Harassing Phone Calls

Complaint

We have been receiving unwanted phone calls from Northland Group since 5/18/2007. They call from 1-866-380-8783 every day and ask for a person whose name I've never heard before.

It seems as someone used our address and phone number in their loan application, and Northland Group is trying to collect the debt.

For some reason people from Northland Group refuse to believe that the person they are looking for is not leaving with us, and continue their harassing calls.

I submitted my complaint to FTC, but I thought I should also let know here about this issue.

NORTHLAND GROUP is calling and harrassing me for a bill I do not owe!
We have had a Shell Oil Card for years and have not used it for years!  All of a sudden we are being charged for a membership to some group we never signed up for.  I called Shell and they supposedly removed it from our bill.  The next thing I know I am hearing from NORTHLAND.  CONSTANTLY!!  I have called Shell, I have called the group that placed the charge.  I have talked to NORTHLAND. The next call is going to be to my LAWYER.  I think I can get my phone bills reimbursed and something for my suffering from the harrassment from NORTHLAND!

I wonder what kind of an education a DEBT COLLECTOR has to have?
Also, wonder what the average credit score is for a debt collector?

I have a degree, Make $80,000.00 a year and have a 750 Beacon score. I am proud to be a collector and have been for over 20 years. If you would try to resolve you debts instead of trying to hide or beat creditors out of their money we would not have the intrest rates we do today.

I am sure you are an amazing and intelligent person;  and you deserve every penny of the 80K you make. The fact is, you are a bottom feeder. For  every legitmate debt that you try to collect on; there are 10 that are out of compliance. Sure it is LEGAL, but do you feel that it is moral to call someone's elderly parents for an $80 store credit card that there active miltary son forgot about? Shame on him during his 5 forward deployments. He is not worthy to be in your 750 Beacon Score presence.
Since you are such a brilliant and proud member of the debt collection scumbag group; maybe you can explain the numerous lawsuits filed and won against you and your fellow 80kers? I am sure that these are all just disgrunteld people trying to get out of paying debts, right?
If you have done this for 20 years, you are a miserable person with absolutely no soul.
Enjoy your day, and spennding your 80K.
By the way, if you work somewhere for 20 years and only make 80K..... well nevermind; you are doing such wonderful work. Look forward to you calling me again soon. The meter is running at $1000 a pop.

      Pay attention  PCHANCE ___

I purchased a home almost 2 years ago which is piad off now after I sold my old home.
Applying for the loan my credit score came back as , 824 on one credit bureau, 827 on one, and 828 on the other if I'm not mistaken. { might be one or two points off but so what ]
I don't owe anyone anything now or in the past. My home is paid for and both vehicles are paid for.

You tell me where the  h e l l   a collection agency that's been calling my home has the right to harass me ??
      Tell me you idiot .
I've told them I own no one. I live alone. My credit is excellent.
No, collection agencies are scum. You must be scum from the way you comment on here.
I'm in the process of collecting evidence on the collection agency that's calling me.
My telephone company was served a court order by my attorney to set up call logging on my telephone number. Like my attorney said, $ 1000.00 each violation: let the scum call all they want.
They were sent cease and desist letters from both myself and my attorney; which were sent by U.S. Mail Certified Return Receipt Requested.
Correction above ( as I'm not sure how to edit my posting here )

My attorney sent the cease and desist letter he mailed , by U.S. Registered Mail, Return Receipt.

So dear, collection agencies are scum. They hire scum that can't get a job anywhere else.

Good Luck to you and your so called life

Concerning the “bill” NORTHLAND keeps trying to “collect”.  This was never owed.  It was applied to my Shell account without my consent.  The company that applied it actually credited it. The $10.00 balance is possibly “late fees” for not paying a bill I didn’t owe.  $10.00 is basically a drop of sweat on my back but if the balance were 10 cents, I would not pay a bill I don’t owe.  Actually, there is no balance as Shell Oil has credited $10.00.  I really don’t think they would do that if “I OWED”…I looked at the website for this company NORTHLAND.  They get a base pay plus 20% commission.  That is a pretty good commission rate!!  Especially for UNEDUCATED BULLIES!  This company is parasitic in nature and obviously their employees are desperate. Sad that some people may actually pay debts they don't even owe because of the tactics this company uses.  I happen to be one that does not scare easily. Plus, I keep good records and files.

