We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.
A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.
I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

1. A brand new dell computer
2. a 19 piece knife set
3. A 3-day 2-night vacation package
4. A new color television set
5. Or $500.00 in cash
Which includes all the Directbuy Stores not just the ark-la-tex so it makes there chances of winning nothing at all.
It's just to get people in to door who make over $40,000.00 per year. You will get 19 piece knife set and a 3day 2night vacation which you have to pay a fee for that. I am very sorry for working for that company and being apart of the scheming ways to make the all mighty dollar.
I am not writing this to hurt Directbuy but to redeem myself to the people I have manipulated by working for directBuy
Sincerly,
Unable to give name
It's a real disappointment
I just found your response and I hope it's not too late
I sent them a letter by registered mail, to the owner or director of the franchise. I stated that I would like a full refund based on the fact that the CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT allows me to RESCIND a contract that has put me under UNDUE PRESSURE BY forcing me to sign a contract without a "cooling off period" because the contract states it is a one time offer and there are no refunds.
RESCINDING the contract is an agreement where it is considered that the contract never existed.
If you find anything cheaper in retail, you can also include that also, inc. the name of the store and the u.p.c. code and the price.
DO NOT discuss anything by phone or any other form of communication.
You can ask that the response should also be returned by reg'd mail, although they are not obligated to do so.
Just state any problems that you have had, just in your own words and do not be intimidated, it does not have to be formal.
Give them a time limit to respond, usually 2 weeks.
D.B. wanted to discuss it by phone but I sent a quick fax(keep the rec't)
saying that anything that they have to say must be in writing to prevent further missinterpretation.
People are talking about a class action suit, but don't waste your time because the lawyers get all the money and it takes years.
You may have to send them a follow-up reminding them to please respond promptly. My best line is "Upon legal advice"...........I am requesting a full refund or further action may be brought against them.No returns on orders is also against the law, and does not promote trust.
There is a Consumer Protection office on yonge street in toronto, ontario.
They give free advice and after you receive your response from D.B. you can file a report with the office or try to find the equivilant agency where you live. They will help you take D.B. to small claims court if needed. good luck and don't give up.
In case you don't get it I will try to help you.
Don't waste your money with a class action suit, lawyers get all the $
Send REGISTERED LETTER, make copies 1st, and keep rec't for mail as proof
DO NOT communicate in any other method, send letter to owner or director of franchise
Look up the CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, state that the Act allows you to RESCIND a contract that put you under UNDUE PRESSURE, because it was a one-time offer with no cooling off period, and the contract states no refunds.
NO RETURNS on merchandise or orders is also against the law and only a co. that is hiding something would operate this way. State in your own words any problems that you have had and ask for a full refund, ask them to please respond by reg'd mail,(even tho, they are not obligated to do so)
Ask them to respond within 2 weeks
You may follow-up by fax, to reduce your costs.
good luck, let me know if you find my letter to Mary. Don't give up.
I DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONLLY PERSON WHO GOT THEIR MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just posted a couple letters somewhere in the middle of all of these complaints with a lot a advice, since I got my money back.
HOPEFULLY, YOU CAN FIND MY LETTERS DATED, March 31, 09.
If you can't find them, let me know and I will try to help.
You have to very patient when you scroll though the pages because the letters are not in order.
Get your money back, I tell you how I did it in this website.
My complaint should be on page 3 or 4 of this site.
Also, I just posted more details under the "complaints" (new complaints) of this section since no one could find my letter on INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
because the site erased it on me because their site protects Direct Buy.
They are one of the most incredibly scum that I have ever heard of.
No gov't agency will stop them.
The Consumer Protection Branch in Ontario will help you, who I filed a complaint with, and I had already got my money back before they had even assigned someone to my case.
When I called them to tell them that I got my money back, they didn't even care. They were just happy that they had one less case to deal with because gov't agency staff get paid for sitting on their lazy butts.
Now I check this site every day because I can't stand to see people scammed this way.
PLEASE Respond. Did anyone else get their money back?
Any questions, let me know. Thank goodness for this site who allows all the information to stay on their site.
and on page 3 or 4 of this site. Let me know if it helps.

I couldn't believe it, when I read the so called complaints on INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
They only post phony compliments and at the end of the page they tell you to apply for a Direct Buy membership. No wonder they erased your letter.
Notice that they haven't had a comment posted since Nov. 17, 2008.
When I tried to post a complaint, I noticed that INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM
states that they have the right to reject any posts for any reason, so you may not be posted. I will try to get my money back, too.
Excellent research, i just found out what a scam INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM is.
I am trying to get the word out, too. I have several letters on this site
warning people, too and trying to help people get their money back, like I did. My letter was one of the nearly thousand complaints that was erased.
Thank goodness for COMPLAINTWIRE.

Ask him if he is still adding names to the suit vs. Directbuy
Ask him if you add your name to the suit, are you allowed to still attempt to get your money back on your own.
Consider that the suit might take years and there is a rumour about db declaring bankruptcy.
If you want to try to get your money back, I have posted some info throughout this site.
The most important thing that you have to research is to
*Find out what laws in your state cover "UNFAIR PRACTICE"
Where I live it's called the CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT
Find out which laws are equivalent to the act, wherever you live.
*They break just about every law that it covers. in your own words, you can tell them why you have not been able to use the membership
*Show proof of items that you found in retail, that are cheaper
Apply whatever rules that they break
*Just send them a reg'd letter -addressed to the owner or director
Must be signed by both members Keep all copies of letters, events, and rec'ts
DO NOT EVER SPEAK TO THEM BY TELEPHONE, DO NOT HAVE ANY MEETINGS WITH ANYONE IN THE DB OFC. DO NOT PROTEST PUBLICLY OR MAKE A SCENE
REMEMBER THAT THEY HAVE POWER AND THEY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU
EVERYTHING MUST BE IN WRITING, TO PREVENT FURTHER MISSUNDERSTANDINGS
Follow-up letters can be sent by fax.
Ask them to RESCIND the contract and return your money back in full, state the total cost.
Don't let them intimidate you.
I still see db ads on t.v. and it just makes me angry as hell.
Please fight for your rights and don't give up
I'll be checking in with this site regularly, please respond
I hope this helps.
