I recently realized that I was being billed $12.95 from MNI Credit Reporting on a monthly basis.  I have NEVER used an online reporting tool for my credit score.  Even scarier, there seems to be hundreds of complaints regarding this company throughout the web.  After calling them and being put on hold for over 30 minutes, I decided to try again with similar results.  It appears that this company steal your information, and then you can't reach them to cancel the billing.  If the charge is recurring your credit card company can not get your money back - they deem it as user negligence.  Proceed with MNI and FreeCreditReport.com with caution - They are a slippery group of thieves!

First I got a charge for 14.95, Then for 19.95 for the next two months.  I called my card company and they called Experian.  Experian refused to speak to them and would only speak to me.  So I called and Experian told me that Tammy Groom ordered services from them.  Amazing.  They know that's not my name and yet they charge you.  What a bunch of thieves.  I think they count on people not checking their statements carefully.  Even if they have to refund your money, they still have it for a month or two.

No, it's a bogus charge, not something we signed up for. I use the free alerts on my CC and bank account so I know if I get an odd charge. The experian charges just showed up on two of my credit cards charged on the exact same date in December. I bet they think people won't notice an extra charge on their cards around the holidays.  I'm disputing the charge with both CC companies and canceling the cards. I'll probably also file a fraud alert at all three credit reporting agencies. Once you put a fraud alert on your account (free of charge) they will reject any attempts to open new credit accounts in your name unless they can call you and verify that you are the person requesting it. Amazing. Saw the charge, did a search for the phone number and saw the fraudulent activity through Experian. I called my bank with this info, and they shut down my credit card. I'm on hold with Experian right now, and mentioned the amount of fraudulent activity that they have to the guy who answered. I got a little sarcastic, mentioning that this is happening every day, and wouldn't they do something about it? He insisted that it wasn't their fault, only the Tara N, and Kimberly D who had supposedly stolen my card number. Now I'm on hold to talk to the supervisor. Gotta say, total scam!

OMG - I just opened my cc stmt and am on hold with the cc company first; one $14.95 USD Charge on Dec 5, and one $19.95 USD Charge on Dec 7 - on a credit card I don't even use!  And I certainly can confirm my whereabouts on both those days and my computer usage... So it will be interesting to see what my credit card company says and then I can start with Experian too!  Thanks everyone for their posts, this is definately a breach!

Just received a letter on Experian letterhead apologizing for a delay in processing my "order."  To activate my account, all I need to do is go to http://www.creditreport.com/dni.  I have never been to creditreport.com, nor would I - especially since this isn't even a secure site (i.e., http instead of https)!  The phone number to call with questions is 877-297-7790, the same number listed here. I wonder if Experian knows the creditreport.com crooks are using their name and logo (except the print on the letter I have is in black and white instead of color)...

I received the same letter today. Again, I did not create an account nor request. I think this should be considered fraud on the companies part. Too bad someone doesn't report it. I shredded mine and will never deal with that company.

I just saw some of the more recent posts - yup, looks like Experian knows and just isn't doing anything.  Be careful!

All I did was get my annual free credit report - AnnualCreditReport.com
The Fair Credit Reporting Act guarantees you access to your credit report for free from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies — Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion — every 12 months. However, a month or so later I found a re-occuring charge on my credit card from EXPERIAN *CREDITREP 877-2977790 CA as shown on my statment. After calling them and giving some information, they couldn't find me in the system, they did not have any account associated with my name, address, etc. So I called my credit card company and fileda fraud claim, and should be my money back in 3-5 days and new cards in the mail in 7-10 days. Credit card companies and their associates are scum!

I had the same problem so many others have reported - a $19.95 charge and a $14.95 charge, both to Experian by someone named Brianna (complete stranger).  I went in to my bank branch with a copy of the online bank printout showing unauthorized charges and a letter to the bank listing the charges, amounts, and other info for transactions and asking their help dealing with these fraudulent charges.  The bank looked up the charges on my account which gave me the legitimate Experian number to call.  I had to verify my name and debit card number for Experian to look up my account - and they found both charges and agreed to a refund.  The bank put a fraud alert on my card to prevent any further charges, so I have to wait for a reissue now.

