We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    Hope you all have had a nice week. I am still not ready to give you my new advice that reflects on the recent class action decisions. I have FINALLY paid off my membership so I can think a lot clearer now. I must admit that I made some hasty posts but I was under a LOT of pressure financially and personally and said a LOT of things I shouldnt have said and for that I am truly SORRY. I will be back next week with more FREE advice. Thanks again for all your support.

    Don't waste your time with a class action suit, lawyers get all the money and it takes years and years and you will still be ripped off for over $5,000 Dollars****MONEY THAT SHOULD BE BACK IN YOUR POCKET A.S.A.P.********
    Get your money back, I tell you how I did it in this website.
    My complaint should be on page 3 or 4 of this site.
    Also, I just posted more details under the "complaints" (new complaints) of this section since no one could find my letter on INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
    because the site erased it on me because their site protects Direct Buy.
    They are one of the most incredibly scum that I have ever heard of.
    No gov't agency will stop them.
    The Consumer Protection Branch in Ontario will help you, who I filed a complaint with, and I had  already got my money back before they had even assigned someone to my case.
    When I called them to tell them that I got my money back, they didn't even care.  They were just happy that they had one less case to deal with because gov't agency staff get paid for sitting on their lazy butts.
    Now I check this site every day because I can't stand to see people scammed this way.
    PLEASE Respond.  Did anyone else get their money back?
    Any questions, let me know.  Thank goodness for this site who allows all the information to stay on their site.

    I couldn't believe it, when I read the so called complaints on INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
    They only post phony compliments and at the end of the page they tell you to apply for a Direct Buy membership.  No wonder they erased your letter.
    Notice that they haven't had a comment posted since Nov. 17, 2008.
    When I tried to post a complaint, I noticed that INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
    states that they have the right to reject any posts for any reason, so you may not be posted. I will try to get my money back, too.

    Hi Trudy -  Thanks for joining us in warning people not to join DirectBuy. It's been a complete nightmare. We're tried to get our money back with both the owner and our credit card company. VISA is reviewing our re-disputed claim at this time, however, I don't feel like we're going to get our money back.

    We joined DirectBuy in California at the end of 2007 and thought we'd save money because we were in the process of a major remodel and total redecorating. We tried working with them, however, always found a better deal elsewhere (internet, local vendors, even Home Depot & Lowes). When I proved I got lower prices, the DirectBuy owner didn't believe me. Don't even get me started on the people they have "designing" cabinets. I'm glad I didn't purchase from them because I heard of another DB member whose cabinets were the incorrect size upon arrival. DB didn't do anything to make it better. All in all, DB has to be one of the worst companies we've dealt with. I wish I would have done my homework before we went to the open house.

    I'm glad you got your money back. I'm just going to have to wait and see.....I will link other complaint boards to this site & your letter, which is very helpful! Thanks for all of your hard work. I hope we can prevent other people from the heartache!

    even if a person gets in under the 3 day cooling off period wire with a formal request for cancellation it is unlikely that a refund will be forthcoming. it is in the best interest of a club to force a member to commence legal procedings.

    UCC TotalHome MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT
    Term of Membership Three (3) Years

    This agreement binds the Club, its successors and assigns. Member's rights, powers, privileges, duties and liabilities are not assignable and terminate upon death of the member listed below.

    Members understand this program is not sold on a trial basis
    and no refund of membership fees will be made.
    The Club is only obligated to arrange benefits as described in this Membership Agreement.

    This Membership Agreement is not conditioned on the use of this Membership.

    2) Any need for subsequent repairs or service, after receipt of merchandise, is members' own responsibility.

    AND THAT THE CONDITION OF THE ITEM IS ACCEPTABLE TO THEM,

    4) The entire merchandise price plus handling fee,
    estimated freight and sales tax is required as a down payment
    at the time of placing an order with the Club.

    5) Check your suppliers' catalog for estimated delivery information, since it will vary for individual suppliers.
    The Club has no control over the actual delivery time which may vary from estimated delivery times.

    6) Suppliers reserve the right to change their prices without notice.

    Adjustments in price due to unknown increases in suppliers' wholesale prices will be charged to the members and
    is payable within (7) days of receipt of such information.
    Any ordering member agrees that each order is subject to such price adjustments, and the member agrees to pay any resulting price increase.

    Any additional charges for freight, sales tax, delivery and installation will be added to orders as they apply.
    Only new merchandise will be ordered, and distressed, damaged or factory second merchandise WILL NOT be handled by the Club.
    From time to time some suppliers and services are dropped and others are added in order to maintain the high standards of merchandise and services available through the Club.

    7) Only the supplier has the right to cancel an order.
    However, you can request a cancellation, and be notified of cancellation if it is acknowledged in writing by the supplier .
    No order cancellations will be honored or deposit refunds made once the factory has acknowledged the order.
    All acknowledged orders are contingent on the supplier's availability to complete such an order.
    The fulfillment of an order is subject to strikes, fires, and other causes beyond our control. The limit of the Club's liability in the event an order cannot be fulfilled is the amount shown on the order, which the Club will refund.
    MEMBERS' PLEDGE      Members agree that:
    All merchandise shall be purchased for Members' personal use or as a bona fide gift only and will not be purchased by the Member for purposes of resale, nor shall the Club's low price be disclosed to retailers.
    Members will not call or deal directly with the Club suppliers.
    Members agree to abide by the warranties of the suppliers.
    Violation of these rules shall entitle Club to revoke said offending Members' Club privileges.

    Trudy what is your advice in dealing with Direct Buy.  I bought a membership, they emailed the onlline passocde.  That's when I discovered their prices were not lower on the items I wanted.  I called the store 20 hours later.  The ABQ direct buy store told me they would reverse the membership charge.  A few days later I called becase the chsrge was still on my credit card.  The same person then said I know I said no but now I'm saying no.  My credit card company said they coldn't help me.  I wrote the president, talked to a direct Buy  customer service person.  The president or anybody from dirct buy has contacted me.

    I requested the information from DirectBuy and I was sent a 30 Day trial certificate in the mail that I can use.

    It says I can purchase up to $1000.00 worth of stuff without paying any membership fees during the 30 days.

    I not naive (I'm in sales) I understand that a sale person will try to sell me a full membership (just like the free trial health club) offering me some discount, but the fact that I see and use the service without payment is no different then Netflicks 30 day trial. If I like it I'll buy it, if I don't I won't.
