Fraudulent Charge
Complaint
A. Maurelli
Country: United States
I recently realized that I was being billed $12.95 from MNI Credit Reporting on a monthly basis. I have NEVER used an online reporting tool for my credit score. Even scarier, there seems to be hundreds of complaints regarding this company throughout the web. After calling them and being put on hold for over 30 minutes, I decided to try again with similar results. It appears that this company steal your information, and then you can't reach them to cancel the billing. If the charge is recurring your credit card company can not get your money back - they deem it as user negligence. Proceed with MNI and FreeCreditReport.com with caution - They are a slippery group of thieves!

On another note, and I'm not sure if it is related to this scam of a "company," but after I signed up with www.creditreport.com, I got two fraudulent charges on my Amex-one for $4,000+ from Japan, and then $15 from Great Britain. Good thing the fraud department called me to verify before approving. A new card is being sent, but with www.creditreport.com having all of my personal information, I wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg.
* feel like people are trying to do a scam at ever corner*
How come thay cannot be stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say what happened to me was "someone" got my CC number and ordered a report to see if the number was current and active. They asked for my last 4 of my SSN and the numbers did not match the numbers in their computer system. That means "someone" has my CC number but not my accurate SSN. They explained this is a form of fraud and recommended I cancel my CC number immediately, which I did. I got a promise that the $14.95 would be credited as well.
We canceled the credit card, and reported the incident to our state Attorney General fraud department.
I was told it was fraud. I asked if it was someone from their company who stole my credit card number. Answer was "No." I asked if they were able to link my cc# to whomever was trying to get services from them by using my cc#. Answer was "No" and they would have to do an investigation to see. I told rep I would call back to get the information. Rep made it seem like I was so careless about my cc#.

my husband and I set up a checking account to use strictly for vacationing. We set the account up months ago and have only had $5 in it, planned on putting money in it and using it in January when we go away. We have never used either of the debit cards, only thing we did was activate them when they came in the mail then locked them away. I was shocked when I got an email from my bank letting me know this account was almost $100 overdrawn because of two $14.95 charges from this company on top of $35 overdraft fees for each. We called the fraud dept of our bank, didn't bother trying to contact the company ourselves. Our bank refunded all the $$, filed a fraud claim, and sent it to their investigation dept. They also told us there were 3 other attempted charges from that company that were declined.
We've never used that website or the card that was charged... makes me wonder how in the world someone got my husband's information.
I never even used the card -- except to close the account on them.
