I used to love shopping at Ross Dress For Less. Not any more. Every time I go there, no matter where or what state, the floors are littered with merchandise, broken hangers, items on the floor everywhere, dirty and wrinkled  merchandise.

The stuff is never helpful and friendly. There is always just one cashier and a line of waiting angry customers. I don't understand how this chain of clothing stores stays in business. I left the store empty handed last weekend because I just didn't have the time to wait in a line that stretched almost to the back of the store.

When we realized that the store is not opening other registers for us, I and other shoppers left the  merchandise we wanted to buy and left.

I really hope they will make the necessary changes.

"Every time I go there, no matter where or what state"

Gimme a break. You shop in Ross's in every state? If you were such a traveled shopper, I doubt you would be shopping at Ross's at all. Travel+ money= better department stores.

And then this; "When we realized that the store is not opening other registers for us, I and other shoppers left the  merchandise we wanted to buy and left."

Do you expect me to believe that a woman (I am assuming here) would walk away from something she spent time choosing in a store that is famous for carrying limited amounts of each designer or label?

And then--the grand boycott--the other shppers all walked out, too? This would have made news somewhere.LOL, What state was that Ross's in?

Now, getting back to your campaign against Ross's--try Roseburg Oregon. Our Ross's or Ross--or whatever you want to call it-- is clean with courtious clerks and bargains galore. I pick up things I drop when I am shopping there, and apparently I am not the only one in our area, so I wouldn't know about all those hangers laying everywhere,

People who generalize when they go on their smear campaigns need to think about all the innocent merchants, clerks and store personnel they are personally and unjustly attacking when they make false statements.

One bad Ross store--even two or three--or more--does not make them all bad. Get down and dirty next time you are picking apart all those Ross Stores around the country you have visited and name some names. Consumers need to know which ones to avoid.

There are many shoppers that make it difficult for a store to remain clean. They often drop merchandise on the floor and dont have the courtesy to pick it up themselves!! Lazy bums who shop there make ross look bad when all the associates work really hard to keep it clean and sometimes get de-motivated to come into work because all their hard work goes down the drain. Shame on dirty retail shoppers!

Apparently you are a glutton for punishment.

I did and will walk out without my purchases. I will not support a company that cannot give the common courtesy of a smile. The employees were rude, there was one cashier, the store was littered with all kinds of items. There were two floor clerks on duty and one dressing room attendant. I don't know where the manager was. I do not care what the discount is, I will not tolerate that, I will leave every time. Ross is not the only store in town that offers a deal.

You personally know this shopper? Perhaps the reason he/she is able to shop in several states is because he/she is a bargain shopper. Savings = more money = Travel.

Please read before you try to slam. The writer stated "other shoppers left" not "all the shoppers left".

You would have been better off to have simply said, "If you ever make it to Rosenburg, Oregon you should try our store. It is fabulous!!!" Your criticism causes your words to sound false.

      Have fun shopping.

Our Ross in Idaho is actually pretty good. I did go to one in Seattle however, and I was surprised at how different it was. It was a lot messier, and had a lot more clothes shoved onto the racks. I did have to take into consideration that the Ross in Seattle probably has about a million percent more people and product going through on a daily basis than our Idaho store.

I do have to say that I shop there because I like a challenge, and a deal, so I still shopped, and did find a very nice suit.

You get out what you put in : )

Well, I can confirm Ann's experience with my own. I live in SC and we have 2 Ross stores in the area (North Charleston & West Ashley). The stores are always cluttered, it seems like they are packing too many items in one small area. There is always stuff on the ground (hangers, shoes, clothes, etc). I too pick up after myself, however, not all shoppers are that courteous.

Our stores also seemed to be understaffed. It seems there is always 2 cashiers and only one is ringing items while the other attempts to look busy.

And, yes, women will walk away after selecting an item if the line is long for numerous reasons: she could be on lunch break, she could have a child w/ her or have other plans that waiting 20 mins in line could ruin.

Btw, "Travel+ money= better department stores." That is not true. You can travel with out a lot of money. Also, being a thrifty shopper may allow the extra money to travel.

    Sales Associate at Ross

I am an associate that works for Ross and I can tell you that Customers are PIG's! They throw things on the floor or sit them wherever they decided that they didn't want it. They open packages and lay those things in the floor or shove them behind stuff. Oh and a bunch are thieves it is amazing how many of you people steal or try and think we don't know it was you give me a break. Associates work really hard for very little pay and I mean very little pay minimum wage and most are only part time so the company doesn't have to pay insurance benefits but we need the work and money cause the economy is in the toilet. Don't go shopping if you don't plan on waiting in a line either. Even the 7-11 has a line often. I get called all kinds of names in all languages I must remain happy and smile instead of telling you to go to hell and shop someplace else. There are the customers who bring their screaming and yelling spoiled children in the store letting them climb on the racks opening up the toys leaving them all over the store even climbing the shelves as the lousy parent does nothing. Next time you are shopping be considerate put it back where you got it from if you don't want it. Leave your brat at home and don't take the tags off and pretend that you didn't do it. Remember respect treat others as you want to be treated and patients odds are you got more time then money otherwise you wouldn't be shopping at Ross to start with. Have a Happy Day.

