Today I received a text msg asking me if I would like a $200 Gas Voucher. It provided a toll free number to call for details: 877-764-7978. I have received 6 different text messages this year, with similar promises. I called the number, the person on the other end with a foreign accent, claimed to work for "Central Rewards" and proceeds to tell me for a one-time fee of $2.95 I would get a $200 gas voucher, good anywhere. Sarcastically, I said that it sounds too good to be true! I asked him how I pay the $2.95 fee to get my voucher... Of course, he was willing to accept any major credit card. Unfortunately, when I reply STOP to opt out of these things, it does no good. Each time, the text msg with an amazing offer comes from a different number. All of them lead back to "Central Rewards"

How did you end up getting out of it? Did you close your bank account? How much did they charge you? I recently fell for this scam and I closed my bank account, what else should I be worried about?

After you blocked your card and canceled it, did you see any other charges on your account?

Attempted to call my area telephone company today when a person answered explaining that my telephone company was experiencing difficulting and would be with me shortly, and that I had won 200 dollars in gas rewards. I blindly gave them my debit card number, having been caught-up in the moment when that sick feeling you get set-in when you know you have done something stupid. My telephone company was of no assistance. However, I regrouped quickly and had the presence of mind to call my bank immediately and had my debit card cancelled. There was only a dollar charged thus far from these crooks to my account. This is a scam and you need to cancel your credit card immedately.

    Tricked by Central Rewards
Please listen to me. I had no idea when I called that I was talking to Central Rewards until it was too late, I thought I was talking to my health insurance (which it turned out I mis-dialed by a digit) and they told me they would transfer me to my insurance rep, but while I was waiting they asked if I would like a $200 gas card for being with them for so long. I agreed and next thing I know I was transfered more times than I can count. I tried to get out of it and they told me I couldn't. I was crying on the phone and DON WALLACE (if that's your name) told me I was stuck and tough luck. Hung up. Called my lawyer. Cancelled my card. Called them back. Told them they were [***]. And called it a day.

    Very Wary
This scheme was tried on me today. Online trying to contact Verizon for repair, site said problems contact later,I see 1-800-481-0387 at the top of the page, so I call.  Foreigner answers says as a verizon customer you have been selected to receive $200. gas card & 2 $25.00 gifts cards to use wherever you choose all for $2.95 one time charge. When we have finished explaining the program we will conect you with Verizon Customer Service to finish your call. When I got to the verification stage, I got suspicious and started asking if Verizon had approved this program, over and over again, he tried to avoid answering, sent me back to the previous agent who said "Yes" when I answered question but refused to say the words this is Verizon authorized. Longer story short, I agreed to the 1st part and when they added on additional items I screamed NO,NO,NO.It takes me back to the verification guy who says I must say yes to all!I tell him no, this must be some kind of scam. He quickly gives me verification almost to quickly to write down and said it has been authorized. I hang up and immediately dial the credit card company, report the scam, they close the account number as we spoke. There was already a charge for $1.00 from GREATMAGVALU8876.  I go back to the verizon page to call them, and the number is different, it is now an 888 number.  So also beware of contact numbers on the Internet.

These guys have dopped me too with their central rewards and magazine plus scam and have stuck on my $81 they have charged my debit!they promised me a $500 voucher and another one of $50 for just $4.99,in the end they charged my account $2.95 twice followed by $25 and 49.95... all almost at the same time! They refused to refund me that because i was supposed to review their site for 7days and cancel but i didn't. The fact is that even in their call i didn't here such. Well, it is a lesson to learn, but may God deal with their hearts.CENTRAL REWARDS AND MAGAZINE PLUS ARE A SCAM!please be warned.I wonder how they get legallised.

This Central Rewards is a Scam! It happened to me. I called my Sam's Discover credit business # to ask a question about my monthly statement with them. The phone # was on my statement and that is the # I called. The man that answered had a heavy Indian accent. I told him I was calling about a question I had on my Discover statement. He said while I was waiting he wanted to tell me about a great special (a $200.gas card) for only $2.95 and that I would also recieved a savings booklet. Like a fool I did give him my Visa #, I started having second thoughts and told him I didn't want what he was selling and to please cancel everything, He said he couldn't. I hung up and he called me back. I then tried calling the phone # he gave me with no results. I went to my bank and told about this, this scam had already put $25.00 and $49.95 on my card. So I have
filed a disput with my visa card for these charges and had the bank close
my visa account. I will file a complaint with the FCC about this, Don't get fooled by this scam, like I did. I thought it was conected to the Sam's Club Discover, when I called them they said they don't do promotions like that and that I must have called a wrong # when I was trying to contact them.

oh my gosh, I just got the same call now.  And the guy was trying to talk me into it.  I glad I lied to him that I did not have any card on me. I can just discern from his voice when he kept saying,"Ok,Ok, Ok" throughout that made me suspicious and asked for the company name does why I got to this site.  I glad people have experience it before to set as a lesson to me. Thank God.

Gave them my debit card # and then thought about it and changed my mind so I ended up calling my bank and canceling my card before they charged it. They called back about 6 more times after that trying to change my mind but finally gave up.

These people are criminals who steal money from innocent people.
I tried to cancel with them and was told that the only way to cancel was to pay a $599.00 fee. They also use several different 800 phone numbers. So just be aware of these scams!!!!!!!
