Today I received a text msg asking me if I would like a $200 Gas Voucher. It provided a toll free number to call for details: 877-764-7978. I have received 6 different text messages this year, with similar promises. I called the number, the person on the other end with a foreign accent, claimed to work for "Central Rewards" and proceeds to tell me for a one-time fee of $2.95 I would get a $200 gas voucher, good anywhere. Sarcastically, I said that it sounds too good to be true! I asked him how I pay the $2.95 fee to get my voucher... Of course, he was willing to accept any major credit card. Unfortunately, when I reply STOP to opt out of these things, it does no good. Each time, the text msg with an amazing offer comes from a different number. All of them lead back to "Central Rewards"

i've recieved 6 messages b/t mid nov. and dec., all text msgs to my phone with different phone numbers, all the numbers start out as 877-207-and then the numbers all change. same message talking to them, indian accent, the last one told central reward is located in clearwater fl. Offering $200 for $2.95 or a $25 gift card...just please use your credit card. I've filed every complaint with this bogus do not call regestry, havent heard a thing, contacted the FTC to file a complaint but their number asks the same question as the do not call regestry complaint form, and last but not least i called fraud alert in florida 1-888-382-1222 and get the message "this number cannot be reached from my area" hahahaa......is this a joke or what???

DON'T FALL FOR IT! I filled out an online survey thinking it was a promotion on youtube (contacted youtube afterwards and found out I had mistyped the URL www.youtub.com). Got a text to call a 877 number like everyone above. Those Indian guys will offer you 200$ in gas vouchers or a gift card to a major retailer... in exchange for your credit card number, address, and phone number. DON'T BE STUPID!!!!! They will sell your info to other companies, open new credit cards in your name...next thing you know there'll be debt collecting agencies knocking at your door and you'll spend the rest of your life trying to rebuild your credit.

All scammers are the same...convincing BIG FAT LIARS. JUST HANG UP ALREADY!!

    # If someone you don't know calls you on the telephone and offers you the chance to receive a "major" credit card, a prize, or other valuable item, but asks you for personal data -- such as your Social Security number, credit card number or expiration date, or mother's maiden name -- ask them to send you a written application form.
    # If they won't do it, tell them you're not interested and hang up.
    # If they will, review the application carefully when you receive it and make sure it's going to a company or financial institution that's well-known and reputable. The Better Business Bureau can give you information about businesses that have been the subject of complaints.

    Mine money - not yours
Just recieved the $200 voucher text for a small fee from 1-913-669-2544 asking me to call 1-877-673-0148.  Now I was raised to understand that nothing is for free and, at most, the best you will ever do is to get your monies worth if your lucky.  If something sounds too good to be true, it is.  These people are criminals looking to take advantage of anyone they can.

I received two text messages from 210-544-3750 and 262-744-2447 both stated that I will receive a $200 gas voucher and to call 1-877-673-0148.  Obviously I didn't do so.  I did go to donotcall.gov and filed a complaint as my phone is registered not to receive sales calls.  Text messages cost money!  Hopefully the Do Not Call Registry will do something about this.  Whatever you do, DO NOT CALL THE 877 NUMBER AND DO NOT REPLY TO THE TEXT.

UPDATE: File a complaint with the FCC.  I just did.  It only takes a couple of minutes to complete.  Not sure what good it will do but if they get enough of them, the FCC may crack down on these losers.  Here is a link to the FCC spam text complaint form:

    http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/canspam.html

It's submitted electronically.  Please do something about this otherwise they won't stop trying to scam people.

I just called twice, an indian guy answered the first time and gave me some crap about wanting $2.95 for the offer, i offered to send him a money order if he gave me the address.....He hung up on me.

I called back a second time and an Indian lady answered, i asked her if i could have the name of her "Company Website" she told me that i have to give her my name, address anf bank details first then she would forward me to the "Verification Dept" for that info. I declined and demanded she sent me to the verification dept first to get the website and she told me not to call back because i was wasting my time and hers.

I THINK YOU SHOULD CALL JUST TO F**K WITH THEM A LITTLE!!!! lol

I got this text today...I called and was told I needed to pay them the 2.95, I told them I wasn't interested and that I was on to them and their scam.  I mentioned that the word was spreading like a wild fire about their scam and that I was now able to hop on the bandwagon to file a complaint with the FCC!  I them hung up.  Oh, and my guy's name was "Steven"...yea, right!

The way these scammers approached me was a phone call from "Mr. Alex Wilson" (whose Punjabi accent was almost impossible to penetrate) congratulating me on "winning" a "$500 voucher" for "grazzries" (the Punjabi pronunciation of "groceries").  I love to play along with these things, but always draw the line at giving personal info, especially a credit card number -- which "Mr. Wilson" said was necessary to pay the $4 "processing fee" for my "shipment."  The guy was literally screaming at me not to hang up.  Googling and Binging "Central Rewards" in "Pembroke, Florida" naturally leads to nowhere.  what surprises me about this scam is that so many people actually give these [***] their credit card number.  Seriously, you have no one to blame but yourself.  Welcome to America, aka Scam Central.
