Harassing Phone Calls

Complaint

We have been receiving unwanted phone calls from Northland Group since 5/18/2007. They call from 1-866-380-8783 every day and ask for a person whose name I've never heard before.

It seems as someone used our address and phone number in their loan application, and Northland Group is trying to collect the debt.

For some reason people from Northland Group refuse to believe that the person they are looking for is not leaving with us, and continue their harassing calls.

I submitted my complaint to FTC, but I thought I should also let know here about this issue.

If all of you are serious about getting rid of or ending their calls there is a way..You can speak clearly and politely to these people and tell them whats going on.Because remember they are people and most of you dont treat them that way.And if you are the right person they are looking for more than likely you owe that debt and just either have neglected or forgotten about it.Hence why most americans are in debt. And to the person who says I called so and so and they dont know anyhting about it.Well more than likely its such an old, and negligent account that its been sold to another company thus why they dont know anything about it.Just thought I would help out some of you.So you can either take my advice and do something about it or just keep your complaining and nagging(which is why some of you come on here anyway)..Have a great day!

These people have been calling once in a while for a long time now. I used to speak to them and tell them that the information they have is wrong, but they would get rude, and argue with me, and I would just get all bent out of shape about it. Once they even called my mother and she called me and complained to me about it!!! That angered me so much. I ended up calming down and just stopped answering my phone for numbers that I didn't recognize. The calls stopped for a while after this, but I just made the mistake of answering the phone for one of their calls a few minutes ago and I feel the angry monster reawakening inside of me. I fear what I might do if I ever encountered anyone that I found out worked for the Northland group out in the real world! Someone really needs to stop this company!!!

    A big FU to Nortland
I saw that this company did a hard pull on my credit file. It took a while but finally it has been deleted. When they call you write them a Cease and Desist letter for them to stop calling you. Send it via USPS with delivery confirmation so that they know you mean business. If you do own a old debt ask them to prove it is yours. "NEVER GIVE THEM ANY CHECKING OR CREDIT ACCOUNT INFO, NEVER SPEAK TO THEM, AND NEVER SIGN ANYTHING WHEN YOU SEND IT"

we are having the same problems with them. They just don't get the point of you saying that someone doesn't live there and that you have never heard of anyone by that name. How can they sleep at night doing what they do?

what education ?  they dont have an education and that's why they are telephone scammers.
when someone breaks the law they are called criminals. which is exactly what these people
are. they call many, many people after being told to stop calling. under the fair debt collection
practices act --it says if you tell a collector to stop calling that they have to stop.
they dont stop though. they break the law, federal law. people who break the law are criminals.

these collection agency employee's are criminals.

who is crazy enough to give your money to criminals like these''

Before I share my story with you I will tell you this. If you do want to record any phone conversation 95% of the cell phones out there today have a button on the side with a little microphone. Hold down the button during a call and it will record it and save it under sounds. My phone records 5 minutes at a time then I need to hit it again. Also... It only records the person on the other line.

I got into it with Mark Summerville from Northland Group today. He has called my parents, my dads business, my grandparents, and my neighbors looking for me. He is a scumbag low life.. After I cursed him about for a good 15 min he hung up on me. I then hit *67 and his number and redialed it for an hour straight and would hang up when they would answer. It really started pissing some people off at Northland. An hour into my calling escapapade I got a call from a sherrifs department in NC saying Northland was complaining I was harrassing them!!!! That was enough to make me lose it. I told them I don't even live in NC and they said sorry for wasting my time. I continued my calling until I finally got Mark on the phone again. I  acted like I was crying because of the pressure he put on me (faking of course) and all of a sudden he began apologizing and asking if I was ok. I told him I couldn't take the pressure anymore and was contemplating suicide. He asked if I was serious. I told him yes and I went in the back yard and shot my .38 into the ground and did't say a word. Dogs were barking and going crazy. I put the phone up to my ear and he says "[***]!" and hung up! I'll let you know if the calls stop coming tomorrow..

These scumbags are absolutely relentless.  Calling at least 4 times a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at dinner time.  I have caller ID and when I see their number my fax machine picks up after the third ring and squeels like hell in their ear.  Hey, it's their dime.  Let them keep calling and listening to my FAX!!  I refuse to talk to such garbage!!!

