I purchased a sofa and chair from a furniture store about 18 months ago. I chose the England brand furniture because I was told about their exceptional quality. Unfortunately, the fabric and cushions are wearing pre-maturely. The fabric is tearing and the cushions are loosing their shape. England refuses to acknowledge the tearing because the 1 year warranty has expired. They are looking into the cushion problem. I never had this problem with any other brand of living room furniture I purchased over the last 35 years.

I agree with all the bad remarks about England. They seem to all be about the same problem. I bought a very expensive chair 1/2 glidder with an ottoman in 2004. I do not have children who sit on this and it is hardly used. On the first seat cushion the cord was broken. They replaced it. The second one the seat cushion was already misshaped. The third one was sorta OK and I was tired of dealing with it. I did save the first two in case I had to take matters into my own hands and sew them myself or if the third one started looking bad. In 2006 the cord broke on the back cushion of the chair ... I had to sew that and am thankful for the other two cushions that weren't any good. I cut material from them...pull the cord together as close as I could and sewed it with plastic fishing wire. It has now held since then. The ottoman that came with it eventually had a cord break. I did the same sewing job and it has held. Now the hinges are wearing out and by my investigation on some internet sites...the locking hinges cost $21.95-not cheap. I called my store...in turn who contacted England. They sent wrong hinges (lift hinges) twice the same ones..DUH!!! I paid $20.14 for two locking hinges. We are trying a third time now so am keeping my fingers crossed. I think they used quality wood and bolts but material is crap. I see others on here who have had worse and more problems than me but I would never buy again from them. Sorry ENGLAND...get it together!!!! I told the store manager about this site and they are checking into it. They were thankful I let them know about all these complaints.

I am an England dealer and the problem you addressed is with the dealer, not England. We have a schedule as to when the truck is to deliver the furniture. Sounds to me that the dealer never ordered your furniture. England provides us with a list of out of stock or low fabrics to avoid  fabric issues. If the dealer does not share that info with you when you order, sounds like you had a crappy saleperson.

I personally own an England Sofa and also sell them.  My Sofa is over 4 years old and I have 5 children 1 of which is adult size and 254 lbs and we have never had any problems with it. No matter what brand of furniture cushions soften with time they WILL NOT retain the same firmness forever. For the economical price of an England product they have a very good service record. Furniture is like every other product unfortunatley the people that have a problem are generally very out spoken and the people that are satisfied with there purchase don't bother to speek out.

I am shocked to read these complaints. I got to this forum because I was looking for a place to buy an England couch. I absolutely love the one I have. It has worn like iron.  It was given to us and then lived through our four kids and all their friends, half the time  someone is sleeping overnight on it. I truly cannot say enough about what a wonderful piece of furniture this couch is

I am so glad you have not had problems, however, it is obvious others have and I am sure they have tried to get England to take care of their problems with no success or this site would not be here. I see some on here that are good comments for England. My Uncle worked for an Upholstery business and it does make a difference on quality of cushions and cloth.(please remember from my 1st post that no one sits on the chair and I had two bad cushions sent when it was new...please feel free to re-read it) I am glad that my children are grown as I wouldn't want to own this chair with them growing up. It would have been long gone by now..well not the frame of it anyway. I don't see where anyone is outspoken here at all. Just a place to see if others have a problem with England. I suppose all we would see here is good comments if England was as wonderful as you make them out to be. Service from them might be good for you ... you sell it. We don't!....I just look at my chair as I know what would happen if I use it.

I purchased an England sofa in 1-2009. The cushions, especially the left one appear to flatten and sink into the sofa. It makes for uncomfortable sitting and is hard to get up from. When I called the store they sent out a man who insisted it was that the manufacturer used cheap foam in the cushions and that I could bring the cushions in and they would replace with better foam. I did but the cushions especially the one on the left still sinks in. My husband turned the sofa upside down and removed the fabric to look at construction of springs. There appears to be only one thin band holding weight. I have had a flexsteel sofa in my living room for twenty almost thirty years and have never experienced any problems. I purchased this sofa to replace a sectional in my family room that was a lazyboy. It never had problems until it was fifteen years old. I would never never consider another piece of furniture from this company! I feel they cut corners on construction quality and make you think you are purchasing a lazyboy when it's nowhere near the same quality of construction.

Just remember when buying from England or any company today buyer beware. No doubt at one time England did make good quality built furniture. But we all know as time goes on; many companies have had to cut back on quality but not price. Price goes up = quality down. So if you had an old couch or chair, that means you were bought quality. Don't count on that being the case when you buy one today. Just sayin again "buyer beware!"

I have a 14y/o England sofa, and it is only now starting to fray, with the cords coming out of the edges. I have been shopping for a replacement sofa, and have been seeking England. A salesman and Y8U7woman at another dealer asked me to stay away from England, and I took it as rivalry, but after looking at these comments, I am reconsidering, and looking at other options. Any suggestions?

Anusha...you could try Ethan Allen (very expensive but well worth it) or Thomasville. Again I have not bought for a long time either and with that said....check it out and make whoever you go to show you exactly how it is made. I am skeptical too. You could also order a slip cover for your good old "England" You know it is still good framewise. Or check with an upholstery store to see what it would cost to re-do. Might be worth it. Good Luck :)

You can't judge someone that is just fed up. Yes you get what you pay for, but when there are so many identical complaints about a product.. It just shows they are beyond Frustration with manufactures that sell sub-standard furniture they paid good money for.

Well to further update on my chair and 1/2 ottoman. They don't have the hinges anymore and will not help me out here. I will never buy from England again. They are now a worthless company to me. They had my money for 4 months only to tell me they can't help me. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

I just spoke to Bill Woods (423-626-5211) ...and is a very nice man. I guess they just don't use those hinges anymore .... But if in need to speak someone, call Bill. He will do everything he can to help. I will just have to find someone to re-do the hinges on this big ottoman. Hmmm....(the store I bought this from is the people who had my money for 4 months...not England) Bill really did try to help me ....but cannot.

    This crap is JUNK
Same complaints as everyone else. Bought a couch and chair. Buttons came off of chair within 2 weeks. The cushions on the couch became flat immediately. The fabric on the couch has little "balls" all over it. Sitting on it is like sitting on wood. JUNK. As I type this is on it's way to the Salvation Army. This furniture is less than a year old. I wish I would have looked into the quality before I bought this $@&!

Do yourself a favor and stay away from England. The only quality they are concerned with is the quality of their profit margins. The furniture and warranty are both junk.

You'll find many posts on this site saying the same thing, "Bill's a nice guy who can't help me." Nice is great, but when it comes to my money, I want more than nice; I want results; I want my money's worth. England time and again provide platitudes that don't fix any of the problems.

I'm not sure the Salvation Army could give it away.
