    Angry Cousin
They are currently calling my mother for my cousins mess. I tried calling asking them why they were calling. They claimed they couldn't tell me. I agree it's on the person to pay their bill, but calling someone dosen't put money in their account, and paying them a little dosen't stop anything either. They don't stop until they get their money, or if you do set up something they just keep coming if you mess up even the slightest bit. I was hung up on, all I was saying was to stop calling that number. it's ridiculous!!!!

You have no obligation to put up with harassing calls for a debt that isn't even owed by you.

Assist your mother in sending a letter, certified so you have proof of their receipt, demanding that they cease calling your mother's number (give it).

If they keep calling after you determine from the USPS website that they have received your certified letter, file a harassment complaint with your Attorney General, for violation of FDCPA and state debt collection laws, and find an attorney with experience in FDCPA and TCPA litigation.

    You might try www.naca.net

I used to have the same narrow-minded opinion.  I used to be very well off and considered those who could not pay their bills dead beats.  A dead beat is someone who won't pay their bills, not someone who for circumstances beyond their control cannot pay all their bills.  I hope you never get in the "dead beat" position as I have. But maybe we should hope you do, then you might develop compassion for others, evidently you have none.

Actually this isn't the case.  I was laid off, got a new job and had my account paid in full two months later.  Again I said paid in full, not negotiated.   To this day (3 months later) they still have not sent me the title to my vehicle.   Do not do anything with this company unless you get it in writting.

Per the agreement you signed, your situation probably has no barring on the account, so I suggest you stop complaining and pay your bills.

If you're an example of the sort of personnel that RAB has on their payroll then it's no wonder they have so many FTC complaints.  I suggest you go live in the real world for a change before you make assumptions about people such as myself who actually work for a living.  Just make sure you actually learn to read and write before you do.

You do know you can not legally sue the relative for someone else dept. Especially when the relative has no knowledge of the deptors whereabouts in the first place. I had gotten calls for my exhusband's depts in the past and my parents had gotten calls for depts with companies they never had an account with in the first place and it was realized that my relative's identity was stolen, but people like you don't think about those things. Legally if a debtor wants to pay the dept and is not going to make payment until they rec. a legit statement from you in the mail, they have ever right to refuse to make the payment until they get that statement.

Not what I got bud, they said 135.00 to me, then acted like they did not know what the The Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170) and here is the link for that too :

      http://www.forgivestudentloandebt.com/content ... -4170-bill-text

Not to mention how unprofessional and rude the service rep was when I asked about it or the rehabilitation for loans in default, and all she said was in a very snotty voice no, you will be paying 135.00 per month and I cannot do any lower. Ummm I already have dealt with another one that did that with a lower price than what this one stated to me. So you are completely wrong and you have no idea if someone is unemployed and gets that unemployment because that can be denied as well. You must not live in a poor situation and is unable to work the jobs most people get. SSI can be denied as well from a disabled person the first and even second time around.

You work for them ,dont you? I had a call from Regional Adjustment for someone else. Very rude. I got rude right back. You do not know the reason these people have been turned over to collections. You may find yourself in that same boat 1 day, hope you get to deal with someone who has an attitude just like yours.

    Typical collection industry BS.

"HERES A TIP IF YOU ARE A RELATIVE AND RECIEVE A DEBT CALL....GIVE THEM THE INFO YOU DO HAVE THATS WHY THE DEBTOR USED YOU AS A REFERNCE"

Debt collectors may say you were used as a "reference", as if that somehow makes you responsible, but in many cases they just made that up.  They found your phone number by skip-tracing possible relatives, through databases like Accurint, nothing more.  They may even already know how to contact the debtor, and may already be in contact, but are only calling you to deliberately embarass the alleged debtor to coerce payment.

You have no obligation to step into some other person's financial problems, nor do you have any obligation to put up with demeaning and abusive calls.  You also have the right to tell any debt collector to cease calling you, especially about a debt you are not responsible for, and you can sue them if they keep harassing you.  If you tolerate harassment, you will just get more of it.

