I travelled on Turkish Airlines on 21st November and my baggage on Arrival at New Delhi on 22nd November 2009 was found to be missing. There after several follow-ups I was confirmed on 27th November that my baggage has been lost and you may please file a baggage lost claim with us and there after a claim was filed on 07th December'2009. during this period I had purchased many of my clothings and personal belongings due to this lost, however after several confirmation that the baggage is lost and the claim is in process -   however I have still received a comment in Feb that the baggage is traced and again the customer care was silent for a month for delivering the bag there after in March they confirmed that they are still searching the bag and finally on 15th March the was found and delivered to me. During all these delay it is not possible to for me to not buy clothings and accessories of my regular requirement as it was confirmed that the bag is lost - so I had re-invest close to USD 2500 for my personal goods and now the customer care in Delhi confirmed that the maximum compensation will be USD 300 only, also as desired I have submitted all the bills of my purchase and still there is no positive response from their side which is surprising for me. I always travel through Turkish Airlines and this is my worst experience of travel and makes me to think before travelling next time.
Hope to receive some reply from your side

On the 6th January I traveled from Istanbul to Erbil, Kurdistan. Upon my arrival both my bags were missing despite the flight being completely empty. The next day I received a call that my bags had arrived in Erbil. I went to collect them at Erbil International airport only to discover that only 1 bag had arrived and it was completely destroyed. The bag still missing contained most of my clothing and other important contents in order for me to conduct my business in Erbil. I called Turkish Airlines in Istanbul and had an extremely difficult time trying to firstly hear the agent on the other side of the line (sounded like the call was being placed from the bottom of a fish bowl)and the agents English was very poor. They were unable to assist me despite me giving them all the required information (tag numbers, flight numbers, boarding pass etc.) The contents of my luggage is probably worth more than US$ 3000 and some of the clothing was bought on my trips the the USA and can not be replaced. Today again I called Erbil airport to see if my bag had arrived but still nothing. In Istanbul I saw a pile of luggage scattered all over the place, some bags spilling their contents and I still remember thinking, thank goodness that's not my baggage, boy was that short lived. I saw on BBC and interview with the CEO of the company and he was telling the interviewer how great his company was and how they offered world class service. I think he needs to be re-interviewed and questioned about his companies poor service and how many of his customers have lost bags. I have visited various sites to express my anger about their service and was shocked to see how many other passengers have experienced the same thing. At Erbil airport they have a room full of lost and damaged bags and when you submit your claim via email you receive an automated response stating "***This is an Automated response***
    Dear Sir/Madam,
We acknowledge receipt of your message and thank you very much for taking time to contact us.
We will study your request and due to high volumes will reply to you as soon as possible.

The message clearly reveals that they have a high volumes of lost baggage. Perhaps BBC should look into this and use this information when they next interview the CEO. I am taking this very personally and will stop at nothing to expose this airlines atrocious service. I urge all customers of Turkish airlines who have experienced the same sort of treatment to visit blog sites and social media sites to expose the poor service they are giving. I have no idea how they could have been voted Europe's  best airline. Perhaps best airline in the category "Worst Airline in Europe"

You just said everything I have wanted to! Every piece of your info is true, although it really is an unbelievable story! They lost my bag, and another 12000 bags as of 3 feb 2012, and they started lining them all at the baggage claim so people can find it themselves (what the..!?). If you see 3 of these pieces you will laugh, as they would have been from different destinations! How can they get things that messy? I was not even flying with them, only there to pick up a friend, so how do i know what its like inside? because I got to just walk in. and its also ture no one is checking who takes what out of the gate. NEVER again!

      Hi :-)
What are you saying? That hundreds of suitcases are just standing at the baggage claim, waiting somebody to recognize and pick them? I have a missing suitcase for 8 days now and this sounds very disturbing...

My mother traveled from Dubai via Istanbul to Belgrade, Serbia on 5th of December, 2011. They lost her giant suitcase with contents worth over 5500 USD. Anyway, on 10th of January 2012., after they officially declared that the baggage is lost, we sent them the list of lost stuff that was in the suitcase and its value. They said that 30 days is the MAXIMUM time to wait for the refund. Well, from 10th of January until today is pretty much more than 30 days and still nothing from them. Agents in office at the airport keeps saying, call us tomorrow, for the past 15 days. Her boss doesn't answer the phone, in the central office in Belgrade from which they make payments for lost baggage, they don't have our files and that they don't know anything about it and that we should call airport office.

Don't know what to do anymore, but we are surely calling our lawyer!
