I recently received a phone call from 1-888-279-9221 and also 1-877-855-4547 that told me I had won a $1000 online shopping spree. All I had to do was answer a few questions; little did I know the questions were about my bank account information. Beware, everyone, if you get a phone call from this number(s). It is a scam. After doing some research on the company, I discovered that they use your bank account information to rob you. The report I read was written by a woman who had the same experience with this company. She was told that she would receive magazines in the mail. She received no magazines but money was still withdrawn from her account.

For those that get a phone call from this number, DO NOT answer.

I just called them back after reading all these complaints and they when They answered they called themselves a completely different company name (m&m something like that) they told me I won a thousand dollar shopping spree and to get that shopping spree they needed my credit/debit card information. I told them I had neither(lie) and the person I was on the phone with promptly hung up on me. so hey ms sue, worker, and employee go [***] yourselves.

    sincerely,

I really THANK everyone for putting their stories. I just received a phone call from the 1-877-855-4549 number so I let it go to my voice mail. The man said he was from Reading America and I did't remember hearing about them. So I thought I would look them up first before I called back and this site popped up. I really thank everyone for letting other people know about this. So I obviously didn't call them back.

hey buddy are you under the age of 18?? If you are tell them you are a minor and they will have no choice but to leave you alone. if they dont, call the FBI FTC and FCC one of them will be able to help you out. Also just ignore the calls and do-not under any circumstances give any of your personal info out over the phone or especially by email, but there actually are smarter people that have software and can find anything out about you they want. also report it to your state Social Security office. good luck

I got a call from this company. During the call I felt things were fishy but i played the game hoping it was true. After I got off the phone I googled the company and came acrossed this forum. I luckily gave them my credit card number not my checking or banking account number. I called and put a block on my card for 7 days. I believe I will end up just cancelling the card and opening a new one. If there is ever a lawsuit please post the attorney's number on this fourm.

I too have the same issues with Read America as everybody else . they refuse to cancell my membership. When i called them to cancell i was told by a worker that they already paid the publishers. Instead they dropped the price when i told them that i could not afford to pay 29.95for 36 months. And would give me until Sept 25 to come up with the money. So i wrote to my state Dept of Consmer Protection and state Attorney General and tomorrow the BBB. I also changed my bank and debit card number due to another scam out of India. That involves a debt collection company that started calling me 2 days after i missed a payment. Makes me wonder if the two are related as they have the same tactics and people with thick accents.

Same story here. Except I like to mess with them and get them pissed off. They start off by saying there's "no catch" and I say really? " no credit reporting enrollment or magazine subscriptions?" then they say "well actually there are 6 magazines you will be receiving for $3.50 a month" I say well that sounds like a catch, and they say it's an Offer. I eventually go off the this [***] saying he's a piece of [***] scammer cakarouch and that is a catch. Looks like they have been doing this for a while. Why haven't they been stopped yet?

    Scammers go to hell!
I say we all call them repeatedly as much as we can to tie up their phone lines and piss them off to no extent. As long as you don't agree to anything or give out any accurate information you'll be safe. Just keep calling and play games with them, it's fun!  For example, when they ask me how old I am I say 153. And when they ask what hobbies I do I say moon walking ect. When I do it it makes them mad and I just laugh and cuss at them and I love it. [***] YOU READING AMERICA!

I had a pop up while on my computer about winning a new ipad2 and i clicked the site. Space ask for name, e-mail, cell no and DOB. I did not give out DOB. This site went to another site so I got scared and left the site. Later in the day a cell number 919-249-0373 left a message on my phone. The message was from Reading America with good news for me and gave a claim number. I did not return the call because I felt it was a scam. Do I need to worry about any problems with them stealing from accounts if I did not speak to them or give any other information to them?
