AT&T YellowPages.com does what they want

Hello,

A warning for anyone that gets a telemarketing call from AT&T YellowPages.com. My wife and I own a small mom and popbusiness and my wife received a call and listened to the person go through their services, but when he gave my wife the pricing she told him that she would speak with me and he'd contact her the next day. When the next day came she told him no not now.

They proceeded to bill us and said that from part of the conversation they consider it an ok for the expensive but totally useless service. A billion dollar company screwing over a mom and pop. Know they are trying to sue us for failing to make any payments in a service which we did not want.

I guess billion dollar companies and their lawyers think it's ok to screw mom and pop stores and my guess is that the idiotic court system will probably side with them since the supposedly have a voice recording, but coincidently without the end section nor the day after part just cut down to what the contracted telemarketer (who no longer with them for some undisclosed reason) are using as the ok. I guess that since they can no loger use their marketing tactic on people now they have started on mom and pop's.

They wouldn't be able to bill you unless you subscribed to the program.  I'm a happy customer of YellowPages.com, and you have to go through a recorded verification process in order to sign up.  How else would they get your credit card number unless you gave it to them?

Maybe you should talk to your wife, it sounds like she signed up and didn't want to tell you.

Nice try!  You must work for the Beast.

ATT screws people with deceitful tactics.  A verbal contract is not valid.  TIME TO SUE THESE SOBS FOR HARASSMENT AND FRAUDULENCE !

Absolutely agree. Put all their emails in a file called crooks and thieves !!  They all say the same thing and must train for stealing from hard working innocent people who are working too hard to deal with them. Would like to get people together to put them out of business. Anyone want to join me ???

AT&T yellowpages.com make a business out of ripping off small businesses.

Jim probably isn't paying by credit card, otherwise his credit card company would act on his behalf. Yellowpages.com just keeps sending invoices.

I had a one-year contract with yellowpages.com that was expiring that I did not want automatically renewed.  So I contacted the sales rep that sold me the one-year contract and I found out he was no longer with the company.  Then I was dealing with the rep that had my account in order to make sure my contract did not automatically renew.  For two weeks, I was getting the run-around from this guy while he was promising to send me a "zero contract".  I finally went to their customer service line: 1-800-343-7390 and they said they would handle the cancellation.  All I had to do was fax them a letter stating that I did not want to renew and why and that's it.  I asked if they received calls like this from consumers and the customer service rep said, "yes, they do."  They receive calls all the time about unresponsive sales reps and the consumer should just go through customer service but the sales reps don't tell you to call customer service.  So do yourself a favor, do not sign up with Yellowpages.com!  Find a local business referral group to network with and save your money.  I am a small business owner as well and I could not keep affording $135 per month for an ad.  I got hits on my ad, sure, but I did not see substantial business from it. Good luck!

Whatever you do, DO NO SIGN UP WITH YELLOWPAGES.COM! Our Salesperson came to our small business and offered an internet program that included creating a new website for us and a guarantee of 30 clicks to your website each month.  He also guaranteed that if anyone looks up our type of business on Google or Yahoo ours would be the first to come up.  After signing a contract, we started getting a $90.00 bill from AT&T Yellowpages.com, yet nothing had been done.  No Website - No Guaranteed Clicks.  I called my sales representative who never called me back.  I finally called the billing - customer service department and they said thay they were billing me for having our name, Logo and address on yellowpages.com.  We were already getting that for FREE from them!  I told them that I didn't want to pay $90.00 for something I was already getting for free and they told me our website wasn't ready yet and that we had to pay for this because of the contract we had signed.  BULL!
We never agreed to that.  So, for right now, it has been over three months and nothing that the sales representative sold us on has been done.  After having a 30 minute discussion on the phone with customer service, all's they could say is "Didn't you read the Terms & Conditions?". I told them I never even received a copy of the contract I had signed or the Terms & Conditions.
She sent me a copy of both and after reading the terms & conditions I realized they Breached the Contract by not having our Advertising Units within 90 days of the signed contract. I sent them a Letter of Cancellation by Certified Mail and hopefully that will take care of this NIGHTMARE.  They pulled the old "BAIT AND SWITCH" tactic.  Promising you one thing and delivering something else that is worthless.  I will never sign up for anymore advertising with AT&T Yellowpages because they are a bunch of CROOKS!

I can relate.  I told the person on the phone repeatedly that I wanted information in writing to review before signing up for anything.  What came in writing a month later did NOT match what I was told at all.  I have now sent an e-mail stating the problem and requesting cancellation of the "contract" I signed verbally over the phone even after requesting everything in writing.  What a horrible way to do business.  I will NEVER do ANY business with them again.  That includes with their phone or cel-phone service.

    Frustrated!!!
I have been in constant contact with the Berry Company(the people who sell the Yellow Pages Ads) since mid October. Same deal...they told me I was getting one thing and now are trying to change the contract. My contract has the exact graphic that I designed for my internet ad. But they are trying to switch. If I ever get this fixed I will never deal with them again. By the way, unless you submit to them in writing that you do not want to renew your advertising, book or internet, they can renew without your signature.

The name "Yellow Pages" is NOT copyrighted. The "walking fingers" logo is NOT copyrighted. So before you put in a complaint about yellowpages.com (the largest and most preferred internet directory in the U.S.) make sure you got the right company. There are many online and print directory companies that send out these so called "bills" to charge you for a listing you did not approve. That is not to say that every advertiser is 100% satisfied with AT&T yellowpages.com. But remember, no internet directory or search engine will give you new clients/customers on a silver platter. All these online marketing programs can do for you is put you in front of people who are searching for your services or products on any given day. The rest is up to you. If you have a crapy website that wont even attract flies, if you do not know how to handle a customer over the phone, if you cant make the customer come in to your business, if you are not a decent sales person and close on these customers that contacted you, it is not fair to blame the advertising company.
