I was called after 10p.m.when my one and only grandson was in the hospital with phemonia and a virus. I had spent 9 plus hours a day for the last 3 days, and got this phone call. At first I thought it was a friend of mine. I have no idea how they got all my information. They tried to make it sound like I had ordered magazines from them before. I hadn't. I had asked for the phone number and email address neither of which was good. Then I started getting phone calls from the company the phone rang 3 or 4 times and when I picked it up they would listen awhile and hang up. I had put a cancell on the check after giving them a specific check number. A four digit number. They got it by the bank by putting a whole different six digit number. When I finally was able to get to the bank and get a copy of the check with the correct name and number of company on it and called since it is in the 30 days I have to cancell the order the lady threatened me with a collection agencey for the whole $600.00 and that was for five mags. Unbelievable. I'mgoing to report them to the better business bureau.

I too have received multiple calls from these scam artists. It starts out as a phone recording asking you to press one (1) to have your percentage rate reduced. Once you talk to anyone there they keep talking and talking to try and get you to give a credit card number, and if you don't or if you tell them that you are on the national do not call list they hang up on you and call again in a couple of days. After extensive research I have discovered that this scam is being run by this company in Arizona called Ambrosia Website Design.

This is a link to their website:
      http://www.ambrosiawebdesign.com/

      This is their contact information:
      Ambrosia Website Design LLC
      2906 S Revere Circle
      Mesa, AZ 85210
      (888) 583-1956

I have called them repeatedly and was finally able to get someone to answer the phone and he admitted that they are Card Member Services, and once I threatened to report them, he promised to stop the calls.

Just wondering how you found out it was Ambosia Web Design. I am at my wits end with these calls. Did contacting this company stop the calls to you? Reporting to do not call did not help as they use several numbers. Earlier this week they called 4 times in one day and twice just this morning. This company needs to be stopped.
        Thanks!

The number will get you "AWD" which is, according to the woman I spoke with the same as "card member services". She seemed a little put out that I called but assured I would be removed from their list after I told her I was forwarding all my information to the State Attorney General. Time will tell.

I finally found out who they were when they called and I played along with them as if I was going to use their service. I was polite and just asked routine questions. Who am I speaking with? What company do you represent? Then I googled Card Member Services and called the number they provided and went through the prompts like a customer trying to get account service. Once I had a live person I told them that I wanted the calls to stop. She assured me they would but, we'll have to wait and see.
          Good Luck.

I have also talked with a live person and was assured the calls would stop.  Weeks later I am still getting several calls from various phone numbers.  Yesterday I got a letter in the mailed that showed the amount I owe on all cards and said they could lower my payments to half of what I am paying now.  I've never given them any information.  Is the Attorney General who we should contact?

I, too, have received dozens of calls from this organization saying they are Card Member Services.  I pushed #1 just to tell them I'm on the do not call list and to stop calling.  That was in 2011.  I still receive calls approximately once a month.  One caller called me a "[***]" when I complained about the calls after I told them to remove me from their list. It is extremely frustrating.  Thanks for the information.

If you have an Android, download the free App called "Call Filter". It is great. These scammer guys use and setup different area codes all the time. I use Call Filter to simply block entire area codes that completely stop receiving these calls. If somebody really needs to call you, they can leave a message.

I am currently blocking around 121 area codes. If there is a centralized blocking database somewhere, we should add it there then all can start using it. It would put these guys out of business by greatly reducing their marketing response targets to nothing. LOL............

If it was a matter of a call once it a while it would be easy.  We are elderly.  We receive  3 to 4 calls a day from them in addition to other marketing calls.  They are rude and abusive.  They have now begun to call our cell phone on which we have limited minutes so we are paying for the privilege.  They pretended to be calling with Visa and Mastercard today and I asked how to get them to stop calling and the foreign gentleman told me I could fly over there and ring his neck if I wanted to ( his suggestion not mine).  I expect someone else had threatened to. Yesterday they said they got our name from Equifax.  They denied knowing anything about it.

I began calling some of the numbers back and they say press 1 to be put on THIER do not call list, as if the federal one isn't good enough. They call so much, from so many numbers, I don't think they remove your # at all.  I love it when people call.  I tell them  I'm glad they called and try to strike up a very nice conversation, telling them what I did today, telling them about my dog and maybe sounding a little [***] but very polite and wqanting to keep them on the phone.  You won't believe how fast they wanna get off and don't call back. if they wanna talk, its about stuff i wanna make them listen to!!!!!!!!!!

