They all lie.
When I register Bally, I ask can I cancel anytime. He told me I can cancel in 60 days. After 25 days later I went to cancel guy told me my membership canceled. A month later, I got a bill I went office back the guy told me he will told with office about my cancelation. A month later another bill came. I call customer service they told me I am not cancel and 60 days pass. I can't cancel now. After 1 hour discussion with customer service they told me I cannot do anything if I don't pay it will be destroyer my credit history.

    I used the Contact Us e-mail - and received an automated e-mail back in seconds...but only minutes later I received back an e-mail confirming cancellation, and also confirming that the elec. billing payment program has been cancelled as well.  It even gave me the date 28 days later that I can continue using the club until (I had to cxl with 28 days notice)...  

    It did give me other options (transferring membership) and putting it on hold for $4 a month...  

    If I had know it was going to be so easy, I would have spared myself frustrating, blood pressure raising phone calls with people only trained to prevent me from canceling.  I used some similar wording to megan's post above.

    The good thing is that I have it in writing - and should my cc be charged, I have documentation to fight it.

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!  I Have gone from calling my local Ballys to cancel a few times, the staff there is not all the helpful..the first time they told i have to call the main office, so I did. Then they said I had to be paid off before they could cancel me.  Mind you
    I thought I didn't owe anything...they said I still owed... but I paid what they said I owed...the next time I called just to make sure my payment was received and accounted for....well then
    they gave me a different amount owed (more)which I paid.  They again told me to call the main office and I did...couldn't get a real person for what I wanted..so I had to push any button to be able to get someone.  The guy asked me a few times why I wanted to cancel...whatever!  I said my bill for my agreement was paid in full for the remaining months (until September)  he said yes, but you are actually paid off until October so I asked can they send me refund for the October payment...he kept double talking ...bottom
    line no I am not getting a refund...at this point I don't care as long as the Cancellation Letter works!!!  Very BAD customer Service..

    my contract had was to be cancelled with bally because of a health issue...my cancellation was accepted...got letter from ballys with summary and amount owing to me and i should allow 15-10 days for the refund check this is from DEC 2010.  JAN of 2011 i got a lettter from BALLY but instead of refund check i got a duplicate of letter sent in DEC 2010.  i informed BALLY about this by email and was sent an email that letter was mistakenly sent ...i was told another check was requested to be sent to me...up to date i havent received nothing.  I have been sending emails fron FEB of 2011 about my refund check and each time all i getting is my email has been fowarded to the whatever dept and theyll get intouch with me within 5-10days... Now i need someone to tell me why my check has not been sent to me and why am i getting a run around and my emails been ingnored.  I tried reaching by phone and when prompted to out membership# its cancelled. I couldnt have owed BALLYS a penny.  I am just realizing after reading all the complaints about BALLYS how low and degrading the character of BALLY is....BALLY its a crying shame and disgrace on u...u cancell my membership and yet u refuse to send my own money back to me....how disgusting....

    Go go go..a tooth for a tooth.. You have to complain them to a consumer Protection Agency so they will stop this kind of abuse to their customers..

    I called the # above and navigated my way through the automated system using the "make a payment" track. When I got a human and said I wanted to cancel and I wanted to do it over the phone and receive confirmation via email.  I had to pressure a little, but she did it and I waited with her on the phone until I had an email that stated my account was cancelled and my credit crad would no longer be charged.

    I have an email now  with a cancellation confirmation # attached.

    i really disappointed with bally!!!!!!! they really sucks! they even charged me cancellation fee which is $25 dollar and when i called back to help my boy friend cancel the membership , and the guy gave me a address to cancel  n he said they will not charge money for cancellation! screw them!

    Whatever you do never sign up with Bally's Total Fitness they scam all thier consumers. They have horrible customer service, when talking to them they speak as though you owe them your life. They don't consider the cunsumer not even once. I cancelled an account with them durning their no questions asked trial period keep getting back and forth answers between the club and the 1800 number. All lies... They are hungry for people money that is all!
    Noone helps the consumer but they sure know how to screw the consumer.
    I hope Bally's go out of business for the sake of consumers that have been screwed over.

    I did as Kristina stated - I must say that her information on how to navigate the phone menu to reach a human being at Ballys was incredible. I had tried so many times and given up. Kristina, I know that you posted this info last year, but thank you anyway. The only difference is that the Bally rep told me to send the letter attention: Bally Fitness Cancellation Dept, which is a bit different that what Kristina posted. Thanks to her, mvt and others that have provided great advice, incl. the advice to send letter with maximum receipt confirmations, postmarks, etc. Hopefullly will have chance to let you  know how it all goes.

    I register for membership, at that month I check my credit card statement, they charge 2 times for the first month, after half year, I want to cancel it, they just keep reduce the monthly fee to keep me stay, finnally, I send my cancel letter to the department 10 day ago, but I still didn't receive any respone form the department, hope soon!

    First of all i would like to say thanks to all of those who posted on here to let others know how to get out of bally s.
    second of all i would like to say how ridiculous it is of bally's to have us send a letter to cancel and make us go through so much just to get out of our membership even after out contract has ended.
    Third of all anyone who has experienced this should tell everyone they know about this problem of having to go through so much to cancel so that way they get this fixed or get less business.
    Fourth of all i am currently ending my membership and i am now in the process of sending the letter to cancel.

    I Luisa Yvonne Morales am stating that I want my gym membership canceled. I will no longer have you charging my bank card for my membership, or my friend Kisha Castro.  You can no longer charge my bank card without my permission.  My account number is . Since you are also charging me monthly for my friends account on my debit card we are canceling that as well.  My friends name is Kisha Castro.  The account number is .  So from here on out If you charge my card again for either account I will take your company to court.  I have a copy of this letter and I have copies of the chat conversation.  I gave the copies to my attorney as well.  This is a very stupid way to handle cancelation.  Very time consuming.  I have a job, a sick mother and a wedding to plan.  I asked for my account to be frozen at an earlier time and they still charged my Debit card for Kisha Castro’s account, which my bank can have you in trouble for. Her name is obviously not my name.   I will be posting on line how unreasonable and repulsive your service is and how rude you staff is on the customer chat.  This is no way to treat anyone.  I am not alone, go to complaintwire.com.

    So what BALLYS TOTAL RIP OFF did to me was that when i signed up they never told me that their was a yearly fee of $30 dollars. the thing is that i signed up for me and 3 other peopleso i got charged $120.00 plus my every two week payment so in total it was $160.00 so i went on and called because i had already cancelled for 2 of the accounts. the person that answered was very rude she pretty much said too bad for u! and dat she couldnt do anything about it i asked why if i had cancelled she said it didnt show up. i asked her to understand that i was payin $60 dollar extra and she said nope there's nothing i can do u have to send a letter i asked her if she can atleast provide me with the membership id and she said in order for me to obtain that it i was gonna have to pay $20 dollars more, ofcourse i said no then i asked her if i can talk to someone that might be able to help me and she refused to pass me to anyone, to give me her name and, supervisors name. At the end she said to give her a minute and she never came back. she hung up!. so i called back and another rude person answered just telling me to send the letter exept this time he actually gave me the member numbers... omg im soo mad they should hire people that actually provide good custumer service, and  hopefully wen i send this letter everything ends. good luck to everyone on their case.
