I am a customer of HSBC. I recently started to get calls from the HSBC collection department. At first I thought it was some misunderstanding because my account with HSBC is in good standing. After several calls from them it was clear they are looking for a different person. I explained to them several times that I am not the person they are looking for, and that they need to remove my mobile phone number from the records of that customer.

However, the calls continue. I am disappointed in their level of attention and cooperation with the customer.

    Frustrated Andy
I have a HSBC auto loan, and I have an automatic deduction on the 27th of each month. I have had some difficulties in the past in trying to deal with the customer service reps , and have simply bit my tonque realizing that ultimately it is my responsability to pay the loan, afterall, I did sign the note. However, after my experience last week, I am no longer going to sit on the sideline.
On 5/21 when doing some bills, I realized the payment would not clear my bank on the 27th. This was due to a series of unfortunate events, which happens at some point to all of us. In a nutshell, it was simply because I needed to assist my ederly ( 89 yr old) mother with the purchase of a new ac unit which given her age, was a priority. I have money to pay my bills, and realize I am fortunate in that regard. But due to the cost of the AC unit, the critical need to do ASAP, and the fact I was willing to pay the late fee, I contacted HSBC.
I asked to have the payment changed one time from the 27th to 6/4. The customer service rep was rude ( and although I believe in diversity - was impossible to understand). She was rushed and said ok. I asked for a new confirmation number. Again rude, placed me on hold, came back and gave me a #. On 5/28 the payment went through. I called. Treated like a second class citizen. Was told they had notes of my call, but payment went through by mistake, and I lied to them when I said I would not have the money on the 27th because payment went through. I explained it did, because there was money to cover it, but 3 other items bounced. I was told to fax a bank statement, and when I said I only get that on the 15th, I was told I would have to wait til then, fax, and  they would review and send check if approved in about 6 weeks. What? You can take away but not admit mistake. When I gave them new confirmation number, which they had, it was my old comfirmation number in reverse!!! The rep clearly lied to me. When I asked for a supervisor, I got a unit supervisor who treated me in same way, but further stated I would not get any fees back as that payment did not overdraft - it was the others I wrote that did - and I should not have written those checks. MMMM - I did, because they confirmed the payment change. Asked to speak with another higher up - refused - asked for a complaint number or adress - refused - then hung upon me. I have this all well documented - althoug I am sure on their end anything that would be a mistake is gone.
Help - Does anyone have a number that does not put me in a vicious cycle of select # options, or an agency that could come down on them for their lie. Of course, my checks that were returned will come back, and I doubt all the money will be there to cover. Fortunately, my bank is local, small, and much more competent than HSBC.

Won't get too far smart guy, I don't work for nor have ever worked for HSBC but, it's your responsibility to update your contact information.  The fact that person said you were dead probably only means your account has been seperated momentarily before the appropriate databases can be checked to make sure you are actually alive, at which time they will find your current contact information and resume collection activity.  I will tell you for sure, they won't simply take a third party's word that you have died and that's the end of it.  Please, reply when you get your big check...you never will, actually you will be writing the check because obviously you owe them money.  Even if you don't pay them directly your poor credit will cost you more in the long run.  Good luck.

Pay your bill you dead beat.  Don't over extend yourself. Always have a fall back plan if you lose your job.  Common sense.

If someone owes you money would you call them and ask them for it?  Yes you would.  If it was someone you didn't know and never met, would you call them more?  Yes you would.  If you don't pay your debt, you get contacted and "harassed".

    Somewhere in the USA
I work for HSBC in the USA, in the collections department (but not for much longer thankfully) and I have to say the other two HSBC employees who have posted here are correct in much of what they say but incorrect as well.

There is a difference between the company policy and branding vs the individual employee.  HSBC strives to train their collections rep to be fair, prompt, perceptive, progressive etc with the customers. HSBC as a company wants their employees to help the customers who are in financial crisis and gives the individual collections reps a pretty wide scope of ways we can assist that customer (waiving of fees, hardship programs, etc) however there is a limit, after all no company is in business to lose money.

Most collections reps for HSBC are good people who have been on the other end of the calls and know what it's like to have a collection person call and chew their heads off for money they don't have.  HOWEVER, there is a large handfull of reps who haven't got a clue, think everyone has $20, $40, $100 in their wallet/checking/savings/pocket at all times.  These are the idiots of HSBC.  They do not believe you!!!!!  I DO and I'm one of those reps you people stay on the phone with and get help from or ideas of how to change your situation.  73% of the time (yes we have reports that show these percentages) you the customer and me the collector work out payment arrangments that do bring your account back to current, under the limit and you're happy I was the bill collector that called you.  I know this because you tell me, and I can tell you're smileing as well as releived you won't get any more calls.