Just had a call ... same thing. Recording invited me to push "9" for information on lowering my interest rate. Got a man who was very pushy. I did say "No thank you" multiple times, along with "I'm not interested today." He argued with me! But why? When I mentioned the problems with identify theft he assured me he already HAD all my information. i told him I'd rather work directly with my credit card company. He said they would NEVER offer me a rate this low. What do you need from me to do this, I asked? Just that I continue to pay my minimum balances on time, he replied. I'm just not interested, thank you, I said again. To which he became very angry and was yelling at me. Finally when I said I was tired of talking to him and was simply not interested and did not like his tone, he said F*** You and hung up. Professional, NO. robbing people, probably. I just didn't go far enough to find the hook. This was undoubtedly some kind of a scam. A professional business responds well to I'm sorry, I'm not interested today (at least by the third time.) I do understand there are people out there just doing their job. That is why I listened to begin with. They  need to know that if I politely say I am not interested or no thank you multiple times they need to back off and politely hang up and go on with their day. Otherwise it certainly makes it look like those of us who are certain this is a scam are right.

My opinion is: This business seems to be very CROOKED. They refuse to identify themselves or the true location of their employer, which is the first red flag indicating they are not on the up and up.These people are sometimes RUDE and CRUDE when you are trying to establish credibility of the business. They want peoples Credit Card numbers to supposedly lower interest rates. It just seems they would want prospective clients to know they are a reputable business. But, that's not the case.  It all seems very fishy.

I feel like they are not honest because of their tactics. If I realized that the business I worked for was Crooked, I would walk out immediately. Working for a crooked business after you realize they are crooked, makes you just as crooked. If they are caught knowingly working for crooks, they could go to jail just as easily as their crooked bosses.

Of course they could just be an honest business that is slightly paranoid and feel everyone is against them when they are just trying to do their job.

I think I May be in trouble. Card member Services called today and finally got my last 4 digets of my social security #. Then wanted my card numbers. I stoped dead in my tracks and ask them why they needed them. They said they were with Chase and they got my number from them to call about lowering my interest rates. I almost gave them the numbers then stoped again and told them I did not want to do this. I told them I wanted to do some checking and they could call me back. The man on the phone started talking real fast and said he did not understand why I was acting the way I  was. I could not get him to shup up so I hung up. Then I found this site and the complants are stunning. I too am a senior citizen. I have been receiving these calls for a year now but this is the first time I have ever pushed the #1 and talked to anyone. Wish I had not done this. I am now scared they have my last 4 digets of my S.S.  Please anyone out there help me. The number he called from is now disconnected. I called back just minutes after I had hung up and they are not there. Help me  please.

I, too, made the mistake of actually beginning a dialogue with them and, like you, gave them some card information, SDS number, etc. The more questions they asked the more suspicious I got, however. I hung up on them and called Chase on my home phone. The Chase rep told me they DO NOT deal with any organization of this sort and if they called back to try to get them on the phone with Chase. Naturally, while I was talking to Chase the Card member people called back because I had hung up on them. When I told them I was on the phone with Chase, they hung up. The easiest solution was to cancel the account I had put in jeopardy and open a new account and thankfully I haven't had any problems. I still get several calls a week from Card Members, though.

You're completely missing the point that these calls are not only annoying but also illegal. That there are worse problems in the world is completely immaterial. You could just as well say that the thief who ripped off my copper downspout and sold it for scrap metal was a poor SOB just doing what he had to eat--but it's still illegal, and it still involves annoyance and inconvenience to me. Repeated, incessant annoyance calls DO affect the quality of life, and those who make them--both the companies who sponsor them and the "poor" peons who gladly take a job doing something they know to be illegal and obnoxious--deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law.

It still does not give them the right to annoy and bother  people on a continuous basis.  I got three calls today alone.  See my complaint above.  On top of that, the whole thing is a scam.  You have to pay a fee upfront based on a percent of what you owe.  Then after they have your money, if they fail to reduce your credit card balances, you don't get your money back.  What is the difference between some one robbing you or stealing from you?

Response to T9D4 ... Sure, it's easy to hang up. But, beyond the harassment, I have a real problem with their pitch. "Card Member Services" starts their pitch with "we're calling about your card" and the name implies they are part of a company I do business with. I understand that's not the case, but what about the thousand of other people out there that might not?

"Card Member Services" is trying to hide what they do (deceive people) to take advantage of them. "Everybody got to eat"?  Misleading people to get money is called stealing. Where's the morality in the world? Where's YOUR morality?

Seemingly small things like this chip away at society's sense of right and wrong. You probably can't understand that, but step back and give it a try.

