This collection agency calls your relatives to collect from you -
Isn't that illegal? From what I read it is...

bill collectors are not all bad. you have some who will harass you and call you names and even try to break laws. then you have others who are simply doing there job and calling you for whatever client you signed a contract with to help your situation not get any worser.  its not as bad as you think. i was a bill collector and at the same time having bill collectors call me. some would call with since so i would pay because its not like i dont owe a debt. then you would have some that call and couldnt take me saying i lost my job would try something when i get back on my feet.  knowing i could have set up 25 dolrs a month. but instead i want to eat and do other things. and they would say thing i knew was against the law. but knowing i was able to pay something calmed them down . because believe you me it never stops. you send one letter to stop calls  you will be sending until your debt expires . and comes back again..

and another thing its their job to ask different questions because it is some people in the world that actually dont know what they can do . and when you mention it a light comes on . so know we dont call knowing you personally we call to get to know you . someone who is already knowing whats going on .

They called me yesterday, and lied to me about what they do.  Brian Thompson was the caller, and when I told him I was not taking calls about bills or debts for my daughter that he called about, he said it was nothing about a bill, but about business.  My daughter did not get in this position because she did not want to pay, but because of a life or death medical issue the her insurance refused to cover.  So before you assume everyone gets into debt issues due to being irresponsible, it is always good to know the situation.

How dare you insult another individual. They are not stupid.  No one has the right to harass another person who is not the cause of the problem.

With all the phone call scams and identity theft, how is a person supposed to know the validity of the call when they say they will not say the nature of the call untill your personal info is given??

don't forget that if the debt is over 7 yrs old, they cannot legally pursue payment due to the fact that that is the most time alloted per statute of limitaions in most states!

If you have paid off your car loan, and you cannot get your title lien cleared, contact your state Attorney General.

It may be that the lender is violating state law by failing to release their lien.

It may also be that the debt collector has not paid their client, in effect defrauding you and the client out of your payoff.

Either way, your state AG should be able to get them to straighten it out.

Wow, this is the reason people hate debt collectors. Just realize you aren't speaking with intelligent life when you speak with these people. Let them take it to a lawyer, then you can talk to someone who has a brain.

I've been getting calls for someone of the same name (common name) and they are asking me to verify a birth date and next the last of my SS#. I've never been late on a bill in my life so this goes to show what an unnecessarily wide net they cast. I'm not giving them anything because after having my identity stolen once, I have no idea who is trying to get my information again. If legitimate, I know they have a job to do so am not dismissing that but it seems like they're going through the phone book or information calling everyone with the same name of the person they are looking for. Sound pretty inefficient to me.

This is exactly the kind of abuse that is illegal. Debt collectors are to treat the debtors with dignity and respect. They are to refrain from this time of written or verbal abuse.

these people have just started calling our house looking for my husband. i LOVE that they call at all hours of the day, including around the butt crack of dawn and also around 9 pm when i'm trying to put my toddler to bed. my husband finally called them back and found out that he was put into collection for an account that he closed 3 years ago when we moved out of state (closed the account because the bank does not have branches in the state we moved to). they said that he had an outstanding loan on the account (he never took out a loan) and that the account had been used as recently as april of this year...which is impossible because HE CLOSED IT 3 YEARS AGO. they said that they sent him letters in the mail, but sent them to our old address IN ANOTHER STATE. he still receives statements from the bank at which the account was at because they do a credit watch for him (and they get sent directly to our new address). they show that he does NOT have any outstanding loan on his old account, but that his credit report and credit score DID take a hit because of this erroneous (or fraudulent) "outstanding loan." so if the bank where the supposed outstanding loan is shows that there is no outstanding loan, WHO REPORTED MY HUSBAND TO COLLECTION AND FOR WHAT??? and why do they have our old address in another state, but have our new phone number at our current address (but not our current address)? this sounds so ridiculous that it seriously sounds like ID FRAUD/THEFT or A SCAM, but it DID affect his credit report/score. what a pain in the @$$!!!

If the so called collector is asked by a party to cease calling, and they persist, fines can total $1000.00 per subsequent call.

Your obvious lack of even basic communication skills, attitude, obviously makes you the poster child for the moronic individuals who are the front line of this obnoxious industry. Having to misrepresent yourself, or try to intimidate individuals to gain info, shows a complete lack of skills in accomplishing your job.

It's not that we don't want to pay, we just are unable to.

RAB is in violation of several laws in my case.  Calling relatives, etc. more than allowed by law.  They are allowed to call ONCE to locate you.  In my case, they know where I am.  I corresponded with them twice by mail and several times by phone.  I spoke to them yesterday, in fact, from my cell phone - which, despite attempts by collection agencies to appeal the right to contact debtors on their cell phones, it is still against the law.  I keep record of all my interactions with them.  They denied and then admitted to receiving written correspondence.  They acknowledged my cell phone number than, after speaking with me AGAIN by cell phone, acknowledged it again and then rang my phone twice fewer than 24 hours later without leaving a message - that is considered harassment.  Another company called Asset Acceptance was taken to court for all the these things and they no longer knowingly and willfully break the law, not like RAB!!  And as for me, I used up my one and only one year of deferral on private student loans looking for a job, then years later, when I needed  some deferral time I couldn't get it, struggled to pay, lost my job at the beginning of the recession and went into default.  THERE WERE AND ARE NO PAYMENT PLANS AVAILABLE ON PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS. Don't believe it?  Look it up.  The payment plan available to me now is $38K, today.  So, until I save that up while making minimum wage and paying for a roof over my head and other basic expenses, I doubt I'll be pulling $38K out of my a$$ anytime soon.  Mistake to borrow it, hell yes, in hindsight, which is always 20/20.  Worse than a gambler racking up more debt than that on a poker table or a shopper on a credit card, hell no.  Gives RAB the right to harass me or my family members, NOPE.  Not by the current law or any other forthcoming.  They will go down.  I save every msg and take notes on every interaction I have with them.  Bye, bye, RAB.  Bite me!
