We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Hi Amie
In the response to you "Help for Amie"
Your contract is not legal because they claimed that you were married.

HOW ARE YOUR NAMES WRITTEN IN THE CONTRACT?
DID THEY PUT DOWN YOUR LAST NAME AS THE SAME AS YOUR BOYFRIEND'S NAME?
OR DID THEY JUST CHECK OFF MARRIED UNDER MARITAL STATUS?

THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE MARRIED WOMEN MAY USE THEIR MAIDEN NAME IF THEY WANT TO, AFTER MARRIAGE,
Whichever way, you could challenge them by writing that the ERROR that they made, makes the contract unenforceable and you felt undue stress by being forced to sign.
Also, Roger has referred you to more info in this site.

    Hi TO DISGRUNTLED EMPLOYEE
I wish you all the luck and power in the world for fighting him.
Be very careful who you speak to in public about the details of your suit because there are tons of people that would like to shut you up and intimidate you from persuing further.
DB has so many repulsive defenders, it's almost like a cult.
He also has money, power and lawyers on his side.
MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SUIT ASKS FOR COSTS AND MAKE SURE THIS IS RECORDED IN THE PROCEEDINGS.
There are many suits that forget to ask for costs and you can't add it in after a decision is made.
In public, just tell people don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who did you talk  to at the BPCPA.CA?
What did you say?  It doesn't make sense that they can't help you.
You can't make them write the letter for you.

    Trudy,

Thank for the advice. One of the co-workers has a lawyer who specializes in such things, and we're letting him take care of the fine details, but I'll make sure to bring that up just in case it isn't covered. My main objective is to drive him so far out of business that he'll never be able to do this again to anyone. I completely disagree with his 'business model', his ethics, his behavior, and DirectBuy. I have gathered evidence for months against him, and have computer records that point out some of the violations that he's done (such as calling people past 9pm in the same time zone). Recouping some of the money he's stolen from us would be nice, too, but it's about more than money at this point. It's about honor.
I wish everyone here on this board the very best of luck.

    Trudy-
Look what I found on ComplaintsBoard.com written by John Q.:

"If any of the unfortunate victims of this scam want to get some revenge, I sugest that they should gather as much pricing information for items sold by Direct Buy as possible and anonymously post this information on multiple web sites. Be aware that Direct Buy will most definitely attempt to have this "confidential" information removed and prosecute and/or sue those responsible for posting it so please follow these 3 simple guidelines to protect yourself and the web site operators hosting the sites where you post the information:

    1. Post the information using a publicly accessible computer (such as in a library) or from a computer connected to a public wifi network (such as in a coffee shop)

    2. Do not include any personal information or information that could be potentially used to identify you as the poster.

    3. Post the information to sites that are hosted outside of the United States and Canada so that it will be much hard for Direct Buy to have the information removed"

I guess we're not the only ones who have been "warned" that DirectBuy is watching us.

I am so glad that we could help you.
There are still too many people that are still curious enough to go to follow through with the invitation. When they see how beautiful the showroom is and how "nice" the staff is, they get manipulated because the staff is so hungry for their commission, that they lie about everything.
Please help to spread the word.
    Thanks for your input.

    HI ROGER
In case you didn't see it, you got a personalized "Thank-you" on May 17th.
The letter is from Paula, (on page 1) and she said that you (and this site) saved her from responding to the invitation.
Just think, she already had the invitation in her hands, and something made her find this site.  She was so close the tornado... and she got out just in time.
We all have to be proud of ourselves for taking the time to help others.

I just wish that I had a good solution for the people who want help but won't read the site info.

    Hi Roger
I am glad to see that you are keeping up to date with all the info.
This one is extremely interesting and excellent advice, especially since all of the other sites need an e-mail address.

Before I noticed this letter, I had just posted you a note on this page, after my response to Kathie.  You got a personalized THANK-YOU on page 1.
It is so nice to be acknowledged

    Hi Mechole
Please read this site carefully because this is the only site where we can protect our identity and speak freely to help others.
If you read our comments you will understand that this is the reason why we do not e-mail personal responses.

On the other hand, I will try to help.
    Google:     "Illinois Consumer Protection Act"
One title is Consumer protection: Illinois consumer fraud and deceptive...
...summary from a law office ...deceptive practices causing confunsion of the details by ommission of important facts
...tons of info in this site ...
    Any specific questions... please ask

I attended one of their high pressure sales pitches only to discover that their pricing structure is retail and not wholesale.  I would estimate that I pay less than 1/2 of what they charge at Direct Buy.  I did not purchase a membership and you MUST buy a membership on your first and ONLY visit to Direct Buy for $5,000!  Only a chump would be taken in by these scammers.  The pitchman was pissed that I didn't buy but had nothing to say but got a red face and walked away when I said that I didn't believe their pricing structure was wholesale.  I saved $5,000 and a whole lot of aggravation by not buying a membership at Direct Buy.  Over to you...

    Hi Trudy-
Thanks for letting me know about the personal thank you on page one. I don't always get a chance to read through all of the pages now that there are so many comments. I am glad we're making a difference and so happy to have a "partner with eagle eyes"! I am certain that justice will be served and DirectBuy will eventually be put out of business.

    Trudy-
I am also offended by repulsive or immature comments on these boards. It's sad when people have to lash out instead of sticking to the subject matter. You are helping so many people with the practical advice you give and shouldn't feel badly for those who are not willing to put their own effort towards getting their money back. If they took a little time to read through, all of the answers they are looking for are within this post. It is not up to you or me to do their work for them. If you want something bad enough, you'll do whatever it takes to get the job done, right?
Keep posting Trudy and together we are making a difference.

On our contract they checked that we were married. I put my real last name and he put his. I already wrote a letter to the owner of our DB and said everything I felt and took all your advice. Thank you so much. I will let you know what happens when they respond. I appreciate all your help, and sorry about just asking for an example letter, I was just frustrated and annoyed. Thank you!!!!

    Hi Isaiah
I have found many of them to be phony and if they weren't so sickening, I would be laughing.
    The best one is INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
At the end of the page, they talk about some warped "customer satisfaction program"  The initials that they refer to are not even legit.
THEN they tell you to accept an offer for an invitation to the warehouse

They also invite you to file a complaint with their site
AND you get the "Privelige" of disclosing your e-mail address
and tell you to give your name and phone number
"SO THEY CAN SATISFY YOUR CUSTOMER COMPLAINT"
The best part is that your real complaint will never reach the public
so you would never have a chance to warn others
LUCKY THAT MORE AND MORE PEOPLE ARE SEEING THROUGH THEIR SCAMS

    Isaiah
...Just responded to your letter above
Since you are aware that this is the only real website,
don't you think that maybe you should have a little compassion for those who were scammed, instead of calling people "chumps"

Most people are not getting the information that we are providing on this site...they are unbelievably smooth talking, and people just honestly want to save money...hope it helps you to understand a bit better
I made my complaint on INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
**THE [***] BOUGHT THE DAMN SITE AND ERASED THE ALMOST 1,000 COMPLAINTS

I just hope that you will help to warn others, along with us
