They want more money!!!!
Complaint

Will make this short and sweet, I hope.
Bought a timeshre in 2006, havent been able to use it as husband works away. We were shown a resort we were told we could use as we didnt like the one we were buying into. So.... we try and use it two years later, and find out that they want us to pay $410 a night per person ontop of the $10,000USD we have paid to stay anywhere. They dispute they showed us this resort, they dispute they didnt tell us we had to pay more once they admitted we were shown the resort. And so the saga goes on. We have been told we can have 2 free weeks there, which will come to the equivalent of the price we paid originally. Why would we want to do that, it doesnt solve the problem of having to pay more if we want a holiday there. Now we wait as we want out of this whole sorry mess. It leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. Husband is retiring this month and we thought we would be able to use our RCI membership without doubt as we bought into the higher levels of timeshare. Tried to find a place to go before February 2009, we have been told there is nothing on our side of the world. So we cant use the Royal Bali Club we cant use RCI. Well we can if we forever pay more, what was the point of paying into something we thought we would have for life and no more expense apart from air travel.
So people out there, beware Royal Bali Club and RCI. The directors and President must be laughing all the way to the bank.

I guess it's because it's not technically a scam, but a real business. It suits some people, but I would say it doesn't suit the most. There's lots of hidden things attached to it that the sales people won't tell you - like the maintenance fees that rise every year or that fact that it's probably not going to be that easy to trade your week in Bali for a Hilton in Florida with RCI (or some other really nice hotel that they pitched you about) - because, well... everyone will want to go there! Now, if you get a timeshare AT that Hilton in Florida - then that's when it's probably a good thing to own a timeshare :)
Royal Bali tend to sell all their weeks at their resorts and then build new and fancy ones... but then never really bother to invest in upgrading the old ones... and then you're stuck with that one for 10 years or so...
To be fair, there will be lots of people that decide to buy this timeshare on their holiday, then go home, google up what they've just purchased and then freak out "because it's a scam". Well, it's not. You still get that holiday they promised every year, RCI does exist and you have the opportunity to exchange weeks (in that case, I'd recommend learning how it works so that you can actually benefit from it) but if you decide to cancel... that's when problems arise. I know in Europe there have been a lot of changes in the timeshare market and I think there's it now a cooling off period of 14 days. It won't be the case in Bali though...
They are still operating because this sales method still works. A high pressured sales pitch is much more effective that just giving people the tours and then hoping they would come back to you later. There's a reason why it's in Bali aswell - not only it's a great tourist spot, but the businesses will also be under Indonesian law.
As to how those salesmen still sleep at night, I don't know. To be fair, most people I met working there were these slick salesmen type that probably only care about the money they bring home at the end of the day. And believe me, if you are a good seller, you can afford a pretty sweet lifestyle - especially in Indonesia.
Well, the bottom line is, I would say try to get the most out of your timeshare since you have it now. Good luck with the fight if you still plan to get out of it!
Can anyone tell me if they have been successful in getting their money back via the Bali-lawyers lawsuit?
Please refer to their website for further info - looks promising

There may be an out with respect to this sentence in the DOCEP document as I understand that the Karma Royal Group is Australian owned ( they have an office in Perth where I understand John Spence resides):
"Property and other investments wholly owned and operated overseas are outside of the jurisdiction of Consumer Protection and other Australian consumer law enforcement agencies."
I would welcome any opinions/advice. Please post to this site
Thanks

Me and my husband are also victim of this company. They brainwashed us to take it for 3.5 lakhs in Indonesia on our trip at Bali in 2008 and we are Red season members. But now they have introduced a point system and on 2010 December when we visited Goa they again tried to take another 1 lakh to get us enlisted to the point system. With the point system, you can actually avail many resorts in India with companies they collaborated with but without point system you are confined to those handful of resorts they have. In Goa in 2010 they said that week system is a very bad option and we stopped selling it since 2006 . But we were given only the week-option in 2008 and they never mentioned point system. Now they do not really make new resorts that frequently and are CHEATING customers who opted for the week system. Wish we could do something to stop them from cheating people.
It was the same old story, credit card - sales pitch etc hard sale aimed at my wife, knowing that as newly recently married, I'd give in to what she wanted.
Is there anyone out there that has been successful in getting any money back or success in their complaints? Please e-mail me at hitenshah2@hotmail.com.
Thank you
