I purchased a ceiling fan and installed per the manufacturers directions. The fan stopped turning after two months of operation. When I called Hampton's customer service they told me sounded like a capacitor problem. They told me they would mail me the part with instructions on how to repair. The part came with no instructions and when I called back the technical rep displayed the rudest behavior that I have ever encountered. I finally informed him to just mail the instructions and I would figure it out. When I opened the fan to repair the capacitor I witnessed a bubble of grey matter which had oozed out of the capacitor. After a week I'm still waiting for the instructions to arrive in the mail. DON'T BUY HAMPTON BAY FANS!

I installed a hampton bay fan a week ago . It worked fine for the first couple of days but then the light on the bottom started cycling through its dimming feature over and over and would not stop. So I took it back to home depot and they replaced it . I installed the new fan and it started doing the same thing right off of the bat.I changed the code on the remote and fan , it worked for about 10 minuites and started doing it again. If anyone can help advise me on what to do to fix the problem I would appreciate it.

I purchased a new ceiling fan with light last year. Also bought the remote. There is no other way to turn the fan or lights on or off than to use the remote. Well, now a year later the remote does not work. The fan and lights are off and we are unable to turn them on. I looked in the book we received with the ceiling fan for a phone number to contact the company to get a new remote. I also looked on the warranty paper, however, there is no phone number or website information. I then called the Home Depot customer service. The man at Home Depot instructed me to go in and BUY a new remote. I told the man that I don't feel as though I should have to BUY a new remote because the fan supposedly has a lifetime warranty. I then came on the internet to see if I could get a web site for Hampton Bay and the only web sites they have are for retailers who want to sell the Hampton Bay products and the equipment needed to fix the products.

What is this? Why give a warranty if there is no way to contact the manufacturer. I am extremely upset with the fan and the way I have been dismissed by those who should be able to help. Why should I have to BUY a new remote? Am I going to have to do this every year. I think there should be a way to contact the company for customer service and product defects. I am frustrated and I would like some answers

The bulb socket size is called an E17.  It's smaller than the E12 base bulbs commonly found in the USA.  You can buy adapters for $3 that go from the odd E17 to the more common E12.

My Hampton Bay ceiling fan with 4 lights will not allow me to replace one of the burned out lights.  The receptacle part of one is corroded.  Can I just buy the lights section as a replacement or do I have to buy a whole new fan?  I would appreciate your promptnes in replying.  Thanks.

Just bought a Hampton Bay Altura from Home Depot. I set it up and it ran for 30 seconds before randomly turning off and It only runs on low speed now. I called the Hampton Bay customer service and they said it is a bad capacitor. I need to fax in a receipt and will send a new one out. Nothing but a nightmare. I have no problem returning the whole thing and buying another brand and another retail chain.

I have two Hampton Bay ceiling fans.  Both purchased and installed the same day about 8 years ago.  I installed them myself with no knowledge of wiring.  Each one took about 10 minutes.  The hardest part was getting the brace into the ceiling.  They both use ordinary ligh bulb bases.  Both have run flawlessly since installation.  Every manuafactures has it's share of problems.  The people posting here are in that 99th percentile that got the bum product.  I challenge you to find a fan that is NOT made in China.  That's just the way it goes, folks.  Hampton Bay is not better or worse than any others.  That said, I will go into one of my rooms with the fan and enjoy it now.  Have a nice day.

They also make a screws in the way that can cause the blade to fall of not tightened often and make the chain weak and people can easily break them off.

    DO NOT BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Service number that I used for Hampton Bay Ceiling fan that I purchased July 2010. The lights on the fan just stop working and the receiver started to smell like burnt rubber. We took it down to look at it and the casing was starting to melt. I called their customer service line at 1-877-902-5588. So far, it all looks good, and told me they would send me a new part in the next couple weeks, seeing as I am in Canada and their head office is in California. Let's see what happens! Will keep you all posted.

    Hello!

I just wanted to write a little of information about Hampton Bay ceiling fans, they are not the best fan you can buy but they do the work. Hampton Bay makes three type of fan: #1 the pull chain fan (no receiver and remote installed) this fan are usually the best choice because they do not have a receiver install and you are able to install wall mount speed control or dimmer switch. You also have the option to install a receiver and remote on this fan just make sure that you use the regular bulbs no CFL light bulbs it will cause the receiver to burn and lights will flicker. If your fan just stop turning but the light still turn on do no panic is not the motor, it's your capacitor, this part is usually located in ur switch housing. Capacitor controls the speed of your fan it's what makes ur fan turn. Motor hardly ever go out!
Second type of fan is ceiling fan with a detach receiver (receiver install on the canopy assembly) the downer about fans that come with a receiver and no pull chain is that there is no other way to control the fan but with the remote. The receiver is what controls your fan ppl when your fan is not turning on, light not turning on, lights are turning on by them self, etc bypass your receiver because that is most likely the problem. If you call the manufacturer they are going to ask you to do this as well. Bypassing receiver means to remove the receiver and direct wiring your fan to your wire coming from your ceiling. If your fan turns on and light then obviously you have a problem with the receiver and the manufacturer will replace it. Also do not install dimmer switches, speed control when you have a receiver install on a fan you will cause a fire sooner or later trust me!!! Read your manual it is stated not to. Also if you have an on and off switch make sure you keep it on the off position when turning off your fan.

Third type of Hampton Bay ceiling fan (fan with a built in receiver)

Receiver is on top of your motor and has a capacitor built in it. Basically you cannot bypass this receiver because you have the capacitor built in to it so in other words your fan will not operate without it. If your fan just stop working, lights work but fan does not, or any problem you fan is giving you is going to be your receiver. Call your the manufacturer and they will send you a replacement. Also you cannot install wall dimmer switch or speed control for this type of fan you will

Do you know what kind of receiver is in a Hampton bay Antiqua fan from HD.  I believe the capacitor just burned out for the second time.   I have it connected to the outlet with a speed and dimmer combo switch. Thank you

I cannot find replacement bulbs for my Hampton Bay fan either.  What a pain.  I tried the "candelabra" size base and the "medium" base, neither of which works.  I will try the Feit bulbs mentioned by the Home Depot guy.  Of course, they are not available online so I have to drive there and hope they have them.  If I had known I never would have bought this fan.  It works fine but I don't need this hassle every time a bulb burns out. If I had to do it again I would be careful to buy one that takes standard size bulbs.  What a joke.