If the calls were 1 time a month I can deal with that. However 3/4 calls a day after asking to be removed from calls is way to many. Calls come from a least 5 diff. states and when you dial the number you get number is not a working number. So shut up

Well, it IS HARRASSMENT.  It would be nice to spend my energy on more productive things, but these people are costing me money (cell phone minutes) and they call MANY times a day.  Sometimes within a few minutes of each other.  So, your sentiments are understood, but right now, I feel like I want to throw my phone (and maybe some other things) at someone.  Seriously, this is psychological warfare.  That's how bad it is.  We have privacy rights, and surely that is worth fighting for!!

I can't believe you are defending these people, they call me 2 and 3 times a day, and it's always at an inconvenient time, usually when I am cooking dinner or sometimes when I am outside and I have to run to answer, once they called when I was on top of a ladder painting. I have to answer my phone because I have grandchildren and children who may need my help. I have asked them continually to remove my number from their calling list, every time they hang up on me. I don't know where you're from but that's just poor business in the USA!

Ahh, but that is where you are wrong. They ARE robbing people! Taking personal information! They are scammers. They have no ethics. They call me on a daily basis, sometimes more than once in a day. We are on the no-call list. They use a recorded message (illegal) to solicit you.

I too have received dozens of calls from various numbers who identify themselves as " Card Member Services". When I ask their address, they hang up every time. I contacted the Federal Trade Commission today 7-11-2012 and was told there is an active investigation on this company. If you want to add to the complaints, call the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357 and lodge a complaint. This is the only way to stop this company. They pay no attention to the Do Not Call restrictions. I urge anyone who gets a call from them to call the FTC.

I wrote to the Texas Attorney General and got the following response.

I think it would be helpful if everyone receiving these calls would follow up with all these complaint procedures.

Thank you for your recent email.  We appreciate your contacting the
Office of the Attorney General of Texas.

You may wish to formally report the matter to this agency's Consumer
Protection Division (CPD) for review.  Please complete our consumer
complaint form online in the consumer protection section of our website
at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/consumer.  If additional information is
needed, CPD will contact you.  Your complaint will be kept on file to
assist us in monitoring business practices and in determining priorities
for enforcement efforts.  Please understand that we cannot represent
individuals in civil matters.  You may also wish to read the consumer
protection section of our website for more information on the complaint
        process and for additional options.

You can read about telemarketers and Do-Not-Call lists on our website
        at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/consumer/telemarketers.shtml.

You may wish to file a complaint about the no-call violation with the
        Public Utility Commission (PUC) at:
        www.puc.state.tx.us/ocp/telephone/donotcall.cfm or by calling (888)
        782-8477.

You can report a violation of the federal "no-call" list at
        www.donotcall.gov or by calling (888) 382-1222.

        Again, thank you for writing.

        Sincerely,

        Donna K. Lee

Call this guy, repeatedly.  (888) 583-1956

He will pick up the phone, but not say hello for a full minute, or more.

Once he answers, say, "Chris Ambrosia, I would like you to quit calling me with your Card Member Services scam."

He will tell you that he does not make outgoing phone calls.

Reply, "You and I both know that you are lying.  Does the "E" in "E. L. Norris" stands for "Emily" or "Elaine"? and does she know how you make your living?"

When I asked this, he erupted into a profanity-laced tirade.  When he calmed down, I told him that I would call him 10 times for every time that "Rachel" bothers me, in the future.

I'll return in two weeks to let you know if the calls have stopped.

I HOPE PEOPLE DON'T GET FRUSTRATED AND THINK THIS IS A NON-WORKING NUMBER. I HAVE CALLED IT AND TALKED TO SOMEONE AND 5 MINUTES LATER YOU CALL AND IT SAYS IT IS A NON WORKING NUMBER. OBVIOUSLY WHEN YOU AGGRAVATE THEM ENOUGH, THEY TURN IT OFF FOR A WHILE. DON'T BE DISCOURAGED. KEEP CALLING.

I reported them last week and this week. The attorney general said the FBI is currently investigating them. Call them  at 888-583-1956    They will lie and say they are not calling you, but it is them. I urge everyone, EVERY TIME THEY CALL YOU. CALL THEM BACK A DOZEN TIMES. TIE UP THEIR PHONE LINES SO THEY CAN'T BE BOTHERING OTHER PEOPLE AND CALLING AND WAKING UP THE BABIES.

I play along with their game.  When they ask for credit card information, I ask them to hold whil I go get my purse.  While they are waiting, I go about my business doing whatever it was I was doing before I stopped to answer the phone.  I figure they aren't going to quit, so I'll help everyone else as best I can.  While they are waiting for me to go find my card, everyone else gets a short break.  I've filed two official complaints with the DO NOT CALL REGISTERY, and I'll keep registering complaints.
