AT&T YellowPages.com does what they want

Hello,

A warning for anyone that gets a telemarketing call from AT&T YellowPages.com. My wife and I own a small mom and popbusiness and my wife received a call and listened to the person go through their services, but when he gave my wife the pricing she told him that she would speak with me and he'd contact her the next day. When the next day came she told him no not now.

They proceeded to bill us and said that from part of the conversation they consider it an ok for the expensive but totally useless service. A billion dollar company screwing over a mom and pop. Know they are trying to sue us for failing to make any payments in a service which we did not want.

I guess billion dollar companies and their lawyers think it's ok to screw mom and pop stores and my guess is that the idiotic court system will probably side with them since the supposedly have a voice recording, but coincidently without the end section nor the day after part just cut down to what the contracted telemarketer (who no longer with them for some undisclosed reason) are using as the ok. I guess that since they can no loger use their marketing tactic on people now they have started on mom and pop's.

Was sold an ad campaign to the tune of $850 a month.  First few months, nothing happened; no phone calls.  One of the sales guys told me we had to give it some time to "ramp up"... Then tried to contact the Gen Mgr by email and phone and registered mail.  He was very scarce, could not seem to return my calls most of the time.  I ended up talking with 7 or 8 other ATT people over the course of 5 months-- none were helpful, and moreover they would pass me on to someone else.  The verbal promises the sales rep and the Gen Mgr made to me were just hot air.  No sales ever resulted from this $4250 little advertising excercise.  (They did credit me with one month of $850 because the account was performing so abysmally, to use the Gen Mgr's term, and I was finally able to opt out of the contract at the 6- month mark).

This was a waste of hard-earned money and many hours spent trying to communicate with these thieves.  I would strongly urge anyone to take a hard look at the contract or have an attorney check it out before signing.  It is a one-way contract, of, by and for AT&T and is mine was based on New York law.  So, to dispute it, I'd have to go to NY and get a NY lawyer, which would have been prohibitive.

This all began with a cold call. I wish I would have shown them the door, early on.  COH    cohoq@pcez.com

I am interested in hearing if anyone has started a class action suit? I have been advertising with AT&T Business Solutions. It has been the worse experience I have ever had in business. We are a small business that has been around for decades. We always advertise and always pay for what we get. About 6 months ago, we noticed that are ads on yellowpages.com were not showing up in the areas for which we had contracted and we also noted that we were not showing up with any search engines. We called the sales rep and then the regional manager. After a couple of weeks of no response, they called and said they could see that we were not showing up correctly in yellowpages.com and would apply for a credit. When we showed them the computer generated report of on-line seaches, it showed that they had not distributed our money over the month. Instead all of the clicks were used up in the first few days of each month and there was nothing available for the rest of the month. The customer care rep. spoke with us and agreed there was a problem. In addition we were paying for a mobile accesible ad for us and there was no indication at all that was ever initiated and in each interaction, they have completely ignored that. We stopped payment on our credit card and disputed the credit card charges. The charges were returned to us. However, only then did we hear from AT&T. They sent one letter ( and claimed it was the third attempt from them) and said that we needed to pay or it was going to collection. We sent them a clear outline of all of our attempts to contact them and resolve the problems as well as the documentation from the sales rep and customer care that confirmed the problem. Three times, they claimed that we never sent them anything and therefore that we did not have a valid claim.
Each time we emailed the documentation, we requested confirmation that they received it and recieved it. Even so, they claimed that they did not have information from us and sent it to a Collections Agency. We have had three calls with the collections agency who say there is nothing that they can do. And, in our last call to the AT&T claims department, they said they could not do anything since it had gone to collections.  So, we are frustrated, angry and this matter is taking way to long. Anyone have any suggestions????

First, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience.  I've worked with them for about 5 years, so maybe I can help.  Let me ask some questions.  Sounds like you have an ad running on yellowpages.com, and also a clicks package of some sort.  Know they number of clicks....30,40, 90, 120?  They are supposed to be spread out.  They shouldn't be being used up at the front end of a month.  Also, when you say not showing up in the areas you contracted, I assume you mean headings?  Like Beauty Shop, Tree Service, Attorneys?  You might mean cities, because your program should be designed for local search.  It's important you also are in the right city and area, not just the correct heading.  Do you also have an ad in the directory....the print yellow pages?  That's harder to deal with because they can't pull that ad out of the book.  Even if it's their fault, they kind of push more for that than an internet issue they can correct.  Knowing more about your ads and your city would help me tell you what regional person might be able to fix the issue.

Today I will file a paper with the court in Orange County showing that ATT overcharged its Yellow Pages Customers in California $193,965,075.64 principal and interest. If you have been a yellow pages advertiser contact me.

I am currently involved in a litigation case with AT&T Advertising Solutions in California. They have been overcharging me for years and I am interested to know if you have an attorney representing you.

My family has done business with At&t for almost 30 years but no more. We signed up last year for YP.com in addition to our book ads which got little or no results for the $3000.00 we spent so we attempted to cancel our ads. Our sales agent agreed to forward new contracts for a basic listing in one book but he lied, never sent the agreement, and re instituted last years ad campaign which we have refused to pay for.  Lucky for us they misprinted our listings information and placed us in the wrong books under the wrong listing headers. This is our 6th week attempting to resolve the issue with At&t and I hope we can end the relationship without spending any more money. Meanwhile they continue to try and bill us for services we never agreed to.

Well Ady Wright is at her games again. She is trying to renew the December yellow pages ad in May. What I have done is change all my ads to small 1" ads and my advertising went from 3000.00 to about 1600.00 per month.

Our issue is much like all of the other complaints, except for one little twist. I received an invoice for $498.99 for services we never agreed to nor received. When I called and asked Yellow Pages who they spoke with that authorized the services and subsequent billing, they said that they spoke with my receptionist and when asked if we wanted to "renew" the listing, my receptionist said no (after asking me).............. the catch, they asked is "wether we wanted to "RENEW" the services" which we never had, but apparently they think by us answering "NO" to this question, it meant that we acknowledged that we did have a service agreement...........
To say the least, I made it very clear that if they pursue the "FALSE invoice" any further I will pursue litigation..............

AT&T automatically renewed our contract even though I told the sales person I would not renew unless the bill was cut in half.  I told him we would need to meet to set up proofs since our business form changed to an LLC.   He never responded.  I received a bill several months later that I never expected, especially since I was 5 months behind on the bill the prior year.  I can't pay this bill.   We are a small business that is barely existing.  An attorney is threatening us with all of the usual.   In Washington where we are originally from, this type of contract was illegal when we were in business there.

We too would be happy to be part of the class action law suit.  Business is closed and they keep billing, no response to letters.  Next step is double registered mail.  Nasty business practices this company has!

Person called to update info.  I told her twice the location she was updating was closed.  She informed me I was rude and said goodbye.  I wasn't rude at all.  I can't help stupidity.  They need to start checking  before they call businesses because we have more important things to do than keep on giving them  info that they never seem to get correct anyway.

We have been harassed with phone calls from yellowpages.com for advertising that we have never authorized and repeatedly refused.  This time they said in order to be taken off their site, we would have to pay $500+ in charges.  When asked what the charges were for, he told me they were for advertising on yellowpages.com.  When I told him we never authorized advertising with them and have always declined, he repeated that we owed this money.  I have been harassed by this company many times - sometimes several times a day!  The next time a local rep comes into the office, I'm am going to make sure they know what is going on.  It is quite possible some of these calls are scams hoping to cash in on unsuspecting companies.
