Received a call from a wireless caller 254-217-8107 (LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS, LLC – TX) which is local to where we reside. A woman left a message claiming that my husband needed to call and give this company an updated address to receive a court summons.  The woman on the phone left the following number (888-247-2983) along with a claim number. At the end of the message the individual stated very rudely that my husband had been notified. Upon calling the phone number provided and got a rep by the name Diego Chris (extension 305) and said he was calling from Universal. He stated that my husband needed to appear in court on fraudulent charges and would not give any other information that I requested concerning the matter. The very next day we received a call from family stating that they also receive a phone call looking for my husband. The phone call came from the following number 409-292-0183 (LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS, LLC – TX) which is local to where our family resides.  When my family ask who was calling for my husband the individual on the other end simply ended the call. The number that show up on the caller ID are local number, but when trying to dial the number back you receive the following messages: “Busy Signal” and “Due to network issues the call cannot go through and to try the call later.” When my husband called the toll free number given; he stated that a man answered the phone and then hung up on him. Several attempts later all we got when calling the number was a Universal recording to either dial an extension or “0” for the operator to assist you. When dialing the extension and/ or “0” all you hear is “The person you are trying to reach is currently on the phone. Please leave a message at the tone or press the pound sign for further options.”

I just received a call from a level 3 Communications VoIP from New York.  I googled it and it took me here to this site.  My phone has the ability to block and identifies scammer numbers.  Sounds A lot like that to me.  I Never answer a call I don't know.  There are so many scammers out there.   It's all a ploy to get your voice on the phone.  Don't pick up.

Level 3 is a former fiber optic wholesaler &VOIP supplier. Most of their assets have been purchased by Century Link. Their former prez left to become my companies COO. My firm 360networks we’re neighbors & competitors in Broomfield, CO where our corporate headquarters were located. Both companies installed fiber around the world. Both were legitimate companies that suffered greatly in the early 2000’s in the fiber glut & massive debt.
I suspect whoever was using their name had nothing to do with Level 3 communications beyond possibly utilizing their VOIP (voice over Internet protocol) technology to make calls as most of us do today that connects our phones to WiFi to avoid the cost of telephone companies. Unless you folks are vendors or subcontractors or clients that didn’t get paid or didn’t receive assets as promised due to Chapter 11 reorganization, the use of their moniker Level 3 I’m confident it’s a coincidence. Likely scammers, but only in their own right.

This just happened to us on 1/22/13: woman called from local number 734-796-2120 and gave us 888-247-2983.  She was very rude when I asked company name and where they were based out of.  She said the company name was Universal Legal Firm, but sounded a bit flustered when I asked her the name of the company she was calling from...then she got rude.  She said, "why does it matter where we are based out of."  When I told her that I wanted to make sure that they weren't scammers, she got mad and said that we would be served papers anyways and that they just had to call and let us know that we were charged with fraud.  She definitely had an accent.  When I called the other number, the man also had an accent and said that my husband was charged with fraud.  The next hour after I called the 888 number, I have received 2 solicitation phone calls from other companies, which is very unusual.  One was GOODNEIGHBOR and one was NETPROWA I would suggest not to call back the 888 number.  I am reporting to the FBI and would suggest you do the same.  They are obviously a scam.

When you are given an 800 number of any kind, will always provide the caller you humber you are calling from. Why? The call may be for you, but whoever owns that number is paying for it and therefore your number is identifed for them. You cannot block you number when calling a Toll Free  line. If you do not know the number calling you and they leave you an 800 number of any kind, do not call back, Scammer, Fraudulant caller.

I know this is late but this is a scam, level 3 communications is a service provider I believe, which their customers are using to send fraudulent text messages claiming to be from banks or such to get your personal info and commit identity theft. Beware

Got a text message from an Iowa area code claiming to be my bank saying they couldn't reach me and that my account was now locked. Mind you this text msg came through after 1am so I was suspicious right away. My bank has fantastic security and has always emailed me or called me to notify me of problems. I will call them in the morning to make them aware. And the email address attached to the text had my banks name in it along with random other letters. Definitely not responding to that message or calling the number. Which was:
(PID:LZE60G) SMS677665  We cannot reach you! - ACC LOCKED - Please call +1(712)823-0370
    Beware!!
