Today I received a text msg asking me if I would like a $200 Gas Voucher. It provided a toll free number to call for details: 877-764-7978. I have received 6 different text messages this year, with similar promises. I called the number, the person on the other end with a foreign accent, claimed to work for "Central Rewards" and proceeds to tell me for a one-time fee of $2.95 I would get a $200 gas voucher, good anywhere. Sarcastically, I said that it sounds too good to be true! I asked him how I pay the $2.95 fee to get my voucher... Of course, he was willing to accept any major credit card. Unfortunately, when I reply STOP to opt out of these things, it does no good. Each time, the text msg with an amazing offer comes from a different number. All of them lead back to "Central Rewards"

Just to let everyone on this board know... there are 2 different Central Rewards Businesses and you're getting the two combined. The one located in Phoenix Arizona is a scam. The one located in Pembroke Pines Florida is a real business with real merchandise. You can actually find Central Rewards based in FL on the BBB with a physical address. You can also see that all of their complaints have been handled. Now try and find a physical address for the one in Phoenix Arizona. Its a sad day when consumers as well as businesses both get scammed.

I've received these texts also, promising me that all I had to pay was $1.95 for shipping and handling and I'm glad that I looked up the reviews because believe me times are hard and gas prices are high and that 250.00 gas card would come in handy, but with scams like this going around who can you trust and I just don't trust noone especially people that are trying to take my hard earned money. It's sad that people are out there like that and I just wish things wouldn't be like that. God bless america!!!!!!

This company is sending me TEXT messages THAT I'M BILLED FOR EACH MONTH! We don't do TEXT MSGING! Anyway, I called the number back and told them to remove my number from their system. The Indian (India Indian) that was on the other end HUNG UP ON ME!!! So I called back...got the same sounding Indian man...I asked to speak to someone in charge...he said "WHY" I said cause this is a federal violation and I want answers. He said, "I'm in charge now!" I asked what company they were he said, "Where are you calling from" I asked again, "What company are you with?" He responded the same. I told him to remove our number immediately as we are on the DO NOT CALL registry! I did NOT give them permission to use my cell phone and cause me fees for it!!!!!! He hung up on me AGAIN!!!!! I'm filing a complaint with the FTC!!! IMMEDIATELY!!!! Isn't farming out our Customer Service to INDIA and the Philippines a GREAT thing? Just look what kind of scammers are coming out of the wood work now! I WON'T do ANY business with a company who farms out their CS and takes our jobs from the US!!! There are a lot of them who do it too! This crook is probably working on his own, out of one of the CS centers and padding his pocket with the funds he rips off from folks who trust. SCAMMERS!!! It's time to heavily tax those big rich companies who are farming out our jobs.... Amazon, Direct TV, Chase Bank, and the list gets bigger with much larger firms! Don't give your personal info to these Farmed out individuals....THEY ARE USING IT!!!!! Ask where they are located...if they lie, that is even MORE reason to stop using them!!!

    tooembarassedtotell!!@@!
My daughter received this text and called them.  She gave them her debit card#, which I had just canceled.  after they couldn't get an approval from her card, she asked them to call me!  I was at work when they called with 2 lines on hold, I answered.  They caught me off guard and I thought it was someone else.  I gave them my info to shut them up so I could catch the phone lines I had on hold!  After I had time to think about what had happened, I called my bank and had my debit card canceled immediately! At this point, my account shows $1 taken out.  My bank said probably they will just take out the 2.95 at this point, but we're waiting to see if they take more.  Whatever they get, my bank will replace after I have filed a fraud complaint!  Lesson learned...never get so busy that you don't pay attention to who's on the phone getting your credit card info!! I know what you're thinking..."can I get your phone number??"...NO!