I rec'd a letter from these idiots today, trying to collect on an old gym membership (ballys of course) from 17 years ago. First of all, Ballys made a living by getting young people like I was then to sign a contract they could not ever afford and likely would never use. I signed a contract for $1500 and never went to the gym! I paid on it for a year because I did not want to ruin my credit and then finally stopped. Ballys would not let me out of my contract though I never used it, not once.
Fast forward 17 years. I am now in my mid 30's with a credit score of over 750. I am VERY well versed on the FCRA. Thats right Northland, FAIR Credit Reporting Act. The statute of limitations on this debt expires TEN years ago, so you will be hard pressed to get a phone call or a dime from me. They also can't report it to the credit bureau! They think they can use scare tactics to get people to pay very old or bad debts.
Like someone else said, NEVER respond.

I get about 4 calls a day. Got one last Friday night and I morphed into an old Chinese woman. The girl on the other end started screaming at me to put someone else on the phone. She finally hung up. These folks are great for honing your comedic skills. So call me again.....maybe you`ll get the Pirate or the English snob or the backwoods Redneck or the old Woman who can`t hear right or the classic New York drunk, as Jimmy Durante once said " I gat a million of `em. If I`m not in the mood I let it go to the message or pick up and let them have a blast of the`Ol High C note on my Blues Harp.

all you have to say is "wrong number, please remove my number."

most of the time when people hear the wrong name they ask fifty questions about who we are and why we want to talk to that person and where we were calling from and why we are calling and all that needs be said is "sorry, wrong number. please mark it bad". asking fifty questions is what people do when they are screening for collectors, pretending not to be who we are trying to collect debt from. if you aren't rude, they have no need to be. if they are, call back and talk to a supervisor.

yeah , the only thing these complaints leave out is the fact that  all the 'victims of so called harassment' are harassing us by swearing at us for something that is a clerical error. most people if they get just two calls that are the wrong number or even in efforts to skiptrace, on average, tend to become irate , overreact, and become vulgar. if you want someon to match your tone, you'll get it. collectors get lied to hung up on and cussed out ALL DAY LONG. just for doing their job. granted some of them are idiots. but you're gonna fins idiots everywhere in every profession!

actually when a company sells your debt to a company like that, they sell everything. all the data. all the files. rights. thats why they dont have your info buddy. you can see it too if you only request it in writing. but your too busy crying on a message board to look that up huh?

Could you please let me know of the name of that software on your computer that blocks phone numbers.  It would be greatly appreaciated.  I too have had phone calls about a debt from many years ago that had already been resolved (over 8 years ago).  These people are rude.  I checked on it and I don't owe anything yet these people will not believe it.  I also looked up zombie debt and what a mess.  I can't believe it is legal for a company to sell all your personal information over and over again. I don't always understand those confidentiality agreements that people give you, I guess that is why I haven't used credit cards in many many years.

haha I just got a call from them about a debt owed 10 years ago and has already been taken care of. these people ... ha they make me laugh. and i was so very nice with them and asked them to not call me for something that was already taken care of and he seemed not to understand. He's like well it shows here you still owe blah blah blah... we'll see if they call tomorrow. If so, I'm totally going up the chain of command. Definitely! What is it that dumbass people don't understand when you say IT'S BEEN DELT WITH? I don't know.. maybe I'm the dumbass haha. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

I have been receiving calls from Northland since November 2007.  They are looking for someone I don't Know.  We acquired our phone number in June 2006, and I don't intend on changing it because of them.  I too am going to file a complaint with the FCC.  I started recording every conversion.

I just started receiving calls from this company and because I didn't recognise the number, didn't answer the call.  I just now looked up the company here on this page.  All your comments were enlightening, to say the least.
We, as comsumers, know when we owe money.  Most of us would pay our debts, if we could.  Phoning and harrassing us just make the stress worse, possibly causing health problems, death (?)
I just composed a letter and am sending it certified.  Whatever debt they've found I owe, if I owe, will be sent directly to the original creditor.  They can then harrass them to get paid.  Done it before, and will do it again. Worked for me.