"YOU DO KNOW YOU CAN BE SUED BY THE COMPANY FOR AN UNCOLLECTABLE DEBT?"

You are responding to a complaint by a non-debtor, who does not owe the alleged debt.  Debt collectors can be sued for abusive calling, even if you are NOT the alleged debtor.

"IT DOESNT MATTER IF UR 80..U GET SSI...UNEMPLOYED U GET UNEMPLOYMENT..."
False.  You are implying that exempt sources of income are required to be used to pay debts.  You know better than that.

Try actually reading the law before you run your mouth about it, you brainless twit.  It's a violation of federal law to continue to contact a non-debtor when you have been asked to stop.  RAB is notorious for continuing to harass people who don't even know the debtor despite allegedly updating their records about them every time.

    A Relative
I am a relative of a active duty military person.  I received a phone call today which literally had my head going all directions and my heart racing.  This individual called 1st of all stating that my relative had me listed as NEXT OF KIN..  Now think about that and the fact that my relative is DEPLOYED!!!!!!!!!!!!  What the heck do you think was going through my head... OH NO WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY RELATIVE!!!! WTF!!!!!  These collectors do not think when calling peoples relatives and that particular STARTING line is FOUL!!!!!! If I could see that person face to face I would plant my size 9 up the crack of his behind! There is no reason to start out your bill collecting speal that way especially, during this time when so many have relatives who are deployed to west by God Iraq, Persian Gulf, Afgahnastan etc..  What a Butt hole

This is a common lie used by debt collectors.

When they contact third parties, since they are not allowed by FDCPA to disclose that the person they are trying to find owes a debt, they often claim you were "used as a reference".  In this case, it is likely that they just used a skip-trace service to look up relatives, then covered it up by telling you that your relative had you listed as "next of kin".

When did you ever see a "next of kin" blank on a credit application?

The only legal reason to contact third parties is to obtain location information on some alleged debtor, but some debt collectors do so even when they have already contacted the alleged debtor, to embarass and harass or create deliberate panic in the family, implying they owe a debt, disclosing details of it, or even implying they are being sued, in violation of FDCPA.

Such abusive scare tactics are also particularly common with phony "debt collection" rackets.

You have no obligation to act as some messenger for a debt collector, and if their calls are abusive, threatening, or harassing, tell them to cease calling and contact your state Attorney General if they continue.

"Getting a message to you" is not a legally allowed reason for contacting a relative, according to FDCPA.

Only obtaining location information is allowed, and if they already have it, then they have no more reason to contact any third party.  Such further contact would then likely to be intended for purposes of harassment and embarassment.

    Ironic
Me and my wife worked in legal departments for collections for over 15 years.  We wanted to make arragements. Our credit is good.  I had to ask 4 times for their number because he would not stop talking.  Just wanted to dominate conversation.  Even asked for address and he hung up.  Fact is I spoke to them 3 times in 4 minutes because they hang up then immediately call back.  And they spoke to me without verifying I am husband as my wife now has a different last name than account info.  Not trying to dodge bill what so ever, but really hard to talk to them when they do not let you speak and hang up on you and call back repeatedly. Sorry RAB, but these are very clear violations, and you know it. Our phone records clearely show it.  I agree people need to pay what is owed, but I also agree your end needs to do it legally.  I never once recieved notice of violation and I was very good.  Collecting can be done with out violating or by being a jerk.  At least be professional guys.  It is a business, its not personal, and personal comments such as "dead beat" are uncalled for and accomplish nothing what so ever.  Has anyone ever payed after you personally insult them?  Your only shooting yourself in the foot.  Sadly it is people that insult and harrass and violate that give collectors a bad name.

    Ironic
Using my skip tracing tools I found 117 lawsuits right now against them.  That is highly excessive for any company.  In fact I have never even heard of a collection company having that many.  That should tell something to any one posting, Rab, advocate for collecting bills, or consumer being collected on.  Even stranger I tried calling them 5 times to reconcile something and could never get a live person.

I hate when people call me looking for my relatives or they call my relatives looking for me. This is illegal and these companies have no authority in doing any of this stuff. They need to get a life and respect the privacy of all.
