Just got the same letter from aca saying we owe $624.99.  I'm debating whether to even respond to it.  I've been dealing with yellowpages off and on for over a year now.  They call every few months and ask when I'm going to send payment.  I keep telling them that I'm not going to and that I didn't authorize any listing.

One time they called they said they wanted to record the conversation.  The guy worded 2 confirmations into one questions trying to get me to confirm a cancellation of the listing AND confirmation that I would send payment to them ASAP.  I was very specific in my answer that "I want the listing canceled AND that I will not be paying any invoice for the listing".  He got pissed with my answer and hung up.  The funny thing is that we are still listed on their website. LOL

I've got the 4 dates written down and what was said and who I talked to.

I received a bill today for $624.99 in regard to yellowpagesesxpress.com for $624.99.  I told them to "Bite Me".  That is a legal response. Isn't it?  I just might turn this into a new sport if they continue to call and harass.

We have also received a letter of debt collection from A.C.A. Recovery.  We called back and they stated that they had a confirmation from me regarding advertising with yellowpagesexpress.  I said that I would never authorize this as a business owner. They stated they had verbal confirmation from me.  Ms. Hatley said that she will put in a dispute claim with their client.

They are trying to collect $624.99.

I do remember receiving a phone call regarding a listing and verifying information ... however I asked was this was for and found out it was for online adversting directory and said that we are not interested.  I noticed that a previous posting stated that fraudulenty doctored phone recordings were being used.

I hope the FTC can shut this company down and reach business owners before they fall victim to this scam.

You can call 1-877-FTC-HELP, or go to www.ftc.gov/complaint.  If you got a letter through the mail, you can also lodge a complaint with the US Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455 or postalinspectors.uspis.gov.  I have done so with both of these organizations over the letter I received.

I'm sure there are other places to file complaints, but I don't have that information.  Does anyone else?

You can add another bogus claim to this long list. My company just received the letter, saying that we had authorized something, doesn't even say what, and that we owe, you guessed it, $624.99. Of course now I have to waste my time writing them a letter of dispute. I "feel" that ACA Recovery, Inc. is a bogus business, in the practise of scamming people and businesses out of money.  I'm not falling for it, and neither should anyone else.

First send a dispute to the debt collector, ACA Recovery.  Send it certifed return receipt requested, for proof of delivery.  Indicate you never agreed to any such listing or charges, and that you are filing complaints with the authorities.

    1)  File complaints with FTC, as one of ACA's "internet directory" clients was sued by FTC and is subject to a federal injunction.

    2)  Your state Attorney General, since Attorneys General often respond faster to systematic fraud attempts against their fellow citizens and state residents than FTC.

    3)  New Jersey Attorney General, since ACA Recovery is located in New Jersey.

    4)  The U.S. Postal Inspector, for investigation of mail fraud, since it appears that the debt collector is aware of the fraudulent nature of the "debt" for which they just sent a fraudulent "collection letter" through the U.S. Mail.

    5)  www.ic3.gov, site for reporting internet fraud.

    6)  You regional FBI White Collar Crime unit.  That has been the part of the federal government that has assisted in investigation of similar fraudulent telemarketing operations, and they should be made aware of "legitimate" companies who are assisting fraudulent ones.

Your situation matches the pattern of criminal scammers calling from India, especially if they have thick Indian accents.

They typically make threats, claim to be "attorneys", a "law firm", law enforcement, or that they are suing you.  They are often have SSN and other id information, contact and threaten relatives or employers, and attempt to panic people into paying fake "payday loans".

They are criminals, not "attorneys", DAs, or law enforcement.
They cannot "sue" you, "arrest" you, or anything but threaten you on the phone.

They are a bunch of lying cheats, using cheap VoIP to run a con and extortion racket from overseas.

This is a con, an extortion racket.

Do not believe anything they say, and do not give them any information or pay them in any way.

File a complaint with the FBI, who can tell you that this is in fact a scam.

If they call back, just hang up, or laugh at them and notify them you are recording the call as evidence.

Complaints against that number, starting less than a month ago, are consistent with a phony "debt collection" extortion racket.  They typically change their numbers frequently to hide their trail.

    Unlikely.

Even the attorney they were reported to be using is also reported to be denying any current relationship with them, although there are still reports they use his name on their letters.

Best action to take at this time is to file fraud complaints with FTC, your state Attorney General, New Jersey Attorney General, U.S. Postal Inspector, and at www.ic3.gov

Just received one of the sames letters from ACA Recovery today in the amount of 604.95. Never  have talked to these people but Online Business Solutions have bothered us in the past. We are located in Tennessee, do they do this all over ? Plan on writing a letter and telling them to  desist, we are not paying them anything. Has this worked for anyone else ? We ahve been plagued for two years with yellow pages billing us when we have not ordered any of it. Is anyone else having this problem ? Why can't these people be stopped ?

About a year ago I received a phone call from online Yellowpages telling me they were recording the phone call and that I owed a bill to them and asked "would I pay it?"  I replied that if I did indeed owe money, I would pay the bill but only if they could provide me with a signed copy of the contract and a bill.  NOTHING.

The phone calls started again 3 months ago saying that I have a past due bill and they have a recorded message of me saying that I would pay the bill.  I replied that I was sure they had a recording to play me that has been manipulated to suit their needs for collection of debt and this is fraud.  I also responded that I NEVER verbally agree to anything over the phone unless I initiate the call therefore this debt is not mine.  The last caller attempting to collect told me that I was being turned in for collection and "good luck."

I have repeatedly asked for a signed copy of the contract and have NEVER received a bill in the mail, only harassing phone calls.  Not sure this is legal but probably depends on the laws of debt collection per state.

I highly recommend corresponding only with this company only via certified mail for your protection.  I would also write a letter to your local credit bureau reporting agency explaining in as much detail as possible why you are disputing this claim and ask that the letter be put into your file for future reference.

We just had this same thing happen to our company.  ACA Recovery said they were recovering an old debt from yellowpagesexpress.  So, I called yellowpagesexpress and I told them we never advertised with them.  The woman I spoke to pulled up our inforamtion and asked me who I was, then when I started to complain, she said she was only the answering service and would give them (yellowpagesexpress) the message.  If she was only the answering service, how come she had all the information on me in front of her.  I checked the address for ACA Recovery and it is a UPS Store.  So, I figure they have a box in the UPS Store where they receive their payments.  I think all the people who call you work from their homes.  Anyway, we NEVER placed an ad with yekllowpagesexpress and we're not going to pay for something we did not request.  I think both companies are bogus entities and just figure that some people will pay just because they are intimidated.