    Blow it out your ass.

I'm not concerned about your pissant credit score, I have no problem paying off my own personal debts, I'm much more concerned about getting these ratass collection [***] off my rear end WHEN THEY TRY TO COLLECT FOR PEOPLE THAT I DON'T KNOW, HAVE NEVER LIVED HERE, and I AM NOT RELATED TO.

That's the word of the day, porkchop, and your poor behavior on the phone when I try to tell the story is your fault.  How many times do your ilk have to be told the same thing before they get it through their thick, bony skulls?

HELLBENT---If people are calling your house and its a wrong number it could  be the fault of the "ratass" person they are looking for... seriously, they are collectors, in that industry time is money, they dont want to waste their time on some wrong number. What you people aren't aware of it that credit bureau report not only report people's credit but also any address they have ever lived at and any phone number they have ever had... so if you recieve calls from them and they are looking for someone who is not there that is probably the case, you should direct your anger at the deadbeats that arent paying their bills and are trying to hide from their problems instead of being honest and paying back what they owe. Furthermore, if the collector that calls doesnt believe that it is a wrong number it is because 99.9% of debtors LIE and say its a wrong number because they think it will stop the collections process. If it is such a burden to tell someone they have a wrong number then disconnect your phone!!!
kat---- What's rude is people like you hindering the collection process. Obviously you are trying to hide something if you don't want to confirm your identity. Why don't you look into the collections process-- they cannot talk to you unless you confirm who you are. IT'S FEDERAL LAW- [***] at the government for it!
pdheartmom--- Do you not understand? The collection agency is the messanger. Be mad at the original creditor. Do you think the account just downloads itself into the collectors database? NO! your creditor pays money to have a collection agency call you. If you never charged on the card you wouldn't have a bill and if there is a mistake it is the original creditors fault. Not the company they contract to collect it. And don't think that every collection agency purchases your debt. Northland Group is a third party collection agency so there is no benifit to them to screw you out of money. They just hold up their end of a contract with the client that they are working for. If the client says you owe the money than they try to collect it.

I do not owe anyone one red cent !

What makes you think it's ok for some stranger to call my home asking me highly personal questions , such as birthdate, s.s. number or last 4 digits of my s.s. number, where I work, etc

      Now tell everyone here _____

      Your one deluded  f__ke_ !

Absolutely nothing gives anyone the right to call some innocent person on the phone and demand/ask
for their personal info. NOT EVEN THEIR NAME !

PATTI- You're an idiot. No collection agencies post how much commission they offer on their website. Do you think they would make that public knowlege for even their debtors to see. NO!! It's bad buisness. And FYI a collectors base pay can't even pay a mortgage and car payment so they rely on honest people to pay their bills. If this is an error and you don't owe the bill be upset with the creditor that sent it to collections. Collectors are normal people who have normal lives like the rest of the world. The only difference between you and them is they are sworn at on a daily basis, are told they are scum ect. It is sometimes obscene, racial or even pornographic. All that over a bill that someone doesn't want to pay. COME ON PEOPLE!!! Who are the real bad guys? THE THEIVES AND LIARS. If someone stole money from you and then when you called them to try to get it back would you be happy if they refused to pay or cussed you out? DUH. It doesn't take a brain. Yes, there is occasionally a bad apple- that is the case with everyone. But alot of collectors are just trying to make a living.

I have been receiving such calls. 2 and 3 times a day. I have sought legal council. They refuse to believe they have the wrong number. I tried to refer them to my lawyer just as he told me to do and before I could give them his full name and number they hung up on me. They are still calling. It is harrassment and highly illegal.
I don't have money for a lawyer, but he is seeking all the money for his payment be paid by them. he is obviously confident that we will win because i have not had to give him a dime. Yes, he will get paid by them and most of anything I win....but...they will stop and it will satisfy me that they got busted. They are very rude people. I don't know how they can go home each night and still have a conscience! Maybe they don't?

