Baggage lost and found
Complaint

I travelled on Turkish Airlines on 21st November and my baggage on Arrival at New Delhi on 22nd November 2009 was found to be missing. There after several follow-ups I was confirmed on 27th November that my baggage has been lost and you may please file a baggage lost claim with us and there after a claim was filed on 07th December'2009. during this period I had purchased many of my clothings and personal belongings due to this lost, however after several confirmation that the baggage is lost and the claim is in process - however I have still received a comment in Feb that the baggage is traced and again the customer care was silent for a month for delivering the bag there after in March they confirmed that they are still searching the bag and finally on 15th March the was found and delivered to me. During all these delay it is not possible to for me to not buy clothings and accessories of my regular requirement as it was confirmed that the bag is lost - so I had re-invest close to USD 2500 for my personal goods and now the customer care in Delhi confirmed that the maximum compensation will be USD 300 only, also as desired I have submitted all the bills of my purchase and still there is no positive response from their side which is surprising for me. I always travel through Turkish Airlines and this is my worst experience of travel and makes me to think before travelling next time.

If I contact the baggage tracking service in Istanbul they will do nothing until they have the same information that my daughter filed in her report.
This is absolutely the worst airline experience our family has ever had and we have traveled on many different airlines.
Despite the cheap prices, I highly recommend that people do not travel on Turkish Airlines.
I travelled with since they had a ticket aivalable and I needed it to get to a wedding (highseason). They lost my baggage with the value of over 5000 Euro and after months of silence they have offered me 800 USD which equels to 578 Euro!!!!
Luckely my lawyer did a research and told me we can win this case so I am going to sue them.
For people who read this before travelling with Turkish Airlines; DON'T DO IT!!
Here~s my story, I am America and my husband Sri Lankan. On April 30th my husband and I took a flight from Sao Paulo to Incheon via Istambul with Turkish Airlines. My ticket number was 2352449868583 and his ticket was 235244986584. Upon arrival the Incheon Immigration decided to not accept my husbands entry into the country and he was sent back with Turkish Airlines because Turkish Air would not allow him to fly a different carrier. He went back to Istambul and then Sao Paulo on the 6th of April (after 4 days of being held hostage with no food or shower in Incheon) with ticket number 235240120718671 that I purchased for him to Singapure. One of my bags was missing when I arrived at Incheon Baggage Claim so I filed a Lost Bag claim and no number was given to me. They just said they would call me to return the bag within 24 hours. That call never came. On the 6th I went personally to the airport and found that my bag had been sent to Istambul and would arrive with my husband in Sri Lanka, his country of origin. So I stopped worriying about the bag as it was en route to my home. On the 8th, after another two days held hostage at Istambul airport and after many calls from myself and both the American Embassy and SriLankan Embassy Turkish Airlines flew my husband to Sao Paulo but not provide him with a boarding pass... He stayed in Sao Paulo three days until a family member who happens to be a senator in Brasil convinced the Airline to let him go to his final destination. He was forced to purchase a ticket from Sao Paulo to Istambul. The ticket number 2352449979877. In Brasil Turkish Airlines people advised him again that all three bags were in Istambul and would follow him to Singapure and then he could there claim them. Upon arrival in Istambul he asked again about his bags and the personnel at the airport confirmed the bags location as Istambul and advised him they would transfer the bags to his flight to Singapure. He flew from Istambul to Singapure on the 13th of April with ticket number 2352401285369 but when he arrived in Singapure none of his bags arrived with him. He could not file a claim begause the tags for the bags were not attached to his ticket as it is the normal thing to do. He also doesnt speak English well and had another flight in just two hours so he could not stay arguing with Turkish Air about the wheareabouts of his luggage. He flew to Colombo with no bags whatsoever. The tag numbers for the bags upon arrival in Incheon are as follows... 0235361727 and 0235361780 I dont have the third number because the airline took his boarding ticket and did not return. I only asked for these bags back, but it has been 18 days and numerous unanswered emails and phone calls. These bags contain memories of our honeymoon in Brazil, various clothing items, books, gifts, documents, and one of the bags has ALL of my shoes... I must have them back.
We believe the bags are in Istambul and the tags may have been changed. One wheeled suitcase has a pink name tag on it with my name and address on the USA. It is medium size and dark blue with two pockets in the front. Another is a carryon hard body black suitcase with no pockets and a white line drawn on the side. The third bag is a green and black gym bag with ALL of my shoes in it.
I have more complaints about this airline, from the bad service to dirty seats on the airplane to the rudeness of their flight staff. Its incredible how terrible this airline is. I would rather take a bus in the Bolivian Death Road than go back on one of their planes or deal with their people. DO NOT EVER fligh with them. NOT worth the headaches, I want to sue them.

Also in Istanbul International airport (IST), the (international) baggage pickup area is not secured as anyone inside can come and pick up anyone's baggage and walk out (to the outside) which is about 10-20 meters away (or 30-50 feet away). There is no armed guard next to this area.
In all international airports as I have gone, there is first the gate for Immigration and Visa, then the area of baggage pickup, then customs to check one's baggage (with big X-ray machines, etc.) with armed guard/security officers in all these areas. But not in Istanbul airport, you went through visa, to pick up your baggage, and you walk out to outside. There is no customs to check your baggage.
Leaving Frankfurt they were delayed for 2 hours because of the weather. Upon arriving in Istanbul she and a fellow passenger were taken directly by ground staff to her connection flight bound for South Africa. She arrived 1 hour late in Cape Town without her suitcase.
She has a lot of her school books in it and 6 months of work
in it that she has completed.. She just cannot afford not to get those back. and most of her winter clothes.
