I recently realized that I was being billed $12.95 from MNI Credit Reporting on a monthly basis.  I have NEVER used an online reporting tool for my credit score.  Even scarier, there seems to be hundreds of complaints regarding this company throughout the web.  After calling them and being put on hold for over 30 minutes, I decided to try again with similar results.  It appears that this company steal your information, and then you can't reach them to cancel the billing.  If the charge is recurring your credit card company can not get your money back - they deem it as user negligence.  Proceed with MNI and FreeCreditReport.com with caution - They are a slippery group of thieves!

Just got off the phone with Experian's CreditReports.com to cancel a "membership" they say I applied for. Be careful to read EVERYTHING, altho "everything" is not stated when you want to check your credit score (for whatever reason). You are acutally applying for a membership. Also, a scam that uses this is "Rent To Own"...for those looking to possibly buy a house, but would rent it first.

Random charge from these guys for $19.95. Told them I want it reversed since I didn't sign up for anything.  They matched my card info to someone else who requested the credit report.  I asked the guy why in the world they would charge someone's account with a totally different name and mailing address. He said the name and address doesn't have to match the one on the bank account. Seriously??? I work for a company and take credit card payments all day and the billing info has to match up.  Are they sending my credit report to someone named Misty????

my son was charged $273 for a pair of shoes and $1.00 for a credit report on his debit card both on the same day,nov.1,so he called the bank and  requested to hold/block any transactions since it is an unauthorized one, they reversed/refunded the amount after a few days of their investigation and issued another debit card..it took my son 2 wks.to finally activate his new debit card and used his cc instead for fear it may happen again and guess what,a day after activating it,there appeared a $14.95 charge from experian which he did not even requested so he immediately notified wells fargo about this unauthorized transaction again and the full amount was reversed immediately since there is no activity yet on my son's acct.since nov.1 (the day the first unauthorized transactions happened)..how can somebody else used his debit card when it has never been used by my son yet, where did they get his info like acct.no./pin no?...looks like it's an inside job? I hope there will be no third time bec.the bank may not believe him anymore...

This actually happened to me as well. I was charged 14.95 the bank Wells Fargo cancelled my debit card and reversed the charges. Today  noticed they charged my card again. This time to my new card. I am filing another claim and this time I am looking to prosecute. I was just wondering if this stopped or if it continued with your son?

I noticed some charges on my credit card from experian consumer report. 877-297-7790.  I called them and they kept saying that a Larry L, and a Herb L tried opening an account with my credit card. I kept asking them questions and they kept giving   me the run around. I spoke with someone at around 6:30. I called the number back around 7 and got the answer machine saying they close at 6. It is all very suspicious.  I called my cc right away and had them re-issue me a new card. What is strange is that I don't have any other suspicious charges on my account.

familiar story... saw the 19.95 on my debit card statement online.  Called them as I knew I've never dealt with them in anyway before.  I got nowhere, they kept insisting that they didn't show any record under my name and that they would have to have my debit card number. They kept telling me I didn't have to worry about giving them my number as they were part of Experian.... When I said no, they wanted my mother's maiden name, my dob, my social security #.  I refused all info except my name and dob so the said there was nothing they could do.  I called my bank and cancelled the card, reporting the charge.  Called "creditreport.com" back and gave them the cancelled card number.  They immediately found the card # with Valerie M's name on it.  The first idiot I spoke to told me that there is another card out there with the same number!!  Higher on the food chain, I was told that they couldn't give me any more information on "Valerie" for her security!!  They wanted my social security number to "verify" that it wasn't my number that "valerie" used, or my credit report she viewed.  When I refused to give them that they said they couldn't help any further so I guess it's up to the bank to take it further.  total scam!  If it was a once off situation I might be able to believe she just mis-entered the card number but with this many identical times???  Hardly!

Got Charged 19.95 plus tax for a total of 21.72 on my card.  Called the number, they said a "Rosemary C" ordered a subscription for me.  I called bs on that and told em to reverse charges.  They said they will.  Incidentally, i asked what state the tax portion was paid to but apparently even that is classified information.  So they can charge me tax and a subscription but can't tell me who the tax went to or who charged it other than "Rosemary C".  I told them I think the entire thing is a scam including Rosemary C by thier company--kind of like the popups you get on your computer saying: "you are infected get our solution NOW!"  [***].

