I again received a call from this number/company in my cell phone. They call 1-2x every week. so irritating.

I had long straightened out my credit card debts in 2002. Suddenly, since 2008, I started getting calls from this company. I do not know how they got my cell ph number. I read almost all the complaints ahainst this company and now am convinced they they are scammers.

Should we all band together and file a class action suit? Or, report this company to the authorities in ur respective cities/states?

Pay your bills and you wont get calls.  It is funny that all of you say I filed backruptcy or paid of that debt when it went to collections last time.  Pay your frecking bills on time and stop messing up the US economy and there would be no need for companies like this.  It is always the dead beats who cry fowl first.

Perhaps if you read these complaints in an intelligent manner you would notice that many of the debts never existed in the first place so if you want to be righteous about messing with the economy you might want to address the company that is trying to make profit off people's good faith in believing that they might indeed owe but had forgotten since they claim it's 20 years old.(for example the woman who suffers from alzheimers who's relative took over the matter, thank God).  I offered to pay after I requested time to look into this debt they say I supposedly owed and they said to look them up in BBB and that I needed to give them a check over the phone to secure the "arrangement of a settlement".  If they are legitimate they would have allowed that and btw, anyone can get a rating in BBB by just paying the dues, this was exposed on 60 minutes earlier this year.  I called SWB and found to my assurance that I indeed did not owe them anything.

Hopefully you never have to go through financial hardship. Unless you have you wouldn't be so judgmental. You probably work there!!! Stop harassing people! If you know the law you wouldn't be harassing. After four years of a debt that has not been acknowledged, meaning that you have not talked to the creditor or even if you have, you have not admitted to the debt... They cannot sue you!!! This company lies and harasses terribly and YES it's against the law. We should get together and sue for harassment. They will tell you to call back within one hour and they will hold the courts documents from being serve. Liars... They called my husband's job who had nothing to do with this debt and told his employer that he owed the money. They threatened my husband with garnishing his wages and serving him court documents. We really should get together because what they do is not legal.

Have had the same experiances for a dept that I never had. They call early in the morning several times a week. Have asked for a copy of the purchase contract several times. They have asked for a notorized letter with the request in order to open the file. Need a class action lawsuit to be filed.

    Dear DianaJ,
Thank you for your post here. This company called me today about a debt I do not owe.
It really upset me. I have good credit and don't want some loser company to 'f' it up making a false report. The girl said she was collecting an unpaid debt of $194 that I owed to SBC.  It took her some time to tell my why she was calling because I wouldn't confirm my name; I didn't recognize the ph #.
WHO ASKS, OR ANSWERS QUESTIONS LIKE THAT IN THESE TIMES OF ID THEFT??  Not me.
She became rude/threating, like I had something to hide. I told her she was full of crapp and I had not used SBC ph service of any kind in over 8 years - that my account w/ SBC was closed w/ a zero balance. And, that I had never received one single bill or notice of payment notice from SBC since. All true statements.

The only thing I can think of is, way back when 1999 or so I had tried out SBC's DSL service and it sucked, never could get it to work...So, I mailed it back using the 'return address' sticker they provided.  (Supposidly, if you cancelled it they would charge you around the amount this collection [***] was asking for.)
BUT, I NEVER heard anything back from SBC or ATT..and hadn't even thought about since.  THAT WAS 1999!!

I appreciate any advise/info you can send.  Thanks!

If a 3rd party collection agency, which Portfolio is, calls you more than once a day. You can own them and they are worth a lot of money. I suggest you get yourself a decent lawyer and take them for some of that loot.

If they call you more than once a day you have them. Get the phone records from your phone company. They can't win if this is true.

    Good luck,

    Tony

I am glad that I am not the only one with these guys on me.
They are trying to collect a 16 year old debt of $125 that I don't think is valid.  I also had a bancruptcy in 1996 that discharged all debts.
They say that they can't give me any information, and that I will need to contact the cellular provider, but when I contact the cellular provider, they can't discuss it with me and I need to contact PRA directly.
I'm not spending $500 on an attorney for $125.
Does anyone know what the statute of limitations is on an alleged cellphone bill?

I just received a letter from them for my late husband. He died in January of 2005. When I called them at 1-800-772-1413 they hung up on me. I guess I am lucky they don't have my telephone number!

You might add 626 to the area codes they call from.  Just got off the phone with them, they say that I have a Capital One Credit Card account that was opened in 2000 that I owe on.  Funny thing is, back then my credit score was so low that I couldn't even buy a credit card!! They called on my cell phone and when I gave them my land line to call, she said that she would call me right back.  Hmmmm, 15 minutes later no call.  Also, they would not send me a letter, she said that I needed to take down their mailing information and send my dispute into them.

Seriously? I can stop these harrassing calls? They call me from different #s many times a day, and my husband and I have great credit. We have been married for 18 years, and I DON'T understand why I am getting these friggin calls all the time!
