They have to have "served" you indicating they filed a law suit. If you don't respond to the lawsuit within the 20 - 30 days provided, the court acknowledges a "default" and considers it a "win" for MCT. They are then awarded everything they ask for. That is when they get legal approval for wage garnishment.

They have no hearts ... they are making a mint off your debt. They bought low and are collecting high. There needs to be legislation that limits what they can do. Unfortunately, nobody seems to care about the families who are homeless, living paycheck to paycheck or surviving on next to nothing. We don't use credit cards to purchase anything except for fuel and we pay that off every month. My husband incurred large sums of debt in his previous marriage, which is what they are seeking to collect now ... I don't think they can touch me or my paycheck but I am sure they will try.

This key is here...when you requested that they not contact you at work did you put that in writing to them or did you just verbally state that to them? If you put it in writing and can provide proof you would automatically win $1000 in small claims for it is a violation of FDCPA. You would also need the proof that they sent the letters to your jobs via actually copies of the letters or a notarized statement from the person receiving them at your place of employment.

I can't stress how important it is to NEVER do anything verbal with a collection company! Everything must be in writing and mail certified and faxed! Without the certified...you have no proof that you sent it nor that they received it.

Some collection agencies don't like to accept certified mail... so simply only put your mailing address on the top left corner without your name and write "Payment Enclosed" on the front of the envelope. They will accept it and OPEN it!

Just remember... as long as they are a third party collection agency they fall under the rules of the FDCPA! So if you want them to stop calling and sending letters... simply write them a cease and desist letter. But keep in mind, this only stops them from harassing you...not from trying to collect the debt.

    Good luck!

Some ppl may have lost their jobs in this crazy economy.  Don't just assume people are not paying their bills just because they do not feel like it.

these leeches feed off the misfortunate, they will not work with you to pay off a debt in the beggining. They will drag it out until they feel they have sucked the most money they can from a debt they paid pennies on the dollar for and have us innocent hard working people bleed for it. They Illegaly do it, and have their BH lawyer cover it up for them. They have 5 employees and their revenue is millions of dollars a year, that alone is super shady and should be looked into. They need to be put out of business, its not right to go after peoples food and rent money to pay for their yachts. Crooks CRooks CRooks. Im sure they are in debt up to their necks too with the lifestyle they have to try to keep up with, from the money they steal from us. This is not about not paying the bills, because when you try with MCT they will not let you even if you wanted to pay it they will kick a man while he is down no matter what it takes.

Evil hearted shady crooks, they would take the clothes off your back and spit on you if they didn't think they would get caught. Jason Russell is one class act..I understand people should pay their debt....but double their debt due to interest....give us a break, we all fall on hard times. Jason, Karma is going to bite you in the ass. Good Riddance. Calling people names and being rude is just plain wrong...and agaist the law. Article 2.10 - Fair Debt Practices - California
    Profane, Obscene or Abusive Language
A collector may not use language that is profane, obscene, vulgar or abusive in order to induce payment of a debt, whether in communications with a debtor a member of his or her family, or any other person. 2. Language whose effect is to abuse. A collector may not use any kind of language in connection with the collection of a debt whose natural effect is to abuse the debtor.141

When you take a loan on a vehicle, you promise that you will carry comprehensive and collision insurance.  That way, if the vehicle is totaled, the insurance company pays for the loss. When someone fails to keep their promise -- by not carrying the PROMISED insurance, why should we sympathize with them when the lienholder is entitled to get repayment for the loan?  The a$$ho*e is the one who promised to do something and then dropped the insurance to save money!  Every complaint on this board seems to be from someone who borrowed money and then failed to re-pay it.  Get a life!

MCT Group Inc - Business address 2309 W 190th St, Redondo Beach, CA 90278 is the same as 2309 W 190th St, Torrance, CA (google map) sneaky shameless business. In fact, the address if you look careful points to near where, but to Cresta Mobile Homes. I can NOT locate MCT Group Inc in the nearby businesses. According to California Code 17538.5 - any business in the state must...not use a P.O. Box address, a private mailbox, or a street address representing a street used for business... This business uses several false (FAKE) business address but keeps the contact number (310)372-7025. The contact number is associated to PO Box 7748
Torrance, CA. Again this is a violation, illegal practice. (17538.5)
Dan Matthews and Chris Peter are the ONLY employee, I think everyone is fake, pretending, random people off the street. Just look at the address ALL the address. There first Attorney Susnow unfair debt collection act in 2008 in a "sister state" was deemed illegal and a judgement was placed against MCT Group & Susnow for practicing debt collection without a license in another state. According to California law 1710.20 .."a judgement in 2008, entered by a in sister state shall be enforced and files in California Superior Court." Attorney Peter Warren Singer has been using a different address 1762 Hotel Cirle, Ste 315, San Diego, CA 92108 - contact: (619) 299-8234. Has anyone been notified of all these changes. Anyhow Attorney Susnow, deceased in 2011.  MCT Group has been representing there address illegally by providing you with a P.O. Box address. There former attorney Susnow was the actual owner of MCT Group until his death. MCT Group according to their online profile started their business in 2005, but how is that they have been filing lawsuits since 1999 with Attorney Susnow, who also uses different alias. That address that Susnow had on his forms was to a P.O. Box address in Beverly Hills, Ca.
FILE A CLAIM with FTC PLEASE, a class action suit will be conducted!

Can you explain why you incurred a debt and failed to re-pay it? Rather than complaining about the debt collector, maybe they should be complaining about you! Why aren't you keeping your promise? Maybe you are a loser.

If you were in the same business, then you'd know that it is the FDCPA. You need to go back and read some more BS on the internet.

I used to have major debt and I also felt sorry for myself, complaining that the creditors were heartless. When I finally realized that the collection agency had actually LOWERED the interest rate that I was previously paying the bank, and when I finally recognized that it was not reasonable for them to allow me a 14-year payback, we came to terms. Uncomfortable for me and not quite what the collection agency wanted. That's what a reasonable settlemtn is. So I've matured to the point where I no longer have any sympathy for those of us who cause our own problems and want to blame others.

When I got evicted from my apartment, the hardest pill for me to swallow was when the landlord told me that they didn't ADOPT me when I signed the lease.  They were right....

Mr. Somebody Who Knows, you obviously don't know much.  Everyone's situation is not the same, there are deadbeats and then there are people who have genuinley fallen on hard times.  Being laid off and without work for three months can set a person a very far back, being issued a fraudulent check depositing it in your account and paying bills on it only to have it be deemed fraudulent and receiving hundreds of dollars in fees from Mission Fed does not make you a bad person.  There are many people who want the chance to make good on bills but numerous collection agancies are not willing to work out something that will get them the money.
Remember not every situation is the same and not everyone has the ability to pay.  Do not judge unless you know all of the facts.  Facts right now are that some of these agencies are very shady and create a bigger problem than people being unable to thousands of dollars back.
For those of you still havig problems...file bankruptcy then they get nothing instead of something.

I told Jason Russell personally to kiss my black [***] a long time ago and he still has not received a dime from me and up to this day MCT Group never will get a dime. They buy these debts for ten cents on the dollar and then they try to go to court and ask for the full amount plus interest. You need to answer any lawsuits in court and demand to see the actual contract that they purchased from the creditor and you will be shocked with that they actually paid.

I hope to see Jason Russell personally in Bankruptcy Court. Merry Christmas! :)
