I again received a call from this number/company in my cell phone. They call 1-2x every week. so irritating.

I had long straightened out my credit card debts in 2002. Suddenly, since 2008, I started getting calls from this company. I do not know how they got my cell ph number. I read almost all the complaints ahainst this company and now am convinced they they are scammers.

Should we all band together and file a class action suit? Or, report this company to the authorities in ur respective cities/states?

I asked why they would not allow me the time to verify the debt with SWB and they said they no longer own the debt, that PRA owns it and if I would pay over the phone they would post date it although I offered to send them a money order before the date they offered to post date it.  They asked me what's the difference if I send M.O or give them check info and I replied, YOU tell me the difference????  They  said I could check the BBB, beware, 60 minutes did a expose on BBB and their rating practice.  They give out ratings in accordance to the amount of dues you pay to be a member, not on your reputation.  Also if you do pay then that eliminates the statute of limitations.  I do feel that if you signed a contract and owe you should pay but there are circumstances of hardship where the debts were released and I think these people scamming people and relying on peoples doubt that perhaps they forgot about a bill and pay does more to hurt the economy than the people who have claimed bankruptcy due to real hardship, whether medical, financial, etc.  When they would not allow me the time to check on the validity of the debt and could not tell  me the difference between my sending a M.O. and doing it over the phone was a real red flag.  They responded by saying there was no way to track a M.O. if it got lost.  Mostly I wanted to bring attention to the BBB and their rating system, never rely in it.  Google it and you'll find out that all you have to do it pay a due for a certain rating.

What we ought to do is look up the personal phone information for the following individuals: Steven D. Fredrickson, Graig S. Grube, Kevin P. Stevenson and Judith Sugg- Scott are PRA's majority stockholders, according to SEC filings. Maybe we could call them with complaints (always within the laws as to not be hypocrits), a little taste of their own products.

P R A called me on several occasion , I answered the phone and they got me with the "owing of Capital One" too. I gave them my account info and I need to call them and cancel, I'm in the state of Alabama.  It has been several years since I remember paying this off and this is not on my credit. I have read all of the accusations. I dont know what to do because they will continue to take this amount out of my account. I would like them to send me more info referenced to the account. I will have to place stop payment cause look like they will not honor. All other companies will , if they are legal are not scam. I dont even know what I am paying them for. I think I need to call  my Attorney General as well. They have been taking this money out for several months.

I got a letter from them in the mail saying they wanted to settle on an old credit card. I called them to set up the payment arrangement and they kept insisting that I must pay with a check card over the phone and that if I mailed the check in it wouldn't get there in time and then they put a manager on the phone who said the same thing. The letter I got in the mail said I had 20 days from this date to make my first payment. I said I wanted their business identification number to make sure they were a real company - they said they didn't have one and had no idea what I am even talking about. I asked to talk to someone else and they said they were the only ones that could handle this matter. They were rude to me and kept insisting that I give them my bank info the girl asked my for my social # I said I didn't feel comfortable giving it to her and she told me thats okay I already have it. Then she read it back to me. Why in the hell do they need my social number to identify me. I am thinking this place is a scam but I really want to pay off this credit card and get if off my credit. I don't know what to do ? Any advice ?

No matter how much you pay them they will never stop. Even setting up a plan resets the timer on the debt appearing on your credit report. Do not speak to them, do not say you are the person they are calling. If they are calling you cell phone make a contact called "ignore" and add the numbers to it.

Once again, to be clear: giving them money, no matter how much, will not make them stop calling you. All you will do is make the debt "fresh" again on your credit report.

Nobody, anywhere, ever has had these people actually clear up an old debt, real or not.

They started calling me in July about an old power bill from January 2001. They say they sent paperwork in the mail but I never got it, they then said they would send me an email with the information but I never got that. I had asked them to please stop calling at 8:30 AM but they keep doing it, accusing me of not taking care of things and not looking at my email. I was checking my email 4-5 times a day. I was then told I could see the info online on their webpage and was given an account number, guess what? It didn't work. I finally blocked the numbers I had and am going to mail them a letter telling them to not call me, and I will send it certified. This is bull, all I want it legit paperwork and they refuse to send it...oh they say they sent lots of letters but that is a farce.

