Text message promising a $200 gas voucher

Today I received a text msg asking me if I would like a $200 Gas Voucher. It provided a toll free number to call for details: 877-764-7978. I have received 6 different text messages this year, with similar promises. I called the number, the person on the other end with a foreign accent, claimed to work for "Central Rewards" and proceeds to tell me for a one-time fee of $2.95 I would get a $200 gas voucher, good anywhere. Sarcastically, I said that it sounds too good to be true! I asked him how I pay the $2.95 fee to get my voucher... Of course, he was willing to accept any major credit card. Unfortunately, when I reply STOP to opt out of these things, it does no good. Each time, the text msg with an amazing offer comes from a different number. All of them lead back to "Central Rewards"

when he asked for my card number I thought that was kind of weird. This has happened to me before having to do with my card, Im not falling for it again. When I told him I was going to check on line first before I give out my card number he said he would hold on the line because if I hang up it was a one time offer I had to get it now. I saw all the reviews Re it being a Scam, Dont Do It!
anyhow, the guy had the NERVE to argue with me when I told him I refuse to do it.
Piss them off.
The scam is not the $2.95 for shipping. They will send you something - who knows what it is. But the real kicker is, is that you are now signed up to pay $39.95 per month to "subscribe" to this "service". Probably all pretty legal - as I assume the package that they send you has small print somewhere...that you are signed up.
Bust their chops. Use up their time.
Don't believe this fool
Bottom line, even though I thought it had SOME relation to the rebate I was awaiting... I was stupid enough to fall for this scam.
My payback? I prank called the scammers back, spoke with a ridiculous accent, and asked for pizza delivery. I continued to call, but they stopped answering.
- I called the number and a computer answers, “Thank you for calling the promotioanl hotline. Your call is next in line.” Then a guy with strong Indian accent (Steven) said he works for Central Rewards in New York, FL. He asked me if I received a text message about a voucher for a $200 gas card. He says there are no strings attached, they just need my mailing address, just a $2.95 processing fee from my credit or debit card. They got my phone number from their “research department”, which got my number from one of their marketing partners. He is not allowed to disclose any of their identities.
dollar voucher for just 2.95. i was so stupid to fall for it. i canceled my cc before they can charge me more
