There have been approx the same number of clubs for many years with some states and Canadian provinces having none where there was at one time a club or clubs. The clubs that are in existence have been so for many years and the owners have already made their money so it matters not to them if they close their doors. With new membership in obvious decline due to sites like this and tv news program slams, multiple closures will probably be soon.

Existing clubs are making enough money from members purchases, when they claim not to make money from members purchases of goods, clubs are making enough money to keep the bills paid, abet barely.

If all clubs close all head office has to do is keep the purchasing website running to keep from running afoul of the law.

After sending certified letters asking to cancel I was finally offered the option of cancelling my membership if I was willing to pay a fee (quite a large fee). Does anyone know what (% of the membership fee) is a reasonable cancellation fee? or should I look at all other options including legal options to get a full refund? It has been a month since I got my membership that has been paid in full.  I have not been able to use my membership at all and would like to consider this option.  Has anyone cancelled with a cancellation fee?

    HI SARA
DUE to the fact that you have pre-paid over $5,000.00 for a membership that you have no intention of using,
they are making  interest, by having your money in their bank,
so it is an added insult to you, for db to want to charge you even more money
Send a fax, repeat back to db, what they are offering you,
then explain why it is wrong
-they are admitting that they are willing to break the contract,
& THERE IS no mention of a fee, within the contract

    5-34. CONTRACT CANCELLATIONS
A contract for consumer services or goods may not be described as "non-cancelable" or "not subject to cancellation." Such terms may be used with a statement of a fee or penalty for cancellation, for example: "This contract is not cancelable unless you pay a cancellation fee of $5."

    Other questions, please ask

you are expecting a refund in full, in order to prevent futher action vs. them (don't add details)

    Right Jack!!
db is going down because of sites like this,
WHO TELL THE TRUTH & HELP OTHERS
but you contradict your statements & TRY to say that
db can escape the law no matter what they do,
by closing their doors & KEEPING A PURCHASING WEBSITE

DON'T KID YOURSELF, BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT FOOLING US WITH YOUR DOUBLE-TALK
sO KEEP TRYING TO CONVINCE YOURSELF,,,,,,CAUSE YOU KNOW WAY TO MUCH ABOUT CORPORATE CRAP!!!

sara, excuse Trudy for not understanding your question, if your directbuy club is offering you an out and is willing to refund your membership fee minus a "cancellation fee" get what you can back from them just to be rid of them, seems like you may have them on the run a bit, perhaps you have told them you will be complaining in a large way and want you out to keep you quiet. Trudy is thinking they want more money other than what you have paid, how screwed up is that way of thinking.

db steals your money, makes profit from it while it is in their bank,
& demands that you let them keep some of your money,
IS INDIRECTLY CHARGING YOU MORE, because they have not provided any service for the "fee" that they want to charge
but they still demand to be "paid" for providing no services,

I have made several attempts to resolve the matter of my non-participation with Direct Buy.  I cancelled with Direct Buy in Manhattan NY THE NEXT DAY.  This was because I found out that my time at my job was ending and hence my financial status was uncertain and subject to change. At the time I was not aware of the 3 day cancellation period of which during my briefing I was not told about it.  However instinctively I called ASAP (THE NEXT DAY) and made cancellation arrangements.  “My telephone records could be subpoena at any time – for legal purposes if need be.” However I got the run around for 3 weeks - while I constantly called them about cancellation.  I eventually got a bill from Beta Finance - i was shocked because I called the next day and cancelled. I called Beta Finance and was told only Direct Buy can cancell the billing.  What Should I do?

I was in my legal right when I cancelled the next day because they do have a 3 day cancellation.       - I AM READY TO GO TO COURT - after doing my research I found out that Direct Buy has been dishonest and underhanded with their consumers and this is not the first time they have done this to their perspective clients.  PLEASE IF THERE IS A PETITION TO BE SIGNED I WOULD LIKE TO SIGN UP - IF THERE IS A COURT CASE I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO TESTIFY -  FED UP WITH DIRECT BUY - SHAME ON THEM

    HI See...
I HAVE JUST answered NEW YORK, over the last few pages

if you want to go to court, they want written proof
A REGISTERED LETTER, within the 3 day cooling-off period
COURT ALWAYS SAYS, CONTACT  the CO. 1st,,,
    proof in writing.......
    =so registered mail now,

...but you made the mistake that I have begged people not to do

DO NOT TALK TO DB ,2ND=DO NOT TALK ... DO NOT TALK TO DB
THEN when you are finished NOT TALKING to DB, again do not TALK TO DB

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE GET THE MESSAGE,,,it's killing me!!!!!!!

"I PHONED & I phoned & I phoned, but they keep ignoring me,
gee, why would they do that..."

Yes, it's interesting DB has the 3-day cancellation policy. But where do they explain how to go about it? Why can't you call them up to speak with the manager and say we want to cancel, it's been 3 days? (As if one can decide to do it after that glorious presentation).
We signed up on a Sat - they're closed Sun and Mon. That Tues how would we have gone about cancellation?
It's too late for us now but if I'm understanding correctly you have to do a registered or certified ltr on the 3rd day?? Wish I had done that but what else can a newly suckered member do? I think going back and facing the music by the 3rd day and say to manager, ok, we had 3 days to renig. Want out, money refunded and cancel. Out.... stay there until they give something in writing as to a cancellation. That should do it.
This contract (agreement) is proof that people need to think things through astutely before adding a signature to a-n-y document. This was a very costly lesson to me.

Hi Trudy and Jack. DB wants to charge me 25% of my fully paid $5000 membership.  I dont have this in writing from them.  I have opened a complaint with the credit card dispute department. Should I wait to see what the credit card folks can do for me? Should I also see if the BBB can do anything? Are these options all a waste of time?  The credit card company indicated that if I could prove that I did not receive services promised I could expect a full refund.
