This is the second year I have used this pool. It has been nothing but a big
pain. The filter is too small for the pool size and has to be cleaned every
day. This is not an easy task and is not user friendly. The plunger valve
assembly which turns off the water from the pool to the pump broke and the company is out of stock for the part. This makes it even more difficult to clean the filter and screen in the pump. And the parts department was not very helpful when I called to find out when the part would be available and what I was supposed to do in the meantime.

i've had mine for 4 years now. we took it down the first year, but now we leave it out all winter. the problem i have had is the top ring. i find a new hole to patch each year. how can i keep the top ring 'up'?
i take the filter in over the winter and still the cover has cracked and the fins break off. where so i buy a new cover?
i can say for the money, it has been o.k.
i have no problem with the quality of the water, it just takes time.

This is the 2nd 18 x 48 pool in 4 years.  It seems like every two years we have to get another one because the inflated ring in the top starts to get holes in it all over and deflates.  We have tried patches and they hold for a while, but not for another season.   We have no problems with parts or pumps, just the ring on top.  The kids are going into the pool on the ladder, so we have no idea how this is happening or how to prevent it.  We are on our 2nd year of this pool and once again it has holes in the ring and we are patching to hold out for the rest of the summer.  Anyone else have this problem?

I just bought the 18' by 42" Sun and Sand pool at Walmart. Where did you folks find the DVD and instructions for the pool set up in the box? I sure can't find mine. I probably won't need them but it said on the box you are supposed to get a DVD and I just can't find it.

I hope I have good luck with my pool like most of you folks had.

We have had 3 types of these pools for about 8 years now.  We started out with a 12 x36 pool. then moved to 15 x 42 and now we have had a 18 x 48 pool for last 3 years.  I have found that the larger the pool, the easier it is to actually set up and maintain.  When we had the 12 x 36, water quality would fluctuate so fast it would make your head spin.  with our 18 x 48 pool, water quality is mroe consistent.  also, i found that set up and poll stability is better with larger pool.  Seems like the sheer weight of the 18 x 48 pool helps keepo it more level.  also, we mow the grass very low in the area where we set up pool every year.  Furthermore, the kids walk around in center of pool as water is filling so I think this helps keep pool more round.  al in all, we r quite happy with our pool. for the money, it can't be beat.  We only paid $300 for our current pool at Wal Mart.  I agree that the pumps they supply with the pool are too small.  The pump that came with pool was not pumping water.  couldn't get it to prime.  We called customer service and complained about the origianl pump for this pool.  After some griping on our part, they sent us the next pump size up.  After that, it worked very well.  We don't have the money either for a "real" above ground pool.  Even with all issues, we have found them to be worht the money.  I think next year I am switching to a saltwater system due to cost and difficulty of using chlorine.

This pool is a joke after one year the the ring will not stay full of air twice a day I have to fill it with air. Now I have a water leak that can not be found.

Yah, well, we have had 2...in a two week span.  Finally get it up and get a foot of water in (18X4 ft) and there was a leak...from the seam.  Drained, took it down (big pain) and took it back.  Replaced w/ a new one....SAME THING...Found out it was like the 6th one returned in 3 days for the very same problem!  We never had a pool this summer....because they are faulty!  Just waisted ALOT of time.....And yes, when called the company...they were on back order!  WHATEVER...They are defective!

First of all let me say that the pool frame and liner of my Intex pool have been very good. This is the fourth summer we have had our pool. I wish I could give the same review about the Intex pumps! Four years of enjoying our pool and its been four times I've had to purchase a new pump and every one of them have had broken impellers. Which happens to be about the only part that is not sold for replacement. I purchased a new 635 pump at the beginning of this summer and I'm sad to report its broke! I am very upset about it. It is the weekend and I have a yard full of kids wanting to swim and there is nobody that can help me! I will be sending this broken pump back for a new one...will post the outcome.

I can not keep the water in mine from clouding either. Hope some one has the answer.I don't believe the pump is large enough for the pool. I have the 18' round. To buy the larger pump (2500) would cost almost as much as the pool.

