Country: United States
These Jack**** people have called me 4 times today. When I finally decided to answer to see what's what, they have a dude on the line that I can barely understand saying I'm qualified for a free Gas card worth $200. They tell me I will be charged nothing untilI receive the card, then the "supervisor" gets on the line to confirm my mailing info, and wants my creditcard ###. What??? Do they think I was born yesterday, SCAM ALERT!!! Beware I have also noitified the Phoenix Arizona Attourney General, who promised to look into this BS.

They deceptively misrepresented the "product" when they originally got your "agreement", so despite their promise to refund, their initial charge was fraudulent.
You would be wise to contact your bank immediately to dispute their fraudulent charges, and block the card number or close the account due to fraud, to prevent additional fraudulent charges. Dispute through your bank, under FRB Reg. E for debit card EFT charges to checking accounts, or under FCBA for credit card charges. You must notify your bank of your dispute within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charges, and you would be wise to act immediately, or you may find you are dealing with additional crammed monthly charges, possibly under multiple names.
Several people have reported that they already have credit card or account information when they call, which indicates they are illegally buying it from someone. That allows them to make charges whether they call or not, but it also allows them to make deceptive calls aimed at leading the consumer into saying something they can later fraudulently misrepresent was "authorization" for their fraudulent charges, even as simple as accepting a "free gift", or an "information package".
The overall pattern of complaints reaks of fraud and theft, from creating the appearance of sham "products" with little or no value, using trademarks of well-known trusted companies to appear legitimate, using "shipping and handling" as an excuse for getting consumer account information, already having account information before calling, etc.
All variations are designed to create one appearance, then twist it into something different to steal money.

Is this fraud , straight up , or what?? I hope someone figures out how to handle this to shut them down.
I wish you luck . I'm working on whatever can be done legally also.
They wanted to verify my address first. I asked him what address he had for me, and he had someone else's address, perhaps the person who had my phone number years ago. I said I wouldn't provide any more information until he gave me a call back number and his company's federal tax ID number.
He had a few conversations with a manager and then started to provide his name ("Mikey White," despite having a rather thick Indian or Pakistani accent) and his ID number. I said I wanted the company ID and phone number to verify that they were a legitimate company. He said he would transfer me to the verification line. In the meantime, it sounded like other conversations going on in the background.
While I waited, I saw that "American Auto Benefits" does have a legitimate looking web page, but inexplicably no information on what it costs to be a member or how to sign up to be a member. This worries me, because it seems like it might be a ploy to appear to be legitimate.
Eventually the background conversation changed to some strange kind of static. I eventually hung up.
I don't see that this company is listed on the US Better Business Bureau site. I hope there is an investigation of this operation. They didn't sound like they were U.S.-based, however.
