CPS financed my car 2 years ago.  One month, I called because I was going to be late with my payment.  They offered a one-time-only deal of extending that payment for 2 weeks.  I accepted.  What they did not tell me was that this was a permanent change to my payment due date.  Since then, I am now ALWAYS 2 weeks late with my payment with monthly late fees piling up that I refuse to pay.  I currently owe almost $2,000 in late fees because of this; also, because of this continual lateness, they have harrassed me at work calling continuously while I am in class teaching.  One day I had to argue with the csr because she told me to clean out my car, she was sending a repo team to my school to pick up my car.  I asked her if I could call her back in 20 minutes after my students left, she said to just clean out my car.  I chewed her out and hung up.  She called 5 minutes later claiming that it was not her who had previously called me and asking if I would PLEASE return her call in 20 minutes.  They have also harrassed my elderly and ill parents, my neighbors, my friends, and my coworkers.

Everyone that is having issues with CPS, please file complaints with the FTC & BBB.  I've had issues with them as well, including having them threaten to repossess my car, which I was okay with, because at the time I was falling behind on payments due to lack of hours.  Two months past & they never came, continued to call & threaten.  I finally had enough of the phone calls to my home, & to my family, having my account information left on unidentified voicemails, plus they had not mailed my payment history as I had requested.

Sure, I've read where many did not get a response from them, maybe I was one of the lucky one's, but I DID get a response.  They have 2 weeks to respond through BBB, and on the 14th day I had a manager contacting me.  We played phone tag for several days, but eventually we talked & were able to work out a resolution.

Quick note: it's a good idea to keep track of all numbers they call from, date/time, if a message was left save it, take notes of the names of people you have spoken to, also keep track of any times/dates you have called them, whether you reached someone (if you do speak to someone get their name).  I also kept written records of the conversations, just in case.  These notes, I have found, have become very handy, whether when speaking with a representative there or for filing complaints.

Hope this helps some of you.

Each and everyone of you has taken the test right out of my mouth, I can relate with every comment in some way or the other!!! Thanks ML for the information as to how to file the complaint. I can handle whatever CPS ditches out but I will not have them upsetting my 72 year old mother. It is time for each and everyone of us to take a stand and put this rip off company out of business.

CPS is HORRIBLE to deal with.  I purchased my car from them last October and it has been one nightmare after another. First let me start off by saying they have some type of deal with the car dealers they finance for.  I went to a shady dealer and I found out a month later that the sales guy forged my paperwork and paystubs.  He is no longer there. Go figure!  Then I still had 30 day tags on my car and my transmission went out.  When I say went out, it went OUT!!!!. To make matters worse, I had to fight and argue with the manager of the dealership to tow it for free and fix the problem.  After 30 minutes of arguing with him, he finally made arrangements to come get the car.  When the tow guy arrived, he saw that I had 30 day tags and said: WOW! you still have 30 day tags and already need a tow from a failed transmission??  I said yes.  He said well this is your problem right here, and pointed to the name of the dealership on my temporary registration.  When I tried to get dealer compliance at CPS involved being that it was 3 days within purchasing the car, they acted like they were looking into the issue.  NOTHING was done and just a bunch of time wasted.  I had t call dealer compliance at CPS several times and asked them if they could stop payment on the check sent to the dealer and I would return the car.  They gave me a lot of bull and a year later, the transmission is still bad as the "dealer" said they replaced it 3 times.  well, 3 times to replace a transmission equates to not attempting to fix or replace it at all. The last "transmission replacement" I was given a year warranty is now up and yes, the transmission is failing again.  Not to mention $2000 of work to replace the timing belt, water pump, heating element, ect.. I could go on and on.  So now my attitude is they can come get the piece of junk.  They call me as well several times a day.  I don't and will not give them the satisfaction of upsetting me and if anyone wants to go in on a class action suit, I am all ears and ready to make that move.  I am so tired of companies, especially subprime companies capitalizing off of people with challenging or just plain bad credit.  No one should judge as we don't know what someone is going through or what difficult financial challenges has altered their ability to pay.  But in no way does this give any company a meal ticket to treat people in this manner.  WE HAVE TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO PUT A END TO THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR!!

CPS has the most rude, insulting and arrogant callers I have ever delt with in my entire 60 plus year old life! Going thru a divorce and some tuff financial times put me into a high risk car loan. My car dealer got me financed with CPS -"THE NIGHTMARE BEGAN!".

If ever more than three days late on a payment - they go nuts! Phoning 2-3 times a day is the better news. They also phone -  relatives, ex-inlaws, friends, enemies, neighbors and anybody in the phone book with the last same last name.  They even started calling ex-employers; and would phone me at work(when I was employed) and talk with co-workers, supervisors or managers. And they would tell them I was deadbeat and other degrading remarks.

After days of harrassment I would phone them to complain of their tactics and they would hang up on me! Their tactics included but not limited to: he is driving a stolen car, tell him to clean out his car we are going to repo in two hours, go and tell your neighbor(me) that the police are looking for him. They even told my 10yr.grand daughter thay the police were going to arrest me for stealing a car.

