We have been receiving unwanted phone calls from Northland Group since 5/18/2007. They call from 1-866-380-8783 every day and ask for a person whose name I've never heard before.

It seems as someone used our address and phone number in their loan application, and Northland Group is trying to collect the debt.

For some reason people from Northland Group refuse to believe that the person they are looking for is not leaving with us, and continue their harassing calls.

I submitted my complaint to FTC, but I thought I should also let know here about this issue.

    I just received a notice from Northland Group Inc. that says they will settle with me, Rochelle Mortillaro, on my debt of $749.43 on my Capital One Bank Card for only $449.64! AWESOME! Only I'm not Rochelle, never had a Capital One Card, and I don't owe anyone anything. Beware of scams!!

    I get probably four calls a week...in the middle of the day when real people are working...and they never leave a message.  I figure "Good for them; run up your telephone bills."  I don't owe anyone so they can just keep calling, log their records that they are doing something and take up their time that could be spent doing something productive.  These aren't the types that would be employed elsewhere so at least someone is paying them and they are off the public dole.

    First, harassing phone calls are a mundane issue. Write them a cease and decist letter. Then go to radio shack and buy a recording device for your cell or home phone for $30.00. If they call again, record them and sue them. It will be $1,000.00 for every infraction. Make sure you send the letter certified with return service requested. People nail these agencies constantly so join the club and do it.

    Second, I see this common myth and perception that consumers are "punishing" agencies by "running up their phone bills". Bzzt, completely untrue. Research the profit centers that these companies are. A leading company purchased 104.2 million in portfolio debts that is worth, at full value, 3 billion dollars. Do the math.

    Broken down into averages... your $500 dollar debt was purchased for no more than $10 - $15. Think about that when you get a "settlement deal" for $200.00.

    Debt collection agencies only survive for the same reason the "pet rock" made millions... "the stupidity of the American consumer".

    They also called my friend. This northland group [***] called him asking for his last four digits of his social security number refusing to say who they are or what they do. He had difficulty understanding what the person from northland was saying because he sounded like Pakistani; his accent was heavy. He decided to report them to the FBI. This company is a real threat. They are asking people for their social security numbers and they are insisting too. These guys need to stop harassing people.

    Gosh these guys NG are real scam !! we call them talk to them for an hour tell them to remove our number from their system and that lady ( with an indian name ) keeps ignoring our requst and try to get our info. This northland company is full of indians and pakistanis and other nationalities who can not even speak clear English. They are SCAM.

    I want to let you GUYS KNOW THAT A LADY WHO SPOKE FROM NORTHGROUP INC AND SHE HAD INDIAN ACCENT SAID THAT SHE IS CALLING FROM THE HEADQUARTER IN MUMBAI !!! SHE GOT ANGRY WHEN SHE KNEW WE WOULD CALL THE FBI.

    - NORTHLAND IS CLEARLY A SCAM. BE AWARE OF IDENTITY THEFT.
    - MOST OF THOSE WHO KEEP CALLING US ARE EITHER PAKISTANIS OR INDIANS NATIONALS.
    -THEY GET ANGRY AND RUDE IF YOU TELL THEM TO [***] OFF.

    Exactly ! My fiance tried to talk to them too. They are ignorants and defensive. The funniest part was when an indian lady ( her name was rashma ) said that northland group headquarter is located in Mumbai !!!!!!

    Same thing happened with me. They refused to give any information about them or their company but they demanded to give them my info. They are bunch of indians and pakistanies and chinese. They are trying to steal our info to use it for illegal immigrants, this what i believe.