You can also go onto the websites http://privacymatters123.com and http://savingsace.com to cancel. I need to call the number to "Central Rewards" to cancel though. I was dumb and fell for it! I didn't even actually get a gas card. The good news is they have only charged me $1.95 2 times like they said they would. I am also calling within 30 days of getting the voucher. I know if you do that then they will cancel the membership. At least thats what they told me.

if you google FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION you will find a complaint tab there... its worth the 5 minutes it takes to make the complaint.

a scam is wrong but it also happens to be federal jurisdiction if it crosses state lines.

it becomes a matter of homeland security if its crossing country borders.

fyi we are the people. power to the people.

I think you may be confused
I haven't seen compelling evidence that these two are different, the central rewards located in penbroke has been trying to charge my card for a lot more than $29.99, but rather well over $1000 for some service that I have not signed up for or talked/texted/emailed anyone in any capacity, they called my girlfriend and demanded she pay the amount owed (to be clear, this card is in my name and I am the only legally authorized user), believing it was her card.  what they didn't have was any information about me, they did not have my name (really...they don't have the cardholder's name?), nor did they have a correct current/billing address (they used an address my girlfriend lived at over 16 years ago), what they wanted was another card or information they didn't have on the card (name/address,etc.). When my girlfriend stated that was not her
card  but her boyfriend's and she had never signed up for any program,
they insisted they had a recording of her agreeing to the service. She did
not give them any information and told them she would have to
investigate further, they called again today and this time I was there to
hear it, they played their "recording" of someone answering their
automated system's questions after identifying themself as my girlfriend. After hearing the "recording" I told the caller I had never spoken to anyone from her company and I considered the charge to be obtained fraudulently and I would not be complying for any request for any additional information of any kind, to which the caller responded that I would have to send them paperwork from my bank outlining this and implicate my girlfriend for credit card fraud, I was so flabbergasted by such an obvious strong-arm attempt I informed her I would be contacting a lawyer and requested their info, the individual I spoke to identified herself as Danielle and she has no accent of any kind (maybe a little southern) but where I believe this ties into the Florida central rewards business is I discovered her name popping up in my investigations into this company, specifically a complaint that sounds almost exactly like my complaint that was filed against the Florida business and her name popping up in the same position for that complaint too. Officially they are not accredited by the BBB, and have 16 complaints filed over the last 3 years, of which 15 are resolved, though the nature of complaints on the BBB site is very enlightening. I am leaning towards the belief that Central Rewards runs their operation in a very gray area, where they do little to consistently maintain what would be considered smart or ethical business practices, and may even have ties to the "second central rewards" business, more than likely they are the same business, but one is kept as a legitimate face and physical location. I would not recommend that anyone trust or sympathize with any business that conducts their business in such intentionally murky ways.
Mas supposed "proof" they had legitimate claim to charge me

I have not gotten my money back and I am so angry. They said I authorized the payment, and I didn't I said yes to the first payment for 2.95 and when they started talking about other charges I said no. I WANT MY MONEY BACK

I believe this is a result of using an auto insurance referral company, if you have requested info on auto insurance with a referral company and not an actual agency, this might be the result, since when you do you agree to their terms, which is selling your info to other lines of "marketing" business. this might be the common factor with all of us getting this text, actually mine had a calling code from San Francisco, and the number to call was 877-789-5256

Was using the question and answer text system, "Cha-Cha" when I recieved a text from them about a $200 gas voucher. It said call 1877-789-5251 to claim. When I called, an Indian man answered explaining I could pay part of a $2.95 fee today, talk to a manager about recieving a confirmation code, and then pay the rest of the fee. I would then be sent the $200 gas voucher and a $50 Walmart gift card. I asked about a website and he had no answer. I asked how he recieved my information and was told through my Visa credit card use, which I don't even have a Visa. I hung up and called back. A different person answered, I asked if I could call back later with my credit card info and she said the was a one time call offer. This is such a scam, DO NOT fall for it. I called back a third time to complain. I said this is a scam and I don't appreciate it. A different women from the first two people I spoke to replied by saying, "then why am i waisting my time to talk to her" She was incredibly rude and spoke to me with great disrespect.
