I again received a call from this number/company in my cell phone. They call 1-2x every week. so irritating.

I had long straightened out my credit card debts in 2002. Suddenly, since 2008, I started getting calls from this company. I do not know how they got my cell ph number. I read almost all the complaints ahainst this company and now am convinced they they are scammers.

Should we all band together and file a class action suit? Or, report this company to the authorities in ur respective cities/states?

I've been getting 4-5 calls a month from them, sometimes early in the morning.  They leave a recorded message that never says what they want.  Have been at this phone number for 20 years, and have never had bad debt.  Reported them to Do Not Call, but they keep on calling.
Class Action Suit?  Not a bad idea.

I hired these guys about 4 years ago to do collection work for me based on their web site. In the 4 years they have not collected one cent for me. I collected from one of the accounts and now they want me to pay them for  me doing their work. Tried to cancel with them, they want 6% of the debt I turned into them, of which none they collected thus making the cost even higher. They are a scam company and need to be shut down!  I understand Arizona has revoked thier license and Vermont is investigating them. Let your Attorney General know what they are doing and write to Vermont's Attorney General, maybe enough complaints will get the job done!!

People at PRA continue to call me to collect a debt from someone with a similar, but not exact name as I. The residence history is different too. When I tell them this, they accuse me of lying. Very aggressive, threatening and interrogate like the KGB.   After checking them out on the internet, it is my opinion that they are predators that prey on poorer and unsophisticated people that can't fight back.  Wealthy people have attorneys to deal with this stuff. I think that they need to be shut down!  Since it operates across state lines, it is a Federal thing. Contact your Senator and Congressman and demand action! Obama is for the little guy so send emails to the Whitehouse too.  And getting the state AG involved is good too!  Add Illinois and Missouri to the list of Vermont and Arizona too. 4 DOWN 48 TO GO.  Let get it done!

Yes, I have been consistently harrassed and I have never had this debt. We should all contact 20/20
or 60 minutes or some other television investigative news channel.

This organization was being investigated in one township, and so halted local operation for a time.  They were informed an individual cited had no personal non-secure debts, ever.  Admitted that if the debt was real, would be beyond Time for action anyway.  Were offered the funds requested if used (10USC377) to actually recover the portfolio lost by the individual who had no debt.  A plethora of Attorneys including Tom Corbitt and Christ Christy have already been payed to represent civil defense agent (against assault of lives and property 18USC2252) concurrently harmed by malicious attacks.

If you Contact News Media do not speak about arbitrary and capricous use of document and force or the effect of dehumanizing innocent or intelligent people.  It seems to be an untouchable apple-cart.

Tell them to send you a letter, as required by FDCPA.

If they fail to send it within 5 days (give them 10 days considering the mail), and they keep calling, contact your state Attorney General to report their violation of FDCPA (their failure to send the required letter, which also violates many state's debt collection laws).

If they are contacting you about someone else's debt, they are probably also scewing with your credit files.

Better to engage them through requesting proof of the debt (in writing as allowed for by FDCPA), rather than ignore them until your credit card companies start cutting you off or jacking your rates.

Abusive debt collection (threatening you, accusing you of "lying") is illegal under federal and state laws.

See FDCPA on the FTC site www.ftc.gov

Contact your state Attorney General for assistance.

Portfolio Recovery Associates hired a law firm in Louisville Ky named Pottigner and Morgan who are well known around here for their dirty tactics in debt collections. They violate every law in the book and still continue to pursuit legally dead debts well beyond the federal and state statue of limitation.    They will turn $1,000.00 worth of dead old debts into $20,000 due according to their bogus records. I have had and paid bills all of my life but have never seen any companies like these two before. They broadcast your personal information to anyone who will listen, follow you around town, tear up your car if you won't pay the debt, vandalize your home, hack into your computer and do all manner of things even considered illegal by any standard. These people are common thugs and criminals. And need to be stopped.

As a "collection specialist" I will tell everyone to send a registered letter
telling them to quit calling or writing letters. If you did owe the debt, check statue of limitations on that debt and chances are it is uncollectible because it is too old! These "swine" have been calling me and saying that I should have a responsibility toward this debt.....they are idiots and I told them so. Also, they can't legally call more than 2 times a day or more than once a week in some states, check this out with state regulations on debt collection.Be cool, they can't do anything to you.I just let them call and don't answer the phone. When I get a new printer I will send a letter telling them to f--k off, because my debt is coverd by bankruptsy and is 19 yrs old!! Can't collect in NJ after 6 yrs.If you contact the Attorney General in their state or yours, be patient they are very busy and probably
can't act on your complaint right away.

    FED UP!
I paid a debt (should not have to begin with) with this scam company in February 2010. Received my full & final payment receipt letter of the 'debt.' All said & done. Or so I thought until today, -- I received another letter stating I owe them $440.00 MORE for the SAME account I already paid! Called the idiots & was told it is a mistake & I will be receiving a confirmation in the mail that the account was paid. I said I already have a confirmation it is paid! The guy was so sweet & nice to me, uh-huh! I threatened them with a lawsuit. Will be contacting the Attorney General.
