Country: United States
I got a call on my cell phone regarding credit card debt relief. . I was transferred to nakisha,  asked if I wanted to continue, they asked for $600 or $60.00 to send me the paperwork and for the consultation. When I asked them what it was for she said they would deduct from my first payment but would not tell me what the money was for FINALLY SHE  said yes.

THE FIRST TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD APPLY TO MY CREDITORS BUT WHEN THEY CONVINCED ME TO RECORD MY VOICE THAN THEY SAID IT WAS ONLY A FEE FOR THE CONSULTATION!!!

. No fees should be sent to anyone for additional information requested on a company or program

she has been harrasing me telling that i have to pay this amount or else! and that they can take me to court becaues they have my voice accepting!! !  unfortunally i gave many personal information!!
what happends now??
i never signed anything!!!!

Michael Metzner is the contact on the BB's site for the above company/s.  I'm helping a friend to avoid these guys, too.  Fortunately she hasn't signed anything yet.  That didn't stop them from claiming they had already taken payment.  Bunch of crooks...

Here is the 100% truth. I know because I am helping a client deal with this company right now. Consumer Law Group advertises in many phone books with a local phone number under the name "Consumer Credit Counseling". They do this because "Consumer Credit Counseling Service or CCCS" is a legitimate non-profit credit counseling agency and CLG wants to confuse people into calling them instead. You can find a legitimate Consumer Credit Counseling Service near you by going to www.nfcc.org. All CCCS agencies are members of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and have very low fees.

Here in my state, Consumer Law group has 19 local phone numbers all under the name "Consumer Credit Counseling". When you call, you are transferred to Boca Raton, Florida. CLG is a debt settlement company. You pay them usually around $5000 (depending on yoru debt) as a fee in monthly payments. They take all of their fees first so your creditors get nothing while they are taking their fee. They do not call your creditors to negotiate during this time because your debt has to be "sufficiently delinquent" in order for creditors to work out a settlement. Not paying your creditors for months or years completely destroys your credit. Payments you make to CLG after the fee is paid go into a trust account that is used to settle with your creditors after that. If you are sued in the process, CLG will do nothing for you and will tell you to hire your own attorney. The fee you paid them does not cover them representing you in your lawsuit. You may not get collection calls because your creditors are sent cease and desist letters prohibiting them from calling you. They often have no other choice but to sue you.

Here's my advice: If you really want to do debt settlement, call your creditors directly and work out something. Bank of America, Chase, and American Express have all told me that they will not give any better deal to a debt settlement company. Save the fees and negotiate a settlement yourself. If you want to improve your credit by paying back your debt on a plan that your creditors actually agree to, call the real CCCS. Yes, you will pay back all of the money you owe but you will not be destroying your credit in the process.

The people that said they called CCCS and were routed to Consumer Law Group did not call the real CCCS. You called Consumer Credit Counseling, which is a front for Consumer Law Group. CCCS will have an office in your city or state.

For the people who say they love Consumer Law Group, you must work there. If you were a legitimate company, you would not have to rely on deceitful advertising to trick people who are only looking for help into contacting you.

Even though I do not agree with the tactics used by Consumer Law group, I do have to say that I have reviewed their contract that our client signed. Everything is explained and spelled out pretty clearly. My point is: READ EVERYTHING and make sure you understand it before you sign anything!!!

Sorry...one more thing: For you attorneys that have been contacted by Michael Metzner, I can tell you why. Debt settlement or "debt pooling" as it is known in some states is illegal unless it is done by a "duly licensed attorney" in that state. Michael Metzner from Consumer Law Group is contacting you to see about contracting with you so they can get around those laws and practice in your state.

I got a call from them today I have been reading these complaints. If you don't sign anything it should not be legal? They did record are conversation but that is no binding?

You must work for them. Consumer Law Group has a C- grade with the BBB & the company they send things to (Global Client Soultions) has an F grade with the BBB. Sounds like these "angels" are far from that!

If you didn't sign the contract, it should not be legally binding if you don't want to go through with it. I hope you didn't give them your checking account number...if not, you should be fine. If so, you may want to contact the bank to have them watch for unauthorized charges.

By the way, if you did only verbally agree to it and you did give them your checking account info, I would definitely recommend that you sign ONLY the cancellation page. It won't hurt. You have 10 days to change your mind even if you did sign the contract. Be sure you follow the specific instructions they give on how to cancel. RUN from these people!

Consumer Law Group advertises as "Consumer Credit Counseling" in many phone books across the country with local numbers but they all transfer to Boca Raton, FL. It is NOT the same as your local, legitimate, non-profit Consumer Credit Counseling Service. CLG advertises like that to confuse people. To find the REAL CCCS near you, go to www.nfcc.org.

I did not sign any of the papers, but did send  a signed cancellation paper by mail and fax., that is if the fax was a good number. certified mail and asked for a confirmation on the fax which I did not get. How can they take money out of your account without authorization in writing?