Bottom line is that this most often happens while people shop online.  Some criminal hacks into a commercial website's databank or otherwise acquires debit/credit card info and makes unauthorized charges.  Besides checking your account activity frequently, other steps to take:
    * shop online only at legitimate sites; look for the lock to designate SSL protection but also make sure you know the site
    * when using your card in person, never let someone (like a waiter) take it out of your presence and/or scan it more than once
    * if you have it out to use and are waiting in line, turn it upside down so people behind you can't see it and copy your name/number or take a digital photo

This is getting so commonplace that it's no longer convenient to shop online because there is always a chance someone will scam your info.  Stay wary!!

Was checking my statement and saw a 19.95 charge from Experian on 1/1.  Reported the fraud to my cc company and am calling Experian tomorrow.

I read the fine print and saw the (temporary) $1 hold, so I wasn't worried about that. I cancelled after 5 days, so didn't have to worry about the $13 monthly charge (their cancellation is more disgusting than AOL's).

But what really worried me was that initially, it gave me one choice for a credit report (I signed up through Mint), and that one report didn't say anything about a charge. It cost $29.95. The second time I went through the process, it did actually warn me about the charge. I tried talking to them about it, but they obviously don't care. I hope they go to the way of AOL. Same type of scam.

This just happened to me at the end of November with an AMEX. There was a charge of $21.70 for an Experian credit report that I never ordered. The transaction phone number was the same as everyone here has cited. About two weeks later two unauthorized charges for some Norton software were billed to my account. I contacted the fraud department and the charges have been removed and the card canceled.

Just happened to me also, on my credit card in December, and them my Wife's. 2 separate charges from experian.com. We never use these CC on-line. Also I do not understand how Experian can charge those credit cards when the name does not match, and without the CCV number. I hope Experian will face a lawsuit soon, as canceling an replacing a card is inconvenient.

How does this continue to happen over such a long period of time.  Who can be contacted to actually shut this down.  My credit card statement showed a charge of $31.82, $5.00, and $2.00 pending that I never authorized or knew anything about.  When I call the number for Experian, I was told that somebody named "Reginald J" had authorized it.  I have put a stop on my credit card and asked for a new one, but would like to know if anyone is legally pursuing this scam.

One of my friends and I meet same fraud charge from so-called Experian Creditreport (877-2977790). This happened in December 2011 and January 17. I disputed the charge with bank. They took the money back.
These fraud should be investigated and stopped as soon as possible.

    Ongoing Scam
Had the "19.95 Experian *Credit report" charge show up on my credit card statement. I have never done any business with the company or any other credit reporting company for that matter.  I called my credit card and they put me on hold to call the company at the 877 number listed. They couldn't get ahold of anyone and said they would credit my account the money and block further charges from this bogus company. Just an FYI, this appeard on my cc statement on 1/5/12, so apparently this scam is still going on.

Spotted a charge on credit card statement:

Purchase Experian *CreditRepo / 877-2977790 CA Date 01/02/12

I haven't done anything with credit reports for months, and when I have, I've been very careful not to subscribe to any paid services. I e-mailed Experian and they couldn't find me as a customer in their records, but suggested maybe I did business with another company with a name similar to Experian. If by similar you mean identical, no, I haven't. Fraud!

I too had the same type of charges on my card, out of the blue, nothing I had purchased for $19.95.  When you call the number they ask for your CC # by someone in the Phillipines.  I called my bank, they will dispute the charges, but they advised me to call Experian directly off of a phone number on their website.  These charges are a total scam and a way for people to pull up your identity from your credit report and gather all of your information.  So BEWARE and call your CC company immediately to report the fraud and protect yourself.
Good luck and hope these people doing this scam will be stopped ASAP, I do not believe that they are affiliated with the real Experian corporation.

12/19/2011 I went to the free credit report website to pull up my credit report for a job interview. In going through the process I did put in my credit card number but did not click submit. I didn’t like that they were asking for it, it was supposed to be free. I exited out not getting a copy of the report.  About a week later I checked my bank acct online founding $19.95 taken from my acct by Experian. I called the toll free #, and requested a refund. Customer service explained that she could not refund my money; it was past the trial period. I told her to cancel any membership they say I have with them, I didn’t want it, I still don’t, I was expecting a refund, this account closed. 1/21/2012 I checked my online bank acct and on 1/18/2012 Experian withdrew $18.95 I called the toll free number again. Customer service told me that it was already explained to me that they could not refund my money and that I do still have an acct with them. She was present in this we hung up. I called back asking to speak with a mgr. The mgr proceeded to explain to me that they have a failsafe system and that I am a member. I again explained to her that I do not want this and that I was reporting them to the BBB. At that time she said for my inconvenience she would give me a discount on the program. I again explained that I do not want the service I want a refund.
