Text message promising a $200 gas voucher

Today I received a text msg asking me if I would like a $200 Gas Voucher. It provided a toll free number to call for details: 877-764-7978. I have received 6 different text messages this year, with similar promises. I called the number, the person on the other end with a foreign accent, claimed to work for "Central Rewards" and proceeds to tell me for a one-time fee of $2.95 I would get a $200 gas voucher, good anywhere. Sarcastically, I said that it sounds too good to be true! I asked him how I pay the $2.95 fee to get my voucher... Of course, he was willing to accept any major credit card. Unfortunately, when I reply STOP to opt out of these things, it does no good. Each time, the text msg with an amazing offer comes from a different number. All of them lead back to "Central Rewards"

That's. Nt good
A few days later I received a packet in the mail saying I signed up for 8 magazines for $50/month in charges. I called 877-652-2168 and there was an automated cancellation option in the service menu (because I was still in the "trial" period). I am still trying to confirm its cancellation.
I also received a second package with fitness DVDs. There was a different #800-390-7660 to cancel subscription - this line had a live person to speak with to cancel the subscription. They cancelled the account, gave me a cancellation # to confirm.
What a royal pain. I've added all my phone numbers to the FCC "DO NOT CALL" registry -888-382-1222.
All I can say is take immediate action if this happens to you!
Probably three weeks ago i called them and listened to all the info they were trying to give patiently (which you dont have) For your information I received my package yesterday and yes I am using the gas voucher and the reason why they are giving this is that along with the gas voucher you would receive a free trial for their discounting service. You can try out the service if you dont like it call up the customer care no. and cancel the trial and all you would be charged is 2.95 however if you dont cancel there would some monthly fees for the service. But regardless of your decision your gas v is yours to use.
Dont you think its a fair business?
They are giving the gift to check out their services.
And guess what you are under no obligation.
In my city, I've now run into the same (white American) guy twice who's gig is asking someone to "help" (i.e., pay for) him to get a can of Fix-a-Flat - and it has to be a special kind of Fix-a-Flat because he has "special" rims on his truck (maybe he spent all his money on the rims and now he can't afford the Fix-a-Flat!). These 2 encounters were more than 2 weeks apart, but the story remained the same. Seems like a long time to have a flat tire if you ask me - especially if you have "special" rims - you can't show them off!
And don't get me started on what another particular ethnic group in my city will ask you for (you're familiar with the fillings out of your teeth?) Come to think of it, they often have gold teeth - wonder how they afford those? Hmmm...
Bottom line is that if you think people of ALL races, nationalities and cultures won't try to scam you, YOU indeed are the fool! Don't get caught up in the ethnic (or similar) non-essentials - focus on and deal with the issue. And while you're at it, learn to spell!
Every one of you are correct. Central Rewards, Inc. is the biggest "Scam" ever!!!! I want to say "Sorry" to everyone who fell for this B.S. I began working for them in Jan '11. I had just gotten off unemployment and needed the job. At first it wasn't bad but became worse. I just walked off the job today. I have put in a formal complaint to the BBB in Florida. They are sending me my packet today. I have never walked off a job ever . . . but not sleeping at night . . . has taken it's toll. I will do everything I can to stop what is going on!!!! OH, and just for the record, they are not located in Florida . . . They are located in Antioch, CA and Cynthia Adams doesn't exist.
They must be psychic. I remember thinkin' if they ask me for my soc sec # I'm hangin' up. They never did, but I gave them my card # so I do have a new card now. I gave them my phone # wondering why & the next day the first call they said they wanted to give me a tracking # for my package. I told them I didn't WANT to track the package that they could feel free to if they liked, but if they called me again I would consider it harassment. They called back 4 more times.
I'd like to give them a virus.
