However, it's likely they just wanted your credit card number. You should ask your credit card company to cloe the account and issue a new credit card.

A lil advice....people calling you for payday loan debt with thick Indian accent, talking about hiring an attorney or legal officers will be coming to your place if you dont pay....THIS IS ALL CRAP. Dont believe 'em.
Frens this got to stop!!!! Hold on...forgot to mention, If you a get a voicemail starting with " This msg is intended to Mr. xxxxxxx. Mr. xxxxxxx the very moment you recieve this msg, I want you or your legal attorney of records to call " somthing like this, Its them, people who gonna go to hell one day. Disregard the Msg or their call.
I cant do anthing for You guys but I pray that this stops soon. hope this helps. God Bless you all.

Indian connected abusive debt collection appears to fit 3 categories:
1) somewhat legitimate Incian call centers that are part of U.S. debt collectors, but typically the FDCPA compliance is much lower than mainstream U.S. debt collectors.
2) shady business organized Indian debt collection call centers, with numerous reports of FDCPA violations such as illegal threats and evasion of validation, (One run from southern California but using Indian call centers was sued by FTC several months ago.)
3) What appear to be nothing but free lance con artists, or small groups running fake debt collection scams, often employing fake "payday loan application" websites.
I might be more upset with these fraudulent and abusive overseas con artists, except that they have been progressively destroying the credibility of the U..S. based collection industry, which although it often uses more subtle deception and harassment, is in many cases as crooked as the Indian scams.
Because fraudulent collection is apparently a growth industry, and as quick to harass and extort not only debtors, but the majority of U.S. citizens who actually pay their bills, I expect these fraud rackets to continue to grow exponentially, fed by both cheap VoIP phone service and more cheap bad debt from the last recession, until either Congress is forced to act, or the credit reporting and phone systems degenerate into worthlessness.