Now, you have to admitt if to no one else but yourself that "you put yourself in this situation" not HSBC not the employee of HSBC nor the late fee or the over limit fee or the interest rate all of which show on your monthly statement. Besides, you aren't paying the bill anyway so the fees didn't create your situation.  Calling Customer service and telling them you can't pay your bill, or can't pay all of the minimum but will send a partial payment so please don't put late or over limit fees on my card isn't going to stop any fees from being assessed to your account.  Come on, be reasonable, even the utility company will charge you a late fee.

If you want the calls to stop then talk to the rep, hanging up over and over and over again does nothing.  WE realize your under an enourmous amount of financial pressure and are going to jump thru the phone at us, that's why we keep talking to you so you can get the stress out and then move on to business. We don't take it personally, neither should you.

If you signed up for Debt Management realize they work at turtle speed on your behalf and on rare occassions do nothing for you.  You're not off the hook because you signed up with XYZ Debt management, you still owe the debt and until they get you on a payment program WITH YOUR CREDITOR, PROPOSAL IN OFFICE AND ACCEPTED AND THEY PAY THE AGREED PAYMENT you still are obligated to pay your monthly payment.

President Obama is not going to bail you out, you don't have the funds to support his next election so he doesn't care about you. He cares about the companies that will give him money for 2012.  Stop saying your waiting for your bail out money, IT'S NOT COMING.

Lastly, stop hiding behind your children.  They don't need your financial stress placed on them, they understand Mommy and Daddy are hiding from something when you tell them "say I'm not home" "tell them I'm not available" or you rip the phone away from your child screaming at them "don't talk to those people they aren't our friend" we can hear the fear in your childs voice and the abuse you're verbally giving your kid.  Be an adult, take responsiblity for your financial blooper and show your kids you're stong and can take care of grown up responsiblities.

Many of you are reasonable, but since working for HSBC there are states I will never visit, MA, WV, SC, you're the rudest in MA. NJ don't believe anyone, you guys are the best and I have a blast chatting with each and every one of you, a few of you have invited me for dinner and some of you guys/men even asked me out.  Friendly AZ you must get nothing but sunshine, you guys are always happy.

Be careful when you're talking to that collections rep, it could be a relative, a neighbor or someone you went to high school with.  I know, I've talked to all three and they never new it was me.

For HSBC employees, I have a point to raise. I work for a debt management company, who (as you have stated above about yourselves) help customers lower their repayments and handle their finances. We received a phone call to our office, from a HSBC representative, who told me we had not provided an account number on the correspondence we sent them. Of course in our error, I offered the details over the phone. However, the representative told me that they cannot accept an account number and sort code of the customer as a reference, and require the customer agreement number. They were kind enough to inform us that they would not be processing the customers application until we did.

Of course, in the mean time the customer has been receiving hassling calls and letters & constant penalty charges. I would like to ask the above employees, who seem very established in their knowledge of HSBC's policies, if the above is true?

As surely in order to obtain your customer agreement number, a visit to your local branch would be required, in which case you would have to provide your account number and sort code. I vouch that this is a ploy for a delay, quite opposite your stated kindness and eagerness to help?

If you think that is customer service then Hsbc have truly been crap in training you! I've lost my job and am getting help from a debt company whilst at same time still trying to pay a small amount to Hsbc. They still ring me at least 3 times a day, every day for more money. Their idea of customer service is giving you 3 weeks to pay the balance rather than 2. What a bunch of bankers!!

I have been recieving six to seven calls a day from HSBC. They are calling and asking for my three month old son. I have told them several times to stop calling by still they call all day and night. I put my phone number on their do not call list and regestered on the do not call list website. This is ridiculous.

    Outragged Call Recipient of HSBC
Not sure you could be talking about the same firm here, as everything I have experienced with HSBC concurs with what I have read online. I am not even a customer of HSBC and I officially cleared that the several people from HSBC from their mulitiple phone calls to collect a debt THAT IS NOT. WE DO NOT HAVE THE SAME SS#.  They call at 8:00am on Saturdays and Sundays and all times during the week.  I cannot get them to remove me from the list, although they say they have.  I asked to speak with a manager - I was disconnected.  When I called back, I chose Option 2 for collections - it disconnected me.  I called back, I chose Option 4 for Customer Service -it disconnected me.  What kind of a company is this? How proud are you to be working at such a company?  Maybe you could do something about it!

HSBC are all loansharks and crooks ....

I cancled my hsbc card that i never used. 3 months later hsbc bills me for an annual fee , they report me for unpaid balance for the annual fee i have called them 4 times that my account is closed and the annual fees were supposed to be reversed , the custmer service said that the annual fee would be reveresed and i would have a zero balance. 3 months later they are still billing for the annual fee. i tried to get a financing offer from Best Buy for a $2000.00 purchase but was turned down because HSBC is illegally charging me an annual fee and says i have deliquent account.. i called HSBC and told them they have 2 days to remove the charges after which time i will take legal action and file a law suit for the false illegal charges. Im sure I'm not only one they are trying to milk free money from.

I an also contacting the financial office of Best Buy to let them know that HSBC is costing them 1000's of dollars in lost business every day and should seek another financing partner.

