We attended their presentation and after some calculation decided to pay for the membership which was $4990. We wanted to update our kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bedroom furniture. We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender Beta Finance.

A month later we started planning our purchases and realized we were about to pay more by buying through them than we would otherwise. What the don't tell you on their presentation is that while you save about 10% on furniture they add 8 % handling charge in addition to 7% tax, and that doesn't include shipping.

I am now trying to get our membership money back. Do not become a member! Buy from other stores.

    I am glad to see this web site - I been trying to cancel my membership - I did not pay the whole $5K but rather took the monthly due fo $190 - I found that the service is really sucks and I been trying to call direct buy to cancel my membership so that I dont get this $190 monthly bill from Beta Finanace.  When we sign in they told us that we can cancel the membership or put in on hold, only when we decide to be a member again we will just repay the upaind monthly due which is why it prompted us to join in the first place.  Now I tried to put a hold on my membership and they are giving me the going around and tellig me to talk to the Gaithersburg branch director (Robert Wagner).  I beed trying to call this guy for a month but never get him on the phone and never reply to my v-mail.  Now I am really frustrated and decided not to hold but to cancel my membership because of thier broken promises.  Can you tell me how to stop this - I am not after to the dues that I already paid i just want them to stop sendting me the bills.

    db has way too much money that they hide because they used it to buy INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM  so they could erase the nearly 1,000 complaints vs. them and mine was one of them.    
    Best advice: Print my letter at the end of this file and pass it out to as many people as you can.  Don't Give Up!!!Please respond, I will be always check in with this site.
     I REALLY WANT EVERYONE TO FIGHT THESE DIRTY SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Actually with a class action lawsuit, the plaintiff (victim in our case) never has to pay anything to the representing attorneys, nor do we have to pay court fees, etc. If "the Class" (us victims) win the case, the attorneys settle to cover paying us back plus for their services in representing us. The great thing about a class action lawsuit is there is power in numbers and it seems all of our stories match in how we were scammed.

    DirectBuy bought INFOMERCIALSCAMS.COM so that they could erase the nearly 1,000 complaints vs. them
    They post phony complaints and haven't even posted anything since Nov. 2008
    At the bottom of their 1 page site, they blab some moronic statement about how directbuy adheres to some "blah blah blah" customer service policy...
    If you go to "file a complaint" they state that they will remove any complaints that they think are false.  They tell you to leave all of your contact info so that "...They can help to resolve your complalint..."

    Thanks for joining us in warning people not to join DirectBuy. It's been a complete nightmare. We're tried to get our money back with both the owner and our credit card company. VISA is reviewing our re-disputed claim at this time, however, I don't feel like we're going to get our money back.

    We joined DirectBuy in California at the end of 2007 and thought we'd save money because we were in the process of a major remodel and total redecorating. We tried working with them, however, always found a better deal elsewhere (internet, local vendors, even Home Depot & Lowes). When I proved I got lower prices, the DirectBuy owner didn't believe me. Don't even get me started on the people they have "designing" cabinets. I'm glad I didn't purchase from them because I heard of another DB member whose cabinets were the incorrect size upon arrival. DB didn't do anything to make it better. All in all, DB has to be one of the worst companies we've dealt with. I wish I would have done my homework before we went to the open house.

    I'm glad you got your money back. I'm just going to have to wait and see.....I will link other complaint boards to this site & your letter, which is very helpful! Thanks for all of your hard work. I hope we can prevent other people from the heartache!

    I am an ex worker of direct buy in nework and scam it is. They pay the workers nothing so they do just that.   They change 0 handling to 8% on alot of the catalogs manually.   They force you to deceide on the spot and then ingnore you the next day when you call so they win on the 72 hour cacell laws. Any way stay away as they hold your orders for weeks after you pay so that they gain interest on the money, also if you decide to join different directbuy have different membership fees.  thats why you need to make your decision at that time.

    My husband and I attended an open house yesterday.  We were not comfortable with the pressure or giving them money on the spot, Thank GOD!!  We did sign this Pending Agreement Rider that gives us until 04/20 to pay the over $5,000 in full by this date, though she tried diligently to brainstorm with us how to make the payment right then and there.  They have no information except our names and unfortunately our phone number. I am glad we did not sign up for any financing or did not give them any $ or further personal information!  It gave us an opportunity to find this site tonight and RUN!!!  Thank you all for saving us from a huge headache!!  I feel for all of you that are finding yourselves in the middle of this hell!

    Directbuy is laughing all the way to the bank, They have found loop-holes to get around refunding memberships. Even the provincial and federal governments in Canada won't step in and put a stop to their high-pressure sales tactics.  CBC marketplace did a hidden camera segment on Directbuy to warn Canadians about their sales tactics,no refund policy etc.. but they still take their advertising dollars and run directbuy commercials...what the hell is up with that.

    I saw the "so called investigation" by CBC Marketplace
    It was a set up because it was the most irresponsible report I have ever seen.
    I live in Toronto, ON where they filmed the video "undercover"
    I was in shock, disgusted and so upset that they don't give a damn
    They took the hidden video to a University to analyze it
    I THOUGHT UNIVERSITIES WERE SUPPOSED TO GIVE EDUCATED INFO
    THE MORONS BLABBED ON ABOUT "THE COMPETITION BUREAU" WHO WON'T GET INVOLVED
    Of course they won't get involved because they cover Advertising laws and they make too much money off the commercials, like you have observed, also

    Find the CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, 2002  ON THE INTERNET  part III UNFAIR PRACTICE    ---Directbuy break just about every rule.
    Forcing you to sign right away puts you under "UNDUE PRESSURE". Send the owner a reg'd letter.  After you get your response, you then file a complaint with the branch
    They can help you take DB to court for FREE, if needed
    I will keep checking in and posting letters on this site
    I want everyone to get their money back and shut them down.

    Infomercial Scam Site is a Scam, too
    Don't believe anything on the Infomercial Scam site. I had originally printed all of the pages to give to my VISA card company. When I was credited my membership fee back, I shredded the letters......boy, was that a mistake! Nearly 1000 complaints to glowing reviews overnight. I think these DirectBuy franchise owners sit up on their computers at night and write themselves great review comments or perhaps they have some lackey who they hire to do this. Don't believe the reviews on this site......they are all lies. DirectBuy is a direct nightmare, headache, and ulcer making membership company. Keep your money and shop someplace else!