The most I have ever been late on a payment was one month. I once told them to come and get the vehicle. The next day they phoned and wanted to know when they could expect payment. During that call the male told me that I was sorry excuse for a living being - and that I deserved to be harrassed for not paying my note on time.

I am sick of this company CPS....They are rude and harassing. Yes I owe a debt and in this crisis I have asked if they could allow me to refinance to lower my payments so I could meet them and they refused to try and work with me to be able to meet the payments.  The company I bought the car through closed and I'm stuck with this foolishness.  I am going to report them to the BBB for harassment..They call me 5 to 6 times a day and I just don't answer their call because it stresses me out.  I am already stressed because I don't want to be late and I don't want to have them call me.  My car was wrecked and I had to get another car, I did not want to because I was struggling already.  I just want this over...I can't sleep its frustrating.  I'm glad we all have each other and its not just one of us going through this.

Ok so, I am having a run in with CPS except, I let my car get repo'd because frankly I couldn't keep up the payments and my bank couldn't help me refinance it. So I just let them come take it, got a letter in the mail stating that they were going to auction off the vehicle to pay off the loan. About a month later, I get my title and loan papers in the mail with PAID on them.

Ok great right? I don't have to put up with the spam calls anymore hurray. Also what was stated on the legal note was that any amount that was over I would receive in the form of a check. We'll I only owed about $4k on the truck and it was worth maybe 6.

Earlier this week I got a check in the mail from them for about a grand. Went to put the check in the bank and guess what the number they give the bank is a fake most likely. My bank tried to call the entire day and kept getting a busy signal. So, if the check doesn't clear, I will be seeking legal counsel and take them to small claims court.

On a side note, they did call once and I answered the phone because I knew it was them and all I did was scream into the phone, HAMBURGERS!!!! then hung up. Hilarious

The same thing happened to me.  They keep telling my mother information for which they are not authorized.  This is illegal as there are these things call PRIVACY LAWS!!!  If no one does anything about it, it will just keep happening.

I don't have a loan with Consumer Portfolio Services, my ex-husband does.  They insist on harassing me via telephone. Then they decided to call my neighbor and leave them a voicemail regarding his car.  When I called they were the most unreasonable group to talk to and felt as though they were entitled to call who ever they want and there was nothing I or my neighbor could do about it.  I REPEAT I DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM, BUT THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH MY PEACE OF MIND.   WHY IS THIS CRAP ALLOWED?

This does help, because I just had a lovely conversation(not!) with a CPS agent named Frankie. We've talked a few times and I was trying to work with them, as I was laid off and just recently(like days ago), got another job. I am 2 and a half months behind. He called, said he was from the repo department and said I had until June 30th to get paid up on April and May. I've already paid the majority of April and still owe for all of May. I kept trying to tell him that I would do my best to come up with the rest of April's payment before next week and pay off May by next Wednesday, and he kept interrupting. He finally said, fine, I'll just have someone come get the car and hung up on me! I called back and left a VM stating that the car is 5 years old, has over 100,000 miles on it and if they repo it and try to come after me for the rest, I'd just declare bankruptcy and they could shove it where the sun don't shine. He called back, started to say "Don't call me again", when I hung up on him. I will be reporting them to the FTC and the BBB, and go from there. Thank you for all of these posts everyone. They've very helpful!

I financed a car with them through a dealership. The finance guy at the dealership said that was the cheapest payment he could get for me because my credit wasn't good. The car was $20,000 and as of June 2010 I have paid $27,715.30. By the time I finish paying for this car I will have paid them $20,000 for car and $14,405.20 in interest for a total of $34,405.20 and that doesn't include the late fees they keep adding to my account. I was a month behind for a short while but I have been paying extra to catch up. -I know that I am now current but I Don't Trust Them!!!! They call me all day and all night! When I had a home phone they would call my home and when I didn't answer they would hang up and call my cell phone. They did this all day long even on Saturday and Sunday!!!! I no longer have a home phone so they constantly call me on my cell phone worrying me about a payment that isn't even due yet. I just ignore their calls. Please let me know if there is a class action law suit, I want to be apart of it!!!!!!!

I am in the same boat as Janito.  I went to try and do a trade in with a local dealership and the trade-in value on my car should have sufficed giver or take $500 on my vehicle, but when the finance department called CPS they tacked on a [***] load of interest and "late fees"..which in my entire 4 years of putting up with their [***] I have been late on a payment maybe a total of 3 times...well needless to say I can not trade my car in as I would be upside down by $3k!!!  When calling CPS to find out which [***] cheek they were pulling this number out of, no one could give me a straight answer or provide adequate documentation.
On another note, the dealership did say that they will no longer sell contracts to CPS due to so much customer complaint and backlash. So..Call your dealerships and complain!  Maybe then NO ONE will do business with them!

Want to STOP them from calling you. Tell them you are recording the calls. No matter what, they are in a 2 party consent to record, but most of us are in a one state consent and they know that. They are already recording the conversation to assure quality service. So.....if you are one state consent, you only have to consent to yourself recording because THEY already informed you they are recording! CLASS ACTION law suit is all it will take to get these [***] out of business....WORK TOGETHER PPL!