I hve had my sand & sun for 5 yrs and I have never had a problem with it until this year. The top blue ring is very tacky. I don't know how to clean it to put it away. I have tried degreaser and that didn't even touch it. Can someone help me with this problem.

I have had my 18' by 48" pool for three years now, and have not major problems, when I needed to order to O rings for the pump got them fast. Would I buy another on of these, probably not, as it is getting harder each year to put up and down. Wish you could just drain them, cover them for the winter and then just refill for the summer, lot less work

We have purchased 2 pools in the past 2 years. We have had trouble with the pumps not being strong enough for the size pool and going bad before the summer was up.  We think Intex wants you to have problems with them, so you will buy another pool every summer. They should be turned into the better business bureau. We definately don't recommend buying one to anyone.

We bought the 18x4 five years ago..We love it so much that when they went on sale this year I bought another one....I only hope to get the same service from this one. I did see that this one has a smaller filter pump, which I don't think I will like, I will probably use the one from our old one. The old one is starting to see wear, a few holes in top ring from not storing properly, and yes we have replaced hoses a couple of times.I have been able to keep it clean by shocking it once a week, and changing filter every 2 weeks. No I don't work for Intex. I really hope they still have the same quality as they did 5 yrs ago.

I do not want to invest a fortune in a pool. In ohio we only have 3 good months. The intex 48"x15' has been great. This pool was 300 dollars at Walmart. If you want a better pool structurally you need to spend a couple thousand! This is our 3d season. However this pool is not for dummies. We found a level spot in the lawn. Then right over the lawn we used a spreader to spread Grub-X . This is important because grubs will live under the liner. They tunnel around under the liner causing earth clumps of dirt to push on the bottom of the liner. This is certainly an opportunity to get a hole in the liner. You can feel these humps with your feet on the bottom. Even though some people use sand, You have to remember that sand is an abrasive and it does contain small particles of glass. This is why they use sand to blast rusty parts.  Im trying to decide what to use to make the bottom of the pool feel softer on our feet this summer. Also I never set the pool up without putting a heavy blue tarp down first. This protects the liner and keeps the bottom from getting muddy at fold up time. You can purchase a tarp at sam's club. They are 2 for $15.00.  When we set the legs we pull the bottom of the legs slightly outward, out of plumb. This causes the pool to have a bigger base at the bottom for better stability. This will cause the outer walls to taper in towards the center. I have never untied the factory rope, this stretches from age. The pump is somewhat cheesy. You need 2 filters to rotate every 2-3 days. You need to maintain this cheap pump. After 4 days algae grows on the filter. When this happens water cannot pass through the filter. This causes the pump to strain and overheat, because it has a hard time moving water through it. You need to install the clean filter every 3 days. Throw the dirty filter in a bucket of hot water with Tide for 30 minutes. Then power wash it clean with the garden hose. Your nozzle will blow all the dirt out of the filter squeaky clean. Let the filter air dry for the next rotation. We also purchased a vacuum head, pole, and hose. This allows us to bring the dirt off the bottom through the filter that we change when complete. We plug the inlet on the pool wall and the outlet. We then hook our vacuum hose to the pump on the inlet side. Then you will have to unplug the outlet on the pool wall, so the water can come out of the pump and back through   . This is somewhat tricky because,The hose has to be full of water to make the pump suck the water through the pump. This is primitive since we have no shut off valves. Our test kit from wall mart is used every week. We usually buy 1 canister of chlorine and 2 canisters of PH plus. This takes us through the whole season with crystal clear water for under 50 bucks. The more you maintain your filters the less chemical you will use. Our Ph drops constantly . If you have any technical questions on water clarity call your local water department or read your test kit instructions. We never lose control of our water. We have never had to shock it. Shock creates a lot of dirt that plugs the filter. Some times we do not run the pump for a week to save electricity. When we decide to use the pool again we change the filter immediately. Inch by inch its a cinch -By the yard its hard. Intex will not tell you everything. I feel good about this investment. A in ground pool is like throwing 40,000 in the stock market. The secret to cheap pools, is learning how to use them correctly. These pools are cheaper than a family pass to the city pool.      Good Luck, John Tomco    Avon Lake, Ohio 44012
