They all lie.
When I register Bally, I ask can I cancel anytime. He told me I can cancel in 60 days. After 25 days later I went to cancel guy told me my membership canceled. A month later, I got a bill I went office back the guy told me he will told with office about my cancelation. A month later another bill came. I call customer service they told me I am not cancel and 60 days pass. I can't cancel now. After 1 hour discussion with customer service they told me I cannot do anything if I don't pay it will be destroyer my credit history.

    They just want youre money and when you want to cancel, they dont hear you!! Just like i paid up front i should be able to go in and cancel not send some letter. I advise No one to get a membership their.

    I just cancelled my membership over the phone using this number (866) 402-2559.

    After you get to the customer rep, tell them you want to cancel the membership and over the phone they will charge you a 10 dollar over phone cancellation fee but its done RIGHT AWAY. ALTHOUGH I HAVE HAVING TO PAY THIS BAD COMPANY ANY EXTRA MONEY the mail takes too long and i won't even know how long it might take to cancel my membership.

    P.S.
    THE customer REP will keep telling you they have never allow phone cancellation before its all bogus and lies. they lie constantly to try to make you send the CANCELLATION MAIL.

    Have you got a confirmation # for the cancellation. I called and a rep told me that he has taken care of this for me, but when I asked him for a confirmation #, he told me there's no confirmation #, but he would send me an email to confirm the cancellation, so far I haven't got his email. Should I trust them? Or I need to mail a letter for the cancellation?

    Some investigating agent should sneek into ballys and apply for membership. He will be so surprised to find how they lie to you and hide this 3 years commitment and eventually coax you into signing the contract. WHT a f**** way of ripping people off. If ripping people off is their only policy, they should shut down their gyms and start robbing people houses, They will probably make more money from that. Shame on you Ballys

    We sent two certified letters.  They did not respond.  They are still charging us.  I find out today they transferred our membership to LA Fitness.  

    I guess that means that LA Fitness is another place that I will never go to.

    They are all big crooks. I had sent a certified mail in September to the Washington DC cancellation dept. asking them to cancel my membership. Later I got confirmation from post office that the letter has been received at the address. But even then i was charged for the month of october, november and december. When i called them they said they never recieved any mail i send{mind u it was a certified mail). Finally I had to call them at DC and asked them to email me a confirmation of the cancellation. I lost 100 dollars for the month of october, november and december. But atleast now i have a confirmed email from them of cancellation and hopefully they wont charge me again. Good ridance to the bad rubbish. I wonder why they dont have a provision to cancell membership at the local branches. it is one good way of stealing the money from members account i believe. BEWARE OF THESE CROOKS

    try 8883485005. thats the number i tried calling to cancel my membership..they are big crooks. do not end the conversation on the phone with the rep untill u get an email confirmation that membership has been cancelled

    A WARNING HERE GUYS!!!!

    I cancels 2 of my memberships on november 14th, and i stopped getting charged for a while but a few weeks later around december 16th they started charging my account again. I called CUSTOMER SERVICES and told them why am i getting charged even after i cancels it; they told me the that the CANCELLATION WAS INCOMPLETE AND THAT THE PHONE CALL WAS DISCONNECTED!! That was a total lie and i demanded them to check the phone records which then the customer rep got scared and refunded my money + re-cancel both memberships.

    This company will try its best to reactivate your accounts and steal your money; what i did and recommend to everyone is after you cancel if possible just changed your credit/debit card information so they cant get to you anymore.

    Bally's fitness customer service sucks 2011. PLEASE DON'T APPLY TO THIS GYM! The above responses are true they give you a lot of running around to cancel your membership.

    I am a member at Bally in Lake Grove NY
    bought this back in 1989, this club is a joke along with Bally in
    General...  went there the other day, now it's LA Fitness
    and my membership card is no longer valid? Called bally and they switch
    you over to an automated message that says the account is being serviced by LA fitness..  call LA fitness and they have no record of the account...

    Help me....
