Vacation Club Membership
Complaint
Unhappy person
Country: United States
We went to a presentation for what we thought was a membership in a vacation club. If we joined this club we would be able to access condo, cruises, and resorts that we could rent for $299 for a 7 night/8days visit. Sales pressure was very high and we were never left alone to discuss joining this club. When we asked for privacy to discuss, the guy left and another took his place. They told us over & over this was a vacation club membership and they were not connected to a Timeshare group. MVG would even finance our loan at 0% interest and if we were not happy then they would refund our money. Great!! We were taken to an office and documents were presented to us to sign. Just a lot of legal steps(right). We would have to sign a license agreement to be able to use the software to search their listings. The software upgrades were to be $199 per year. So we paid $2,500 down and financed $3500 at 0% interest. No mention that we had three days to cancel(knew we were leaving the next morning).
Sounds pretty good doesn't it. Well here is the truth of the matter.
There is no club membership. You are buying a software license to search listing where the $299 places are out of the way places that no one wants to visit. MVG does not finance the load they outsource to Universal Account Servicing, LLC (rudest people I have ever had to chance to speak to). Software upgrades are $299 for the first year with a 10% increase every year. When I asked to cancel the club membership(written, certified letter)they did not pick the letter up. Next I sent it in a letter and Ian called and when asked about refund statement was "you do not have that in writing".
We are still trying to get out of this but I do not know if that is possible. Bad thing is that the lone person in the Welcome Center at Myrtle Beach sent us over to this group. Does anyone have any suggestions about canceling this? Yes, we know we are stupid people to have fallen for this scam.

We were greeted by Mark who identified himself as the owner and were led back to the conference room. His presentation was friendly and professional. He claims to not be a good salesman but trust me he is. I saw no locks on the door while we listened. When he said he would leave us alone to talk he stepped away about 15 ft(doesn't matter if he sat right there).
He did what ANY commission salesman does. He tried to earn a living.
He asked me what it would take for me to sign today. I told him I would not do it today. WHY? because I LEARNED NOT TO FOLLOW MY EMOTIONS TO MAKE A PURCHASE! Did he get up and put bars on the door? NO. We were polite to him and he was polite to us. If you get stuck in a contract,LEARN your lesson.
We walked out with our 90.00 and a genuine intent to present this to our family for a future group buy as Mark told us we could add up to four more heads of households at no additional cost.
I'm glad to be reading this blog however,I realize that nothing is ever onesided and will definately look closer before calling them about joining. My advice to all is to look at and read the final contract before signing it and get all agreements in writing before you sign.
He did tell us about the three day cancellation.
Thanks to all of you for your comments and to Mark or whoever is the owner, I will look into this through an attorney and if it checks out with him and my family is interested, we will be back.
I to got sucked in also. Did you get out of this mess and if you did how did you do it.
I made a complaint to the complaint board last week concerning the trickery and staff being derrogatory and uncooperative about the circumstance of my trip to your resort May 15, 2010. I am also filing a complaint with the Attorney General Office unless I hear from you. In short I WAS CHARGED $150 WRONGFULLY!!!! I did not receive a confirmation by email as promised prior to coming to Myrtle Beach and was told by your rep,Carrie, to come on down to Myrtle Beach and they would give me the info needed upon my arrival. I arrived on Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm, May 15th. I was given 2 pages with directions to the hotel and the tour resort; appointment for Sunday, May 16th at 9am. Upon arriving at the resort on Sunday morning I was told I would be excused from the tour because I did not have a blank check. Even though my ID, checkbook, and visa checkcard was checked and confirmed by the attendant on Saturday at Monster resort office as sufficient for the tour on Sunday. Therefore, I proceeded to hotel, where I found a line of about 15 people and an attendant with a nasty attitude. We waited for about 40 minutes to get a room because the rooms were not ready. Once getting inside the room there were cloth mildew chairs, which is a health hazard. I had upper respiratory problems already. I left the hotel the same day on Sunday when I was told I could not attend the tour. My reservations were scheduled for Saturday, May 15th through Monday, May 17th. On the following week I found out Monster charged my account extra $150 because I did not attend the tour per my phone conversation with Barb Ann,Mgr and Carrie, Rep. Again I did not receive a confirmation letter stating this information prior to coming to Myrtle Beach. I want my $150 refunded. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. I came to Myrtle Beach in good faith and mainly because a good friend had referred me. THIS IS A SCAM!