I was charged $14.95 for the months of October and November.
Called my credit card company, which in turn told me to call Experian first, which I did.  They told me they would credit my account the $29.90.
According to the representative, someone named Thil was the one who authorized the charges.  Hmm, wonder if some employee is getting a kick back for signing up new customers?
Sounds like a scam to me.
    Check your credit card bill.

I got the $19.95 charge yesterday. Contacted Experian, and they said a Michelle P (whom I do not know) authorized the purchase. They are refunding the money.

    WATCHOUT
My  mastercard credit card was charged 14.95.  Experian* creditrep 877-297-7790 CA was the description of the charge.  I NEVER signed up for any credit report.  I called this number and I was told they would reinburse the charges.  I called my credit card company and they are disputing the charges also.  I'm not sure how they got my information, but, we are doing our research.  Lesson I've learned:  check my charge card statements very carefully each month and dispute any charges that are unknown!!!!!  Unfortunately, no one can be trusted anymore.  Why do we live in such a time of greed and dishonesty???  GOD is watching... BEWARE....And don't forget....There is a hell and you want NO part of it.  Repent and seek forgiveness

Exact same thing happened to me.  I did exactly what you did.  They would not give me any information, but I was told they would refund the money for the 2 months charged.

I spotted a pending charge on my online bank statement today from Experian FreeCreds for $14.95. I called the number listed on the item line which was 877-300-2507 and spoke with a man with an accent. He asked first for my credit card number. I told him I don't want to supply that but I will give my name. He then asked me for my date of birth and zip code, and I said, let's just look me up by name. I spelled my first and last name and he said he can't find an account under that name. So I agreed to give him my date of birth and zip code, and he said he couldn't find anything else. He said his company was a division of Experian. I didn't give him my cc# because I felt that along with my name, DOB and zip, him having the corresponding cc# wouldn't be a good thing. I am on the phone with my bank right now and I plan to file a complaint with the FTC immediately. This seems super fishy and I have a sick feeling in my stomach.

The SAME thing is happening to my CC. I just called my bank and disputed the charges. I will be calling Experian as soon as their customer service dept opens...if not resolved to my satisfaction I'll be changing my cc #. Unbelievable the amount of complaint "traffic" on Experian!!

Same thing here.  Noticed two charges on my debit card that I did not authorize.  I have never contacted anyone concerning a free credit report.  I called the 877-300-2507 and the 877-297-7790 trying to find out what was going on.  Both basically told me the same thing, that they couldn't access the acct without my card number which I was not going to give out.  I called my bank and filed a fraudulent charge complaint and canceled my card.  I called 877-300-2507 number back, spoke to someone else, and went through the same thing.  It was very odd that it took her several minutes to locate my "acct".  I gave her my card # since it was canceled and of course the info was not mine, it was a Crystal H.  When asked about a last name or an address, she told me that she couldn't give it out for security reasons.  Funny since my card was used fraudulently and you want to protect their security.  All of it is very strange, especially after reading all the complaints that I have found.  Wondering why this is still going on with all these complaints.

For those of you that have filed complaints with the FTC, under what category did you file the complaint under??

    Thanks!

Experian sells Fraud Alert. This is like the shoeshine boy making a puddle in front of his stand. They commit the fraud and I am sure some people never catch it. So they get money for nothing. When people do call, they back out the charges and try to sell you Fraud Alert to prevent it from happening again. This is a scam. I suspect if you used the card number for another transaction, someone sold off the list of charge account numbers or stole it and is bilking the list for this bogus charge. I canceled the credit card number and got a new card with a different number. Otherwise, it will just keep happening.

Same here, same 877-2977790 CA number $19.95, they said it was a family friendly site and they let whomever calls with the number use my card, Devin H. used mine. They said they can't verify the charges unless I gave my SS number or credit card number. HE11 NO!!!  WHY IN THE HE11 IS EXPERIAN LETTING OTHER THAN THE LEGAL CARD HOLDER USE THE CARDS?!!!!!!  SHUT THEM DOWN!!!  Let's all sue Experian!

It seems as though they ask for your CC # so they can refund it if you get mad, thereby tricking you into believing they're a legitimate company so you won't report them.  I had to scream and threaten the woman on the phone they will try to talk over you, interupt and try and get your social security number.  They kept asking for the DOB, ZipCode and everything else.  I fell for giving them the card number and cancelled it immediately after.  The people I spoke with were NOT professional.  It's a scam!

Hey, if this is still happening to anyone, I just called when I discovered this craziness, too.  The gentleman with freecreditreport was very kind and told me he would refund the 29.95 since I was not aware of it.