Customer and FORMER retail clerk replies to Sales Associate at Ross
You are right. Some customers are exactly as you state. Others are very pleasant and make up for the awful ones you have to deal with. From the tone of your comment I would say you need some work on that smile you claim to maintain. My customers never knew if I was having  bad day. They do not come to the store to see me or you. They come to shop for a deal. This is the life of retail. It obviously does not suit you. Perhaps a Pell Grant would help you get a better education and get into a field more suited to your personality. It would also help you get better pay. Then you could have the insurance you deserve as well as a bit of cash to spend and learn how awful many retail workers are. Although I did not allow bad customers to influence how I felt about my job, I did go back to school to get a better career to support my children better. Good luck in life and try on a new smile. ;)

    Sarah in Seattle
Downtown Seattle Ross is horrible. There was a line of 45 customers with two cashiers, the "manager" came up and started changing out cash registers (I realize they have to do this, but at lunch time--downtown?)-plan a little better---then there was a return at the only other cash register and this "manager" did not quickly resolve that problem either--so one cash register with 45 people in line. Poor planning, terrible customer service.

I had waited 20 minutes and walked out without buying my items.

    Crap, crap  crap place.

This company has got to be the most money glutting company in the US.
They pay on average about "50 cents" for most if not everything in their store's!. Now with that in mind!, their average gross income per weak, for most of their stores is well into the 100s of thousands or close to it!.
now with those huge profits you would think they could spend more than just a thousand buck a weak for their hole staff at a store!.

Wow. It's kind of hard to believe you when all your credibility went out the window with your poor grammar and spelling. If you're so educated in Ross and its business strategy you should also know the difference between  'weak' and week  or  'hole' and whole.  Perhaps you should realize that you are overlooking all the other expenses that are incurred while running a business. Rent, for example, is tens of thousands of dollars a month. Utility bills, payroll, supplies, merchandise, repair costs. It all adds up.

As for the different Ross stores out here in Southern CA the level of mess depends on the area  some are very clean others are just too busy to keep up with the mess, Personally as long as I can find such great deals the time in line is well worth it.

    x ross manager

I worked for ross in two different states, one was not bad but the other was, is, horrible. Manager doesnt give a crap about his employees. They are suppose to have an open door policy, what a joke...not at that store. And things that are suppose to be kept confidential, are in no way kept confidential. The lines are always long because the DM is always cutting payroll, so people constantly leave the things they have picked out and usually right where they were standing!!! The workers usually have to stay two to three hours after closing just to try and put some kind of organization back together for the next day, and even though a higher up manager closes one night a week the Area Supervisors are left with less associates to close with the nights they close so the store is never recovered good enough according to them. Ross associates are overworked and underpaid. And hard work does not get you promoted its who there favorites are that get the glory.

I worked for a Ross store in Southern New Jersey.  I can attest to most of the comments made on this board.  The manager was and still is an idiot, the DM that was with the company at the time of my employ was forced out for NOT doing her job, another manager would walk in then punch in only to walk right out, one gal who did nothing but talk and text all day was promoted to assistant manager, another lady who did nothing but try to force her internet business down others throats was also promoted to a engagement position, there was an assistant manager who got her on store and all she would do is scream and yell and cuss at people, the list goes on and on.  Yes, there is often ONE and only ONE cashier working at this store.  Everyone else runs and hides when the lines get long.  I actually recall a Tuesday where the line stretched to the back of the store and wrapped back around to the front.  I was the cashier and return desk associate and no matter how many times I called for help no one came to assist.  Ross Stores is a horrible company to work for and I do not recommend them for anything.

Totally agree that I would never recommend Ross to anyone. I worked at store 856 is Philadelphia, this was the worst job I ever had. DM and there assistants are poorly managed, they have no people skills, they bully you with profanity and ignorance on a daily basis. I would leave to go home in tears, due to NICOLE a supervisor cursing at me and talking down to me on several occasions. This girl had a so many complaints against her for using profanity against her fellow coworkers. I wrote letters to her manger had witness and she is still there. They allow customers to bully, curse and holler at us on a daily basis. They have poor sps employees, They could never tame these customers. I had a customer put her hands in my face and the assistant supervisor Jennifer gave her a 10% discount, I took my concerns to Mike and Tara MANGERS of this   company, they always assured me that the problems would never happen again. cooperate and human services is beyond discussing, they allow they workers to be humillated and disrespected by they peers. shame on you.
