AT&T YellowPages.com does what they want

Hello,

A warning for anyone that gets a telemarketing call from AT&T YellowPages.com. My wife and I own a small mom and popbusiness and my wife received a call and listened to the person go through their services, but when he gave my wife the pricing she told him that she would speak with me and he'd contact her the next day. When the next day came she told him no not now.

They proceeded to bill us and said that from part of the conversation they consider it an ok for the expensive but totally useless service. A billion dollar company screwing over a mom and pop. Know they are trying to sue us for failing to make any payments in a service which we did not want.

I guess billion dollar companies and their lawyers think it's ok to screw mom and pop stores and my guess is that the idiotic court system will probably side with them since the supposedly have a voice recording, but coincidently without the end section nor the day after part just cut down to what the contracted telemarketer (who no longer with them for some undisclosed reason) are using as the ok. I guess that since they can no loger use their marketing tactic on people now they have started on mom and pop's.

i have been trying to cancel my account with them since 2006.  I've jumped thru every hoop they asked...  and they are still billing me.

In need of search engine exposure for a new business website, I went to AT&T Yellowpages.com, and put up a free listing. Then soon I got an aggressive sales call from them, saying that the $77 internet listing of my site would more than pay off. I decided to risk it an did a voice contract recorded on the phone. Sept '09 until now, May 2010, I see that a Google search for my business keywords does not result in even a Yellowpages.com category directory listing. Actually my 2 websites show up already on page 1 and 2 of Google listings, due to my hard work, not in any way connected to my YP listing.

In March, they called to get me to renew my contract (to start Aug, 2010, for another year, and "update" my listing.

Doing more Google queries, I realize that Yellowpages.com does not show up, even 7 pages down the line, for my business category. Sure , if I actually go to YP.com I can search and find my listing, but in terms of facility of access, exposure of my site, I see it is a big waste of money.

This week I have been trying to cancel my 2nd year contract, which doesn't start for 3 months. Since I made a recorded contract agreement (under pressure!) for renewal, they argue that I may be obligated to pay that off , too. For another year! They played the recording back as proof.

I told them to cancel my 2nd year renewal as soon as possible, but they say they have to talk to higher-ups in accounts first to get cancellation approved. Meanwhile , I have to pay off for next 3 months.

Trying to cancel is a real hassle. You'd think they would send a cancellation form or just do it quickly online so you can get it over with.

I did agree to the contract over the phone but then informed the agent that I could not afford it at this time. He conviently left that off the recording or erased it. They will not send me a written contract and they will not take the add down even though I have closed the web site.

I would be happy to be part of a class action suit.

Up until 2008 yellowpages.com worked very well.  When I had the chance to get a top listing for every city in Orange County California I thought I was getting the golden egg of yellowpages.

That’s when everything went to crap.  Traffic from yellowpages.com continued at the same rate for a few months and then dropped 50%.  Traffic from yahoo local also dropped almost completely.  I have a tracking URL so that I can see exactly where the traffic was coming from. I called about the problems but AT&T does not know how their advertising works or they where covering up something.

Our bill went from $300 a month to over $800 month and we ended up getting less then half of the traffic we received the following year.

    -42.18% yellowpages.com
    -35.89% yp.yahoo.com
    -42.71% local.yahoo
    -62.37% yahoo.com

AT&T Yellowpages.com does not do what they say they do.  Just be very careful if you have to do business with them.

I am paying 1731.00 a month in fear for my companies credit rating. I have made it my mission to tell every person in business to turn and run from any employee from AT&T or Yellowpages.com. By far the worst business mistake I ever have made.
I dont have enough room to say what I feel.
    BEWARE!!!

    Hi Patrick,
We are having the same problem at you have: My husband agreed to advertise with AT&T for one year. We got no hits on our ad. We sent them a return receipt notice of our intention to discontinue our ad, only because the said it had to be in writing. Now they are claiming we are obliged to continue for a second year. They say that he made a verbal agreement. We were led to believe that we would be getting a lot of business from this ad and so we scrimped and scraped to pay for it. Now after a year of no response we want to quite but they are saying we have to continue. How are they getting away with this? I am seeing postings from even 2007 with the same complaints is any one taking legal action against them?

In my opinion, AT&T yellow pages reps and managers should drop the facade and just start wearing ski masks and carrying guns.

Please let me know about any class action.  I've been screwed by ATT too.  They signed me up for advertising without disclosing the fees and now they said they may not be able to cancel the contract.