    Been there, done that!
I have sued the Northland group. Not once, but twice. The first time I didn't get anything out of it other than satisfaction. It was harrassment and they got fined huge. This last time was for the same issue. Apparently my name and number where still in their system even after they were sued. I filed bankruptcy on them and when they phoned again, my lawyer took them for 3700. all of which I got to put back into my pocket.

Now...you want to tell me about them being EDUCATED and call other people stupid, or idiots? Dream on...

    Are you kidding me?
Stealing money? It isn't money out of a collectors pocket. They sure act like it is though. And if you do owe a bill, they treat you like you are garbage or dog poo on the bottom of your shoe. Most people don't get pissed when they actually owe a debt and they get a call on it. Most people get pissed when the jack ass on the other line reads from a script and refuses to listen to the person who actually owes the debt. Talk about the golden rule...get over it. It is quite obvious that you came here looking for the drama that you so love...after all isn't that why you are a debt collecter "common sense"...yeah right...change your name. Act accordingly and professional on the phone when you call us and we will treat you with the same respect you grant us. And you call others an idiot. What a fool.

PCHANCE,question for you.Do any of the deadbeats ever get forced to pay up.I have received calls from many collectors looking for my ex of many yrs.Of course they don't give alot of info. But I'm tired of getting these calls,in fact it is costing me money. My calls get transferred frommy home to my cell,if I dont answer ,I must use time from my plan to listen and delete .Sometimes 2-3 x a day.It gets real old. They have been looking for ex for over 2 yrs.At what point are the deadbeats MADE to pay.I live in Fl.and understand its hard to make them pay.Id like to hear from you what the process is.The ex has had more than 1 credit card company bring court cases, lost one by default another was ordered a judgement, but still hasn't paid.I know a coupe friends that play games with credit card debt and this nonsense is why it costs the good guys money.I appreciate a reply. Thanks

I just called Northland Group and they are a bunch of jerks - very defensive and laughed at me when I told them they can be fined for harrassment. I was put on hold, so I hung up, called again and asked to have my number taken off their list. I talked to a representative who tried to make it sound like them calling me was a simple wrong number. When I explained that they've been calling several times a day and always hang up/don't leave a message, the guy got defensive. Also, when I asked if they were a collection agency, he asked me, "Why do you want to know?" Idiots!

Anyway, I gave them my number and was told they'd take me off the list. I also asked them who they were calling for and told them there was not only no one here by that name, but no one in the family has that name.

We'll see if they actually follow through and stop calling ....

    Enlightened
Thank God for Google that I found this site after receiving a call from some guy I could not understand asking me if I was so and so and was I born in this year. I said yes I was and why was he asking if I was born that year. He asked me again if it was me and if I was born that year. I asked him who he was and he told me he was calling from garble garble. Again he asked the question. I asked him where are you calling from? Garble garble. He kept asking me to verify my birthday. I told him that was personal information and to tell me why HE was calling ME and wanting me to disclose my personal info. He said then I just wont talk to you and hung up.
I redialed and a woman answered. I explained to her what had happened. She told me the name of the company was Northland Group. She asked my name. I told her. She wanted me to give her my birthday. I refused because I know better than to give unsolicited phone callers my personal info. She told me that it was a personal matter and they have laws to follow and they cant give me any information unless I give them my birthday and if not then we will not continue this conversation. I said fine, if you have my personal info then I prefer you to send me something in the mail so that I can verify who YOU are. She hung up on me.
I have dealt with bill collectors before but this was a new one on me. Funny thing is, I actually dont owe anyone!
I will keep a log and recall the do not call register.

    new to this
Got a phone call and answered and they asked for a woman and I said who is this?  Teresa?  I asked where are you from?  Northland Group but she ran the words together so fast I had to ask again.  She then said you must be this woman and I said no but it is usually customary to give out the name of the company you are calling from.  She asked if this person lived her and I said no and she hung up on me.  She was very rude and I have not had this phone number long enough for anyone to know it.
