We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.
A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.
I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

Don't give up and please keep us informed and post any questions you have, on this site.
I definitely understand the frustration.
I will just say the same thing again,
DON'T EVER GIVE THEM YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS--JUST IN CASE YOU MIGHT HAVE DONE SO ALREADY, JUST STATE, (in a follow-up letter) that you will not respond to them by e-mail and that you expect a response in writing, only.
You can depend on me to skim through, at least once a week and I will let you know if I find anything interesting.
I know that you appreciate it.
I like your comments, we should have an agency called
"EAGLE EYE FIGHTS DIRECT BUY"
Sounds like we're in business......of shutting down DirectBuy!
Saving other people precious money and the nightmare that comes along with a DirectBuy membership is what we're all about! Thanks a bunch, Partner / Detective Trudy!
I've been following DirectBuy for several years now. My original suspicions were raised when they wouldn't tell me the cost of the membership on the phone. RED FLAG!. There is a site which hasn't been bought off that reports on companies like DB. Forget BBB (Better Business Bureau)... they don't report the consumer's story at all, and are paid by the companies.
Try RipoffReports.com for a list of all,and I mean ALL complaints against a company, and DB has a ton!
I think the reason you had the very unique experience of getting your money back is because you live in Canada. The laws of contract are more consumer oriented than here in the US unfortunately for us Yanks.
These crooks need to be put out of business.
Read through Trudy's posts on this website. She does live in Canada but basically you could probably use the same tactics here in the US. You should also call your local District Attorney's office and or State Attorney General. I have listed the law firm information if you want to join a class action lawsuit, which will take longer to resolve, however, you won't ever have to pay legal fees to the attorneys as it is all paid out of the settlement. Good luck.
I don't know of any specific complaints against the franchise you mentioned. However, all DirectBuy locations operate pretty much the same. I am sure there are some honest franchises out there, but they are probably few and far between. If you are a disappointed member, please consider joining the class action lawsuit I mentioned on this site.
Thank you, I will keep everybody posted on my journey, I am determined to get my money back and let the public know of their scam. I will do what ever it takes if there is anybody out there willing to share any new information please let me know.
Unfortunately I do not think that you are truthful because you just make excuses and challenge us to report to you.
You challenge me to say that the laws are better in Canada;
when Roger responded and referred you to my comments, you ignored him and asked for "new & improved" ideas...
THEN you challenge as to whether the other site that you refer to, is associated with db and (by the way, you spell it wrong),
THEN you complain that they did not post your complaint ...
Please don't waste our time Thanks
It was Scott who challenged that laws are better in Canada,
and it is not true...find your CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, one in every State and Province, info is in this site
in Ontario, we don't even have a 3 day cooling-off period, but I put in my letter, anyways...
My tactics are pretty clear and applicable to almost every law that they break...we rarely hear from those who got their money back
Read the post on Page 10 of this site
Houston, Texas 27 April 2009 who got their $ back
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Boston Channel TEAM 5 investigated them & did a video on Nov. 26, 2008
A lady named Rhonda Lisio got her money back, too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, the States have added a 3 day cooling-off period to their contracts.
Ontario, Canada still doesn't even have one but I still fought them on my own.
The only help I got from the Consumer Protection Branch is all printed in this site re: laws they have broken
We don't even have a class-action suit in Canada, either but I just told them what they did wrong...$ back and case closed.
As far as I can remember RipoffReports.com wants your e-mail address, and who knows what they do with it??????????????????
Did you check out the FLORIDA CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT
Contract Law
MISTAKE, DURESS, AND FRAUD
You can try the FRAUD reason to RESCIND the contract based on the fact that db misrepresented an important part of the contract by claiming that you were married...I just realized that I don't think that you mentioned whether or not you lived common-law or not...they might be able to claim that you are technically married, if you do live together, but even if that is the case then they should still be specific on the contract so it's worth a try to use that as an issue against them.
Find out if there are any free legal clinics that might be able to help or guide you in that aspect of the contract.
It really would help if you were more specific with your situation.
Hoping to hear from you, with an update soon.
This is just another example of the "REPULSIVE DB DEFENDERS"
WHO will someday soon, need our help to get out of the DB CULT