    Hello,

I have registered in the HSBC Do Not Call as well as with my Cellphone company DO Not call Registry.

Recently I observed that we are getting marketing calls using automated system from Delhi Phone numbers like
    +911143183500
    +911143183600
    +911143183400

The calls are generated using automated computerized call system and it just keeps trying you if you cut it and its very annoying.
If we receive the call then it keeps you on hold and then transfer to the operator, they clearly tell that they are calling from the HSBC Bank..
i told them that I am registered with the HSBC DO Not Call Registry and they immediately cut the call but within few day such calls start comming again.

Please get back with why such calls are being made by HSBC..

HSBC SUCKS...they are nothing but a bunch of damn theives...their collections agents are borderline in violation of the laws protecting debtors.  NOBODY should bother wasting their money on paying their HSBC accounts cuz you will NEVER be paid off....all they do is increase your interest rates constantly and never apply any payments to principal.  They should all be tarred and feathered and run over by a convoy of mack trucks.  If I could contact Al Queda or any other militant group, I would pay them what ever I could to have them attack all HSBC offices, whether or not anybody is even working in the offices.  These dregs of society who have no other real skills so they end up working in low life jobs like collections for big companies who pay you, stupid collection idiots, meager salaries and keep the balance for themselves.  No wonder they had to move their practice to India cuz what American, besides a greasy scum ball who thinks he or she knows everything aoubt a person's sitatuation without actually knowing, then insults the debtor it...THOSE F'N PEOPLE ARE nothing but low life loserS who haVE no life, no family, no friends, etc cuz you are all just lowest forns of societies' dregs.  You all deserve to be locked up with the key thrown into the Black Sea. Every single employee that I have spoken to at HSBC has been nothing but down right rude.  I hope this recession bankrupts them, that every single employee loses their joband can't find one until well after their 1 1/2 of unemployment benefits last, AND that they end up living under a bridge in the fridgid winter weather....maybe we'll even get lucky and they will all die of hypothermia.  Anybody who makes an insult to a creditor who has not paid on their account, especially when they've paid $6k on a $10k loan in 2 years, yet somehow still owe the full $10k principal, is a total LOSER.  As I said before HSBC IS NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF LEGAL LOAN SHARKS. I'M GLADE MOST US OFFICES CLOSED AND YOUR FRIENDLY INDIAN, JEREMY JOHNSON, IS HANDLEING YOUR ACCOUNT.  REMEMBER YOUR INDIAN FRIENDS HAVE STOLEN ALL OF YOUR HSBC JOBS...AND YOU DESERVE IT LL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HSB IS NOTHING BUT A CLEVER WAY TO RAPE INDIVIDUALS AND ROB THEM OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY.  I TRULY HOPE YOU ALL LOSE YOUR JOBS AND HALF TO LIVE UNDER THE MOST POLLUTED BRIDGES IN THE COUNTRY, BEGGING FOR FOOD JUST TO SURVIVE, PROSTITUTING YOURSELVES (ALTHOUGH i DOUBT ANY OF YOU WOULD MAKE MUCH MONEY DOING THAT....AS A MATTER OF FACT, I HOPE YOUR ENTIRE FAMILIES, INCLUDING YOUR OFFSPRING OF ALL AGES, END UP LIVING BROKE, UNDER A BRIDGE AND CANNOT AFFORD ANYTHING TO EAT BUT DOG FOOD - CUZ THAT'S ALL ANY OF YOU MF'S DESERVE.  YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF THEIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Prakash,

I too paid HSBC monthly payments of $240 per month for 3 years on a $10k personal loan (as I was told by the rep), which turned out to be a $10k revolving credit at 24.97 interest.  HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU PAID $6K IN TIMELY PAYMENTS ON A LOAN FOR THREE F'N YEARS AND FIND OUT YOU STILL OWE MORE THAN THE ORIGINAL PRINCIPAL BORROWED ($10K).  I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S ASS WHAT ANY OF YOU SAY, HSBC IS AN INCORPORATED LOAN SHARK AND THEY SHOULD BE DRIVEN OUT OF BUSINESS AND SUFFER MAJOR LOSSES.  EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE SHOULD LOSE THEIR JOBS AND THE ATTY GENERAL SHOULD SHUT DOWN THIS ALLEGEDLY LENDING BUSINESS FOR EVER!!!  WHY DON'T YOU STUPID IDIOTS ALL MOVE TO INDIA AND OPEN UP IHSBC.....THAT WAY YOU CAN HAVE CLOSE TO A BILLION PEOPLE TO BEND OVER AND RAPE THEM OF ALL OF THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY...AND WHEN YOU ARE DONE....WHY DON'T YOU ALL MOVE TO CHINA AND WORK YOUR SAME DAMN MAGIC OVER THERE...THIS WAY, THE ENTIRE WORLD WILL IMPLODE!!!!!!
