AT&T YellowPages.com does what they want

Complaint

Hello,

A warning for anyone that gets a telemarketing call from AT&T YellowPages.com. My wife and I own a small mom and popbusiness and my wife received a call and listened to the person go through their services, but when he gave my wife the pricing she told him that she would speak with me and he'd contact her the next day. When the next day came she told him no not now.

They proceeded to bill us and said that from part of the conversation they consider it an ok for the expensive but totally useless service. A billion dollar company screwing over a mom and pop. Know they are trying to sue us for failing to make any payments in a service which we did not want.

I guess billion dollar companies and their lawyers think it's ok to screw mom and pop stores and my guess is that the idiotic court system will probably side with them since the supposedly have a voice recording, but coincidently without the end section nor the day after part just cut down to what the contracted telemarketer (who no longer with them for some undisclosed reason) are using as the ok. I guess that since they can no loger use their marketing tactic on people now they have started on mom and pop's.

We have advertised in the yellow pages for over 40 years. This year I asked our representative Gwen Axelrod how I could place my ad in front of a competitors larger ad. She replied that by buying a larger ad we would move in front of them and the size she advocated was basically a full page ad.
We signed for it and when the book came out in Dec 10 our competitor was on the very 1st page with a dinky ad. and we were on the 2nd page of the section. When I hit the roof she referred me to Mike Larson who was supposed to call me the 1st week of Jan 11. He tried to sell me some internet web sites and more advertising instead of solving the problem. He suggested I file a complaint with Customer service. Customer service said they had my signatures saying I would pay for the ad so tough crap. They suggested I speak to Gwen Axelrod the lying sales manager that sold me the ad in the 1st place. She spoke to me once and told me she was not the Queen Bee but she would have the queen bee call me. Since that conversation she has been ducking my calls and refuses to contact me.
The Queen Bee turns out to be a person named Janine Lappin and she can't seem to find a spare minute in her busy schedule to call me.

These people are lairs and  should not be believed under any circumstances.

Contact me problems with At&T advertising too. They actually had a click thru ad that brought up a competitors ad for 6 months of our contract.  931-624-9250

I own a small business and they signed me up for one free year. I never received any paperwork. I knew the Rep who left the company that same year. I was never told about any automatic renewal. It's been 2 years and in Jaunuary they've started harassing me. After the free year I received a few calls which I ignored because I gained no benefit from the ad. So I had no reason to renew it. I work nights for my business and they called in the morning. They automatically renewed my account without my consent. I was never even given any pricing for the ad and I never even received a telephone book on top of it. They keep calling and harassing me. I have just ignored the calls but will be checking my credit. If I find it on my report I will file a class action lawsuit. Not once in the three phone calls they made to renew did they ever say it was going to automatically renew itself. Sounds like this is typical from all these complaints. Watchout At&t I'm coming for ya.

I quit this position because of the unethical practice of the company. I was in the department and I had one advertiser that told me he knew his rep and his rep forged his name to the contract and he never signed the contract. I explained this to my manager and she said try to collect from him anyway. ?. Really!!! Not long I quit because at the end of the day I have to sleep at night and NO amount of money is worth my soul. I refuse to lie to people to collect money for the company. I filed a formal complaint to the company as well. If you want to cancel or send your letter to cancel please email it to customercare@yellowpages.com

Was sold an ad campaign to the tune of $850 a month.  First few months, nothing happened; no phone calls.  One of the sales guys told me we had to give it some time to "ramp up"... Then tried to contact the Gen Mgr by email and phone and registered mail.  He was very scarce, could not seem to return my calls most of the time.  I ended up talking with 7 or 8 other ATT people over the course of 5 months-- none were helpful, and moreover they would pass me on to someone else.  The verbal promises the sales rep and the Gen Mgr made to me were just hot air.  No sales ever resulted from this $4250 little advertising excercise.  (They did credit me with one month of $850 because the account was performing so abysmally, to use the Gen Mgr's term, and I was finally able to opt out of the contract at the 6- month mark).

This was a waste of hard-earned money and many hours spent trying to communicate with these thieves.  I would strongly urge anyone to take a hard look at the contract or have an attorney check it out before signing.  It is a one-way contract, of, by and for AT&T and is mine was based on New York law.  So, to dispute it, I'd have to go to NY and get a NY lawyer, which would have been prohibitive.

This all began with a cold call. I wish I would have shown them the door, early on.  COH    cohoq@pcez.com

I am interested in hearing if anyone has started a class action suit? I have been advertising with AT&T Business Solutions. It has been the worse experience I have ever had in business. We are a small business that has been around for decades. We always advertise and always pay for what we get. About 6 months ago, we noticed that are ads on yellowpages.com were not showing up in the areas for which we had contracted and we also noted that we were not showing up with any search engines. We called the sales rep and then the regional manager. After a couple of weeks of no response, they called and said they could see that we were not showing up correctly in yellowpages.com and would apply for a credit. When we showed them the computer generated report of on-line seaches, it showed that they had not distributed our money over the month. Instead all of the clicks were used up in the first few days of each month and there was nothing available for the rest of the month. The customer care rep. spoke with us and agreed there was a problem. In addition we were paying for a mobile accesible ad for us and there was no indication at all that was ever initiated and in each interaction, they have completely ignored that. We stopped payment on our credit card and disputed the credit card charges. The charges were returned to us. However, only then did we hear from AT&T. They sent one letter ( and claimed it was the third attempt from them) and said that we needed to pay or it was going to collection. We sent them a clear outline of all of our attempts to contact them and resolve the problems as well as the documentation from the sales rep and customer care that confirmed the problem. Three times, they claimed that we never sent them anything and therefore that we did not have a valid claim.
Each time we emailed the documentation, we requested confirmation that they received it and recieved it. Even so, they claimed that they did not have information from us and sent it to a Collections Agency. We have had three calls with the collections agency who say there is nothing that they can do. And, in our last call to the AT&T claims department, they said they could not do anything since it had gone to collections.  So, we are frustrated, angry and this matter is taking way to long. Anyone have any suggestions????

First, I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience.  I've worked with them for about 5 years, so maybe I can help.  Let me ask some questions.  Sounds like you have an ad running on yellowpages.com, and also a clicks package of some sort.  Know they number of clicks....30,40, 90, 120?  They are supposed to be spread out.  They shouldn't be being used up at the front end of a month.  Also, when you say not showing up in the areas you contracted, I assume you mean headings?  Like Beauty Shop, Tree Service, Attorneys?  You might mean cities, because your program should be designed for local search.  It's important you also are in the right city and area, not just the correct heading.  Do you also have an ad in the directory....the print yellow pages?  That's harder to deal with because they can't pull that ad out of the book.  Even if it's their fault, they kind of push more for that than an internet issue they can correct.  Knowing more about your ads and your city would help me tell you what regional person might be able to fix the issue.
