I purchased a sofa and chair from a furniture store about 18 months ago. I chose the England brand furniture because I was told about their exceptional quality. Unfortunately, the fabric and cushions are wearing pre-maturely. The fabric is tearing and the cushions are loosing their shape. England refuses to acknowledge the tearing because the 1 year warranty has expired. They are looking into the cushion problem. I never had this problem with any other brand of living room furniture I purchased over the last 35 years.

what is the weight of the customers whos sofa cushions broke down? In my 40 years of furniture experience the main reason sofas break down is fat owners.

I bought an England sofa last November and it looked like a 10 year old sofa after about 1 month of owning it. It is a poor design and poor quality. It is so uncomfortable! As soon as you sit on a cushion, the other cushion sucks you down to the crack between the two cushions. My while body aches after 5 minutes of sitting down. Laying down is out of the question unless I want my body to be unaligned from the un even cushions. I would never recommend anyone to buy this brand. Even the fabric is very cheap and snags at every opportunity. The cushions above the sofa bed sink lower than the rest of the couch and it is very uncomfortable and very conspicuous. Also the fabric on the cushions shift and stay that way because the couch pulls you towards the cracks between the cushions. I finally talked my husband into spending a lot of money on a couch so we could have quality. After $3000 I am sooooo dissatisfied. I get so disgusted with the lack of quality and I really feel like I was ripped off. It's like buying a Cadillac but actually getting a Geo!

I stumbled upon this site by accident. I was surprised by complaints with England. I have purchased three sofas from them in the last 30 years and have never had one problem. Want to see problems? Check out some other vendors as well. Broyhill, Ashley, just to name a few. Out of hundreds of thousands of sales made the complaint issue is very limited. Alot of problems on board here are with retail stores not stepping up to the plate and solving the issues.

In todays world way to many of us our couch potatoes.  Want a sofa to last a short period of time? Sleep on it. It's the number one reason cushion cores breakdown.  Consumers are much harder on furniture today then in my generation. I love my England furniture and like previous post I have had three sets on 30 years.  Only reason I changed every so often as I got tired of colors, etc. and needed a change.

    SOFA/sleeper purchased Oct 2010.
Cushions FLAT and terrible squeaking every time we sit or move on the couch.
Cushions replaced by Retail store in Dec 2010.
Initial problems start all over again.
Retail store sends a "furniture specialist" to our home in April 2011 to diagnose sofa.  He does some adjustments on the sleeper mechanism, orders firmer cushions and returns a month later to install them.
    Problem reoccurs.
WE have to climb out of the sofa to stand up...this is ridiculous.
In July I call and complain again to Retail store and they decide to send the sofa back to England for servicing....whatever! They pick up in August 2011 and I get it back 6 wks. later.  I tell you...it's a piece of crap.  I am done with this sofa! we've had it back for a week and my legs are resting on the horizontal, upholstered panel along the front of the couch.  My 1 yr warranty is coming up and you can rest assured that I will be getting my money back and purchasing something else.

Comfy, looks great after several years. We have an England sofa we bought second hand. Friends had it a few years and now we have it. It still looks great pillows and cushions are great, not sure what the difference is. It is a 3 cushion regular sofa. Granted they never slept or laid on it or anything but still doing well. Sleeping or laying on a sofa is the quickest way to ruin it. Well we have it now we will see how long it lasts.

Thanks to all who wrote a complaint! I almost purchased an England sleeper sofa today in Albany NY. However, I decided to do some research before buying the sleeper. Your complaints sealed the deal for me, and I will  not buy England furniture now or in the future.

I also have the leather sofa and loveseat with footrests on the ends.  The cushions are so flat i would have to sit on metal or wood rods.  I used to rearrange the filling every other day but have given up and now keep a thick cover on the loveseat.  We never sit on the couch and last summer by brother in law sat on the couch and told me the cushion is really thin.  The store in Toledo, Ohio went out of business, they gave me a number to call but it wasn't a good number.  I wanted to get more leather cleaner and protector (supposed to get free refills) but can't get that either.  Just wondered if you had any luck finding anything out?

THIS WAS THE FURNITURE STORES ISSUE, NOT ENGLAND. THERE IS AN EXACT SHIP WEEK SCHEDULE FOR ENGLAND WITH CUT OFF TIMES AND DELIVERY TIMES. IF....A FABRIC IS BACK ORDERED, ENGLAND DOES NOTIFY THE SELLING DEALER VIA E-MAIL OR FAX. THIS IS NOT AN ENGLAND ISSUE.

Ryann - you're looking to purchase an England couch?  I will gladly let you purchase mine along with the matching chair and ottoman.  I'll even give you a deal on it.  As soon as I can unload this stuff, I'm having my "old" couch recovered.  It's over 25 years old and still feels as if it's new.  It just no longer looked new.

My wife and I purchased a reclining Lazy Boy set including reclining sofa, loveseat, and chair.  This set is 6 years old and we have had all of the same problems described in this forum about England furniture.  We had the arm repaired on the sofa because it colapsed and two cusions replaced.  Now the fabric is falling apart on all three peices and the fabric has been discontinued.  We were looking at an England set as a replacement but now I'm not so sure.

Have always been satisfied with England furniture until now. A combination of lack of quality control and lack of customer service at furniture store where I purchased a $600 and some dollar chair, that reclines, but does not come back into an upright position. Right now, a month after delivery, I am waiting for someone to visit my home and rectify the problem...if I have no success,I will then give the name of the furniture store. No one seems to care...they got their money, but never again from me.

I would love to give this couch away or burn but I paid too much for it so we will just have to suffer.  My husband HATES it!!! It is the worst furniture we have bought.  It is NOT quality made!!!The back cusions flattened down in days and the furniture store which is 40 miles away had me come back for more stuffing!! I shouldn't have to stuff a brand new couch!!! The recliner is very uncomfortable. Not like we sat in at the store.  Who cares about the warranty if you are so dissatisfied with the product overall!! There needs to be some kind of replacement guarantee if they are so proud of their furniture! Then maybe they would start making decent furniture!

I am a dealer of England Furniture and also own it. Furniture is not made like it used to be with solid wood, corner blocking, and wool. Those materials today would cost a fortune and most could not afford this amount of quality. England is very nice furniture for the price and wears according to amount of use. There is better stuff and worst stuff out there. England is very nice for the money. Their stationary sofas are great, however I look else where for reclining sofas.

I wish you would list your model name, number & fabric name and number of the products bought.  This would deter me from buying those products and fabrics.
I have two chairs I love and the fabric is great! I got extra fabric when I ordered the chairs and had some ottomans made by a furniture guy. Wish I could remember the model name. The fabric is a black background with a floral pattern. Very nice!

I went into Art Van looking to buy a new sofa.  Our green sofa cording started to poke threw the fabric.  My children thought it was really cool to see a plastic cording poking through, so they pulled it out.  The fabric started to tear away from the cording after one year of use.  My mom sewed it backed together with a hooked needle.  This couch gets minimal use.  Anyway, so I was in Art Van looking to buy another couch.  I found one just perfect for my room.  However, the brand was England.  Not knowing what my couch that was falling apart brand was, I was reassured by the Art Van sales person that this was a good brand and it would be better than the couch I had.  Knowing that I went ahead and bought an England brand couch and matching chair.  When I got home I was very curious to see who made my green couch that is falling apart, so I lefted the cushion and it said made by England.  When I saw that the next day I quickly cancelled my order!!!!
