I read a few blogs about a merchant service(squareup.com)on an excusve website.  I decided to use the service and accepted over eight hundred dollars in payments through them.  The problem is they will not send the funds due to my designated business account and I have now idea how to collect my money from them.  They continue not to answer my numerous complaints and requests for assistance.  They claim to answer every request personally which is deceptive.  On my first complaint, they personally sent me a list of measures for a certain proceedure which was fruitless and had nothing to do with my complaint.  If it was not for You Tube, I would have still been stuck on the application complaint.

Square is asking for SSN and with that they can find anything. There are also public records of what you own so they can find out.

I have use the Square since May and have been COMPLETELY satisfied....my money is deposited the next business day. Had a question answered by them the next day after sending an email. I can't understand the complaints on this site.....must be the other credit card processors who are losing customers now. They are trying to scare off folks that need an easy, affordable system.

Maybe you work for for square since you seem to be the ONLY one with good things to say?  another site has 659 complaints about them, so they are all other merchant services companies I guess?  I guess it works if you are only doing 100 bucks a week....

I, too, have submitted a support notification to requesting an increase in my deposit amount limit. I have not heard/received any contact from Square as of this writing.

I dialed 415-376-3176 and listened to a recording saying that the operator's voicemail box was full. I kept trying to find a valid extension and ended up leaving 'Arlyn' (sp) a message which included my case # and my contact info.

As Square is currently keeping a sizable amount of my money from me, once I have the money from them I will never use this company again and will tell everyone I can to avoid Square.

Hi- Just my exp with square. So far so good. Got reader in about a week, this morning did a test transaction, checked my bank, and there is already a pending deposit from them. It does seem odd that they don't have a customer service phone. But in retospect, I advertise a lot with Google adwords, and it has just been recently that they have a real customer service phone. Good luck to all, I did read the fine print, and the max you can get is kind of low, but their fees are reasonable. I use paypal express on my website, and it works well for me, I am just using square for the occasional customer who thinks it's safer to call in a credit card number. I feel that their "hold" may be due to the fact that the only requirement to get an account is a checking account. No credit check, etc. Again.....good luck to all of us using Square

My money has been held for 30 days now.  I have used square up for small sales transactions ($500 or less). Thirty days ago we processed a transaction for $2880 of which they are holding roughly $800 because the transaction  was over $2,000 and I now know it is their policy to hold any amount above 2K.  What's worse is they began holding the full amount of smaller transactions posted after that one as if they were lumped into the amount over 2K. In total they are now holding over $1,100 of my money and I do not know when I will see it.  The intitial hold of roughly $800 was to be in the bank today.  It is not and THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO CONTACT THEM.  No phone center, no chat sessions; absolutely no way to talk to a live person.  I haven't even found a customer service email address; just a Q&A list where I found the hiterto unknown policy about holding any amount above 2K for 30-plus days.I am looking for other options for future transactions.  Any suggestions that will work with my smart phone?  I willnot use SquareUP going forward.  What thinking person would? Reply

I have been using SQUARE since May 2011 -- Over $5000 worth of transactions.  I love it --- I really dont know what I would do with out it.  I read earlier about the delays and complaints, you have to be patient at first. Initinally, my deposits would take 4-7 days to show in my bank - now I processed on Sunday and it was in the bank Monday afternoon.

    Amazing idea, even better product.

I am doing some research on Square complaints for a business group (I work for a merchant services processor) presentation and hear these complaints everywhere I go and way more.  The bigger issue beyond any of this listed is the lack of PCI DSS compliance.  On the website they claim to be so, but in the fine print it is only for Merchant Level 4 (businesses doing several million transactions per year) which essentially excludes 99% of businesses.  Everyone is at risk of fraud investigation and fines by the interchange system (VISA/Mastercard/American Express, etc)unless you receive a certificate by the industry via the proper channel (go to PCI-DSS.org).  It is a very big deal that surpasses money being held by Square as that is a known part of their business model.  Bottom line, Square is for very small businesses, and for non-legitmate businesses only. Any legitmate business doing volume of several hundred dollars per month needs to use a standard processor for your own safety, which includes severely reduced discount rates.  All of the processors have compliant mobile units for smart phones.  Some with lower rates, and some not.  It is actually fairly inexpensive to have a wireless terminal also (but can have similar problems for reception in large buildings at shows, but DO have store and forward).  Hopefully this information may be useful for a business or two.
