Will make this short and sweet, I hope.
Bought a timeshre in 2006, havent been able to use it as husband works away. We were shown a resort we were told we could use as we didnt like the one we were buying into. So.... we try and use it two years later, and find out that they want us to pay $410 a  night per person ontop of the $10,000USD we have paid to stay anywhere. They dispute they showed us this resort, they dispute they didnt tell us we had to pay more once they admitted we were shown the resort. And so the saga goes on. We have been told we can have 2 free weeks there, which will come to the equivalent of the price we paid originally. Why would we want to do that, it doesnt solve the problem of having to pay more if we want a holiday there. Now we wait as we want out of this whole sorry mess. It leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. Husband is retiring this month and we thought we would be able to use our RCI membership without doubt as we bought into the higher levels of timeshare. Tried to find a place to go before February 2009, we have been told there is nothing on our side of the world. So we cant use the Royal Bali Club we cant use RCI. Well we can if we forever pay more, what was the point of paying into something we thought we would have for life and no more expense apart from air travel.
So people out there, beware Royal Bali Club and RCI. The directors and President must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Alhamdulillah, ternyata saya masih dilindungi tuhan,

Hi there.  We are in the same boat having just returned this weekend from Bali after signing a contract with Royal Bali last week.  We now wish to cancel the membership. Just wondering what feedback you received from your lawyer.  We'd be very grateful if you could let us know please as we're considering going down the same route.

My husband and I just returned this weekend from Bali and like you, are very concerned about the decision we made to sign a contract as we now realise the product is not for us.  Did you get your deposit back and if so, how?  I would be very grateful if you could let me know please because we are feeling pretty anxious.

    Little one
I have recently fallen victim to this too we payed a $7000 deposit and have recently arrived home to my patner loosing his job and a big regret with signing up to such a big commitment. I have contacted the karma royal team they have offered me a down grade of the membership but insists that I cannot exit I am furious after being conned into such a situation as I had found out my house back I australia had been robbed they continued to sign papers under the state I was in. Now thousands of dollors out of pocket and no remorse felt from the karma royal group. I have no idea what to do. Can anyone please help. ?

My husband and I are in exactly the same position having just returned from Bali this weekend.  We got next to no sleep throughout our holiday (after signing contract) and are getting even less now that we have returned to Australia as we are both feeling very stressed and not really sure where to turn for good advice.  Can you let me know whether you have been able to resolve your situation and how please?

my wife and I attended a so called presentation last Saturday in Bali and straight away I did not like what was happening. We did not join and told the people at the beginning we did not buy on impulse so would not be joining and also the same when we terminated the meeting. Stick to this rule of thumb and you won't get conned.

Hey all, thought I would add my 2 cents worth. I have been in the same position as many people in this forum- Bali, scratch card, free holiday, presentation for 3 or so hours.
First of all, I would make the point of saying that it is not a scam- my definition of a scam would be that they take your money and you never hear from them again. You are actually buying a product, for want of a better word. It may not suit everyone (it didn't suit me either) but some people would find it perfect for them. To me a scam suggests criminal activity, and I do not believe this company to be working outside the law.
The second thing I would say is that in all my dealings with the Seminyak and Jimbaran offices, I found them to be very open and reasonable with any issues I had following my signing up.
I understand that some people have been refused a cancellation, and I cannot make comment in those situations, however I will say that communication with the company in the first instance was the best approach for us.
Yes they are salesman, and pretty effective ones at that, however I would advise that you speak with your salesperson and/or email the address given to you- I did, and they were pretty responsive. Yes, websites like this can be a very powerful tool for naming and shaming companies that have acted unlawfully (if they have acted unlawfully) but I believe the best approach is to contact Karma Royal first.
Before anyone else comments, I am in no way affiliated with the company- I responded to the invitation from the street hawker much like most other people on here

      Hi Chris,

My husband and I returned from Bali on the weekend and are deeply regretting our decision to "sign up" because we handed over our life savings.  You do not make it clear whether you actually signed a contract and then were successful in having it revoked.  I would be very grateful if you could let me know please whether this was the case because it would be very reassuring for us to know that this is achievable. We're not suggesting any illegal activity either, we just want to retrieve our money as we realise now that this product is not for us!

My wife and I have been a member of Royal/Karma resort for a few years now. We have never had a problem and have stayed in several of their resorts and hugely discounted prices as well as using our free weeks. The customer service from the Royal/Karma office has always been great. If you don't use it (Don't travel regularly) then you are wasting your time and money, however we would be close to getting our money back by using their resorts and the associate resorts they can book worldwide. During the sales pitch you can walk out at any time, just ignore the [***] they will do, keep walking and get your own taxi. To me, the product is genuine, but the sales methods are not representative of the product they offer.
However this is my view only and I can see that a lot of others have not shared the view.

    Not so happy Aussie
My wife and I fell for this sales marketing while holidaying in Bali 5 years ago. I don't think it's a scam as full utilisation of the offers is great value if you have the time and money to pursue them, travel is expensive but time off is even harder to get, so we haven't utilised it. The fact the yearly management fees keep going up is my big bug bear. We always pay up but I'm thinking that on a legal footing they couldn't chase you down as the contracts are signed in Indonesia, therefore not enforceable in Australia and many other countries, but if they tried it would not be hard to get witnesses to testify to the fraud in the sales pitch i.e. promise everything and make it sound like your actually buying a share in the building you tour on the day. The down side is you would never get your initial $20K back as far as I can see. Ask them why they don't let you meet and sign up in Australia, you won't get an answer.