My husband got a reg. letter from our CIRCUIT COURT from these ppl today. THEY filed a small claim that he owes them $1064.15 for a credit card he knows nothing about. It has the option to deny the debt (which he does) and send it back to the circuit clerk of our county. I need some help as what we should do. I wanna go see my attny tomorrow w/ this and get his insite but we need to take care of this ASAP. We got the cert. notification from the post office a few wks ago but he just picked it up today. I dont want them to enter a judgement on PRA's behalf b/c he didnt pick up the letter. HELP

Portfolio Recovery Associates - they buy charged-off debts and collect for pennies on the dollar.  They have had a gajillion complaints lodged against them for violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  If you have been harrassed, Google "file a complaint against debt collector" and you'll find a government site where you can fill out a complaint online.  That will stop the calls.

These idiots call me almost every day even after I told them to stop calling me. They are bullies and thugs and don't listen. Best bet if they call quote the law and tell them if they continue to harass you that you will get a lawyer involved.

Portfolio Recovery Associates just started calling me early in the morning and late in the evening.  I told them to stop calling me because they were bothering me.  The lady said she wasn't bothering me and was allowed to call me between 8am and 9pm.  She gave me an address to write to and ask them to stop calling me.  I'm afraid this is part of the scam, but I think I'll write the letter.

I have been receiving calls from a "Frank Johnson" @ 1-941-580-9081 telling me I owe from a Fast Cash loan.  I tried to tell them that I haven't had a checking account in about 2 years.  Paying off an outstanding amount on my old checking account and will be opening another.  Since then... this person has harrassed me and my co-workers, has told me I will be arrested and told me just today that they will put a hold on my Social Security# and that I will be sorry!!  I have gone on to the website IC3.gov and reported this person.  It is a shame that people are aloud to do this to people.  OH, almost forgot!!  They all use Magic Jack!!!!!!

Good way to stop the phone calls is to tell them that you are recording them for quality control purposes. They're always telling you they're going to record you and you can say the same right back to them (even if you don't have the ability). They know the things they say and threaten on the phone calls are illegal, so they will hang up and not talk to at that time. If you do it often enough, they will stop calling. That's what got them to stop calling me and now I just get letters and throw them away.

I just received a letter from them today regarding a credit card I opened in 1993 and had to let go in 1997 when I went out on disability.  It is now 2013 and they are offering me a settlement in the thousands!  I'm looking at one of my old credit bureaus which clearly states that this was scheduled to fall off my report in May 2011 and the date of last activity was 2001, which was 12 years ago.  I don't know how they came up with 2001 since I've never had any contact or payment activity with the original creditor since 1996, but that's beside the point, this is old debt that legally they cannot collect on.  I did my 10 years with a blemish o my credit!  How dare them 16 years later threaten me and try to get me to settle!  I'm going to pull my credit report soon and see if these scums are reporting on me.  I would love to join all of you in some sort of action against these frauds!  I haven't heard a damn thing regarding this old charged off account since the 1990's.  WTF?

look at all you scumbags figuring out ways to not pay back money you borrowed.  God bless America whenre you can legally steal money.  as far as your statute (not statue morons) of limitations gos it is for litigation.  just because you cant be sued doesnt mean you dont still owe the money.  and to let you all know before you all say i am a bill collector, no i am not, I am just someone who actually pays their bills and am sick of interest rates and such being higher cause of scumbags like you.  You are all the same people voting for the idiot president we have so you can get your obama phone and foodstamps for doing nothing.

Hey nimrod.  I guess you don't read these posts too closely.

The majority of the people posting here do not owe the debt PRA is calling them about.  They randomly call people, whether they owe anything or not hoping to intimidate them into paying.  Others claim that PRA is calling them trying to collect on debt that has been paid in full YEARS ago.

These dirtbags have been calling  my THIRTEEN year old daughter's cel phone EVERY day for over 2 years!  I sincerely doubt she has outstanding debt that is owed to a collection agency.

When you are tired of being harassed, you may want to contact an attorney regarding suing for FDCPA violations.  You can find a consumer attorney in your state through www.naca.net

PRA is a bottom feeding agency that shows the extent to how far our country has fallen in the toilet. Publicly listed on the NASDAQ??  Really, is Wall Street so desperate that they allow thugs and gangsters to try and look legitimate by becoming a publicly traded company???  We really need to take America back and put these criminals back in their place - jail!
